We had a fun time on our recent Melbourne by Foot Beer Lovers Guide walking tour. Our guide Jordan was friendly and informative and we had fun mixing with the other people on the tour. I'm not a beer drinker but there were cider and wine options and the tour finished with a meal. This is a fun way to... More

We loved our walk with Chris around some of Melbourne's well know and lesser know features. The range of stories relating to our history, cultural changes (e.g. the introduction of coffee houses during the temperance era), architecture (old and new), laneways, artwork, Melbourne’s nightlife (including uncovering some of our hidden bars and restaurants), made this a really interesting walk. I'd... More

This provided a good introduction to the area, which was useful given that this was our first visit to the city. The guide has his script which is interesting and occasionally funny. He is less good when asked questions that deviate from his routine. All in all, a good experience.

Walking with a group of 7 was ideal and Chris's insights into the history and culture (old and new) of Melbourne were are revelation - lived in Melbourne for a little while and visited many times - the length of the tour, both in distance covered, time taken and subjects covered was about perfect

Had a rainy Thursday but that didn't dampen our host Chris's spirits. A fantastic experience learning a lot about Melbourne and going to places/locations that I would never have had experienced. Highly recommended and a great thing to do early in your stay if you are in Melbourne for a few days. Restaurant and bar tips for the remainder of... More

Excellent 3 hour tour of central Melbourne. Guide was a native of Melbourne and was knowledgeable about history, architecture and culture. He included all of the important sites and told interesting stories. Got a real good feel for the city.

I can't recommend this highly enough. I booked online this morning - very easily - and a few hours later was having a brilliant guided tour with Chris. I learnt loads about art, architecture, history, music, development planning, coffee, transport and much more. This an absolutely must-do for anyone visiting Melbourne. Thank you so much Melbourne by Foot.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
