We did this as an intro to Melbourne when we arrived. The tour guide was really personable and had a wealth of knowledge about the city -both past and present. He helped us learn to navigate the numerous alleys or lanes and arcades, explained the history of the street art and even got us all a cup of fantastic coffee.... More

This was a wonderfully engaging tour. Chris took our group of six to many interesting places such as laneways, bars, historical buildings, and public art. Most of these attractions we would not have otherwise known to visit. Chris (who is a local) constantly provided us with interesting details and his enthusiasm and good humour was most appreciated! I'd recommend this... More

Four guys were part of a history lesson through the laneways of the Melbourne City, tasting 4 different beers and a burger meal to finish. Jake was a very knowledgeable guide. Worth the experience.

With little time in Melbourne, only three days, we needed someone to show us the interesting heart of this vibrant city. Dave was a very knowledgeable, urbane and friendly guide who's enthusiasm for the city rubbed off on his small tour group. We particularly liked visiting the lane-ways within the CBD, cafes, bars and incredible urban art. Melbourne must be... More

Our female guide (she was fabulous and can't recall name at moment) made city come alive for us, with it's history and so many sites we would never have known of - best activity we did here.

Really enjoyed this walking tour. Chris definitely brought us to streets/lanes we would not have found on our own. His love of this city, knowledge of it''s history and great sense of humor made for a very pleasant day. Thank you Chris!

The trip takes you through the central Melbourne district and gives you a wonderful perspective of the history of the city. It takes you to little streets where you would not go on your own until you get to know about them. It also takes you to some very impressive and historic buildings which are real works of art. Highly recommend the tour and a must when you first arrive in Melbourne as you will get an understanding of the past & present. I am a local and our interstate visitor was going, thought I would tag along not realising that it would be so enjoyable. Excellent value for money.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
