Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

With lawns by the river, plus seating, picnic tables, and BBQs, this is a useful park for the city workers. There are also public toilets on Spencer Street, next to the tram stop. Not a lot of shelter except under the railway viaduct.

John Batman (1801-1839) famously declared "This is the place for a village." That place became the City of Melbourne. Batman was a man of many talents; it is a pity that he did not see did see Melbourne mature into a great city. This park is a small piece of land on the north bank of the Yarra River; it was recovered from an old freight yard; it is bounded by Spencer Street, King St and Flinders St. Batman Park has a BBQ and tables, it's a good place for a picnic.

A relatively small patch of green space by the river, Batman Park was the home of pigeons and seagulls this morning as I walked through. There are a few benches along the path and a BBQ spot towards the eastern end.

Green space in the city is so important and this is a fabulous piece of green space, opposite side of the Yarra River to the busy Casino area... here is somewhere you can take your shoes off and just be in touch with the earth... to 'ground' so to speak.

However, that is not what I did recently because it was at night and it was cold...but I appreciated the contrast of the park to the cityscape behind it... from here you will get amazing city views.

The park was established in 1982 through the conversion of a disused freight train rail yard and was named after one of the founders of Melbourne. I love that the land was reclaimed and that there is now an option to enjoy a grassy area and sit under established trees.

A small patch of green next to river yarra in the midst of busy Melbourne. Good to see the helicopters landing every few minutes making a buzz. Close to tram stop and crown.

John Batman, for whom this park is named, was a good businessman and capable explorer. Batman was one of the founders of Melbourne, which he described as a "village." Batman acquired land from the native Wurundjeri people, although it is doubtful if the understood the concept of "land" or "money." These dealings brought Batman into disrepute. These days, many people think that Batman received. too little credit for his role in founding Melbourne.

This small park down by the river, while not overly spectacular is a great reuse of an old railway freight yard. Nice places to sit and watch the world go by. A nice gift to Melbournians and its part of the network of CBD greenspaces that make this city what it is.

The park is located between Spencer Street and King Street Bridges. There is a good amount of grassy area where you can sit and watch things happening on the river. There is also a helipad here.
There is a BBQ area on the riverside with BBQs and seating area. A fairly nice park for a small stroll. It is also a nice location to look at the Crown fire show at night.

We have three young boys and this small park is a good spot to let them run around but that’s about it. There is no play equipment/playground and the size is fairly small. There are major roads on two sides and the river on the third so you need to keep a close eye on little ones. The silver lining is a helicopter landing pad right by the park on the river which offers a fun thing for the kids to see although it is quite loud.

Lots of beautiful parks in Melbourne, but this is not one of them. Marred by the train tracks overhead, noisy. Landscape is dried up and ugly. Just plain.
