Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Established in 1994, the Centre's heritage building is the sole remaining tower of the former Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital.
Built in 1848 as the original Melbourne Hospital, from 1946 the building now known as the Queen Victoria Women's Centre was the premises of the Queen Victoria Hospital, which was one of three hospitals in the world founded, managed and staffed by women.
The Centre's beautiful building is home to a range of women's organisations and offers venues for hire and free exhibitions in our Women's Gallery that enable the public to share and support this vibrant place for the women of our community.
The Queen Victoria Women's Centre offers 3 venue spaces in the beautiful setting of a heritage building.

This impressive tower is all that remains of the Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital. Until the Hospital was partially demolished to form the Queen Victoria shopping center, it was for many years the main hospital for women in Victoria. The hospital was founded, staffed and managed by women. The remaining tower has now been converted into office space for community organizations that involve women. This heritage building has special historic significance for the women of Melbourne.

One of the earliest hospitals was here, later replaced by the Queen Victoria Hospital, built and paid for and operated for the women of Victoria. It is surrounded by the shopping centre of the same name. The remnants of the old building are used as a community centre.
