We had a little difficulty in finding their contact details, but once we were in contact, we were provided with excellent information all the way up until the tour, including itinerary (which we could tweak) and recommendations on where to stay (spot on), even advice on how to getting to the city from the airport a few days before the tour.

Tour was really well put together. Stops well spaced apart. Very varied. Missed all the traffic. Nice car for the journey. Really excellent job.

Even after the tour, James was a valuable source of local information, hints and tips of what to do and where to go. Now that’s service!

Thrilling tour along the great ocean road. We were spoilt with jaw dropping view after view. The wildlife viewing was immensely fun as well. Being a private tour we could stop where we wanted and when we wanted. We choose to extend our time at a few stops as we are passionate photographers. Really enjoyable day out.

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience with us, There are few places on the planet that can offer the diversity for photographers, as the tour runs not only along the coast, but also through some lovely forest areas as well. We are glad you had an enjoyable day out. Hopefully you can spread the word. Safe travels, Great Ocean Road Tours

We had actually contemplated cancelling our tour to Australia due to the current bush fire situation. We have visited Australia twice before, and we do plan to visit again in the future, so it would not have been a massive blow had we missed out on a trip this time round. But we decided last minute to keep to our original plans, although with a little apprehension.

James, our tour guide, sent us a pre-tour emai & textl to calm our nerves. He also didn’t hide away from the risk of fires from us and openly explained the situation (little did he know we already knew most of what he told us, due to being fixated to the tv days prior to the tour, watching the situation unfold). Even the fact that he had cancelled a trip the week before, due to risk I guess showed that safety was a primary factor of concern on the tour. During the tour he also checked the routes we were travelling along, to ensure the ways was 100% safe, through the use of a nifty government phone App which he showed us in detail. Having someone who is a local and well prepared in such unforseen events, was just so re-assuring. It helped us put the fire situation to the back of our mind, knowing that he was constantly monitoring the situation, allowing us to concentrate on the actual tour itself.

I don’t need to write much about the tour, as from reading previous reviews, everything I wanted to mention has already been covered.

But yeah, if you are a little apprehensive about doing a tour during this particular period, Then choosing a company like this may just calm your nerves a little.

Thank you for keeping us safe (not that we were really ever at risk in the first place!) and for giving us such a memorable day out.

Wow! What a tour! We are still talking about this tour with our friends despite being back home 2 weeks now! The road was mesmerising. The scenery was just.....well words fail me. James was our guide. He clearly knows the area well and some of the more ‘colourful’ locals - some of whom were enjoying the Melbourne cup day in one of the towns we passed through (which is a horse race) a bit too much *glug glug*

The tour had everything, and was set at our own pace - which is at a snails pace! We wanted to really enjoy each stop and not be rushed.

Our overnight stop was in Apollo Bay. Watching the sunrise over the beach is also something I’m going to remember for a long time. Best sunrise I’ve ever seen. Such a beautiful town and setting.

Booking the tour was easy and the final payment we made on the tour, which we preferred rather than paying for the whole tour upfront.

Want a private tour of the road? These guys are great!

So we basically wanted a private tour of the Great Ocean Road to really get the most out of our time. We had flown over from UAE on a business trip but were determined to squeeze a day tour in. After much investigation we choose Great Ocean Road Tours. Firstly their price for a private tour wasnt bad - starting at $700 Australian per day compared with other private tours which were often double this price when we looked. And secondly the response was very good. We had to be picked up from one hotel location in the morning and dropped off at another in the evening, and this was no bother.

I would have loved to have chosen their 2 day tour option, but we just didn’t have the time. Perhaps next time.

Mar 2019 • Family
My family and i were looking for something a little different for the short time that we had in Melbourne - we had done lots of day tours there over the years as a family, but never felt the need to do a private tour. But some friends had recommended the company Great Ocean Road Tours to use, so we went with that, just to mix up our trip a little.
We contacted them a few months prior to travel, and the itinerary of the private one day tour of the Road they came up with, sounded perfect.
We had a memorable day filled with lots of laughs, sights, sounds and wildlife.
It is a local company with an emphasis really personalising your experience.
Answers to enquiries were prompt, friendly and informative.
Prices were very reasonable when compared with several other operators - just make sure you do your homework on this one and don't just rush into booking the first one you see because you 'think' they might sell out - in other words SHOP AROUND!
Our driver/guide was a local to the road itself and knew the area intimately. He was also a great source of information on travel in general and even helped plan part of our nsw trip over lunch in a cafe.
Our pick up and drop off were spot on time and the SUV we travelled in was comfy, always with a bottle of water to hand and wifi access when we needed it - although not through the dense forest areas. But hey, get off your wifi or you will miss some amazing things.
We were also treated to a treasure trove of music on the long drive back. We could even stream music from our phone to the car stereo which was a nice touch. Theres nothing like listening to your own favorite music on a road trip.

We only had a limited window of opportunity to see the great ocean road after arriving into Melbourne via cruise ship. This was a fantastic tour. I would have preferred to have had two days, but our cruise ship wasn’t going to wait round for us to do that! Thumbs up.

After some sub-standard private tours we took in Sydney (I’ll be having words with my travel agent when I return from my vacation), we were glad to finally a decent private tour along the ocean road. Our guide was professional, friendly and knew the area very well.

We were fortunate to have 3 days to see this fabulous road. Most, it would appear rush down in one day. I just don’t get the point in doing that. Even our 3 days, were packed full of sightseeing. Up early visiting places and often not back until the late afternoon. The tour was Well organised, had good variety of things to see/do and was well tailored to our interests and fitness level. James our guide and driver for the 3 days was a local, which really took the experience to the next level.

12 hour full day tour review :

Negative :
It’s a long day out (lots of driving). I didn’t get a bit car sick.
Flies, lots of flies (toured in summer)
If it’s raining, you still need to get out of the car if you want to see things (no time to wait for the rain to stop....as it might never stop!)
Early morning start (not good for jet lag)
I would have liked a seafood lunch but we didn’t have time

Positive :
Guide was great. Really knew the area
Flexibility
Price (good value compared with others)
Car was very comfy and had everything we needed onboard
Safe driving (very very very important)

All in all, it was a great tour. I think the negatives I listed, you would probably get with any one day tour along the great Ocean Road. In hindsight, I probably should have chosen a 2 day tour, but we were pretty pushed on the timefront. Otherwise it was a very good tour if you remove the inclement weather and the flies.
