About
'The Crumbling Prince' is an immersive experience that transcends traditional storytelling in cinema and theatre, by making audiences the agents of their own narrative. It is played by a team of 2 to 5 players in a physical, interactive environment where you are literally present in the story world. This is NOT an escape room. In the way that our previous game 'Deep Space' is one step away from an Escape Room, 'The Crumbling Prince' is another two steps forward. It’s much more like being inside a Legend of Zelda video game, or a Studio Ghibli film such as Spirited Away, or Princess Mononoke.

- Pete H4 contributionsAn beautifully gorgeous family experienceThe kids and I absolutely loved it! We went as a family of four, my partner, my 10 year old daughter and 8 year old son and had a blast. It's not an escape room if that's what you're looking for, and it was all the better for it! It it felt like being in a REAL LIFE video game! There were some really cool Easter eggs in the game, little secrets that we discovered after playing the little computer game that came complementary as part of the package. It made the experience so rich! I highly recommend it for families. We weren't sure going with the younger ones, but we're definitely going to return for the Space adventure!Visited April 2023Written 10 April 2023
- JanelleSydney, Australia5 contributionsGo with the Princes Flow…This was a beautiful immersive experience. The narrative and interaction with the Prince was unique and created an atmosphere where the tasks required had a natural flow. Highly recommended (and thanks to Sandy our games master for setting the scene so beautifully).Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 17 April 2023
- Adam B1 contributionAn amazing experience.Well where to start, yesterday was my 3rd trip to Ukiyo. I have done Crumbling Prince 1 & 2 and deep space. It gets better every time I go. The staff are amazing and we were very well looked after and they were extremely knowledgeable about what was going on there. Now onto the actual rooms, it's unlike any other escape room. The story it takes you on all the way down to the best interactive AI iv ever seen in an escape room. The Puzzles are fun and engaging. This place has been well thought out and 100% worth the money. can't wait to go back to finish Deep space 2 now. Thanks guys for the great work.Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 1 May 2023
- Xavier W1 contributionGreat experienceThe experience is extremely immersive from the second you step inside of the building. The friendly staff are incredibly helpful and aid the immersion. Deep space dark lets you choose how the story plays out. This is an amazing experience, would highly recommend coming here when you have the time to. 11/10Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 1 May 2023
- Liv B1 contributionExcellent and unique experienceI played Deep Space and it's sequel and they were awesome! This is different to any other escape room I've played. There was a storyline that piqued my curiosity and kept me interested the whole way through. It didn't feel like I was solving puzzles to get out but rather finding a story that was in equal parts thrilling and satisfying. Highly recommend and long live EnkiduVisited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 2 May 2023
- Sian1 contributionhighly reccomend!!me and a couple of my friends went to ukiyo for one of their birthdays to do part one to deep space. The host was incredibly good at giving the brief to it all, and the experience was packed full of choices, challenges and a couple fun characters who guided us along the way. The experience made you completely embody your role and we knew that we had to go back for part 2, which was just as enjoyable and we had an absolute blast. it’s the perfect day or night out for a smaller group of friends. 11/10 would highly recommendVisited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 6 May 2023
- Jacob MMelbourne, Australia2 contributionsWhat a unique experience! Our group played The Crumbling Prince and it was a cool experience. It was very different to other escape rooms I’ve played (in a good way). Contrary to a traditional escape room, this room transports you to another realm where we could watch the narrative unfold around us. Talking to the Prince was really cool too, never seen something like it before in one of these escape rooms. 10 out of 10 would bring other friends and play againVisited April 2023Written 5 July 2023
- lhoisid201616 contributionsUnique and highly recommendedWe did Deep Space and then Deep Space II the same day as we enjoyed it so much. The staff were great, one even adopted a story related character when something needed fixing which was hilarious. I would describe this experience as a team role play adventure with interactive NPC characters. Sure it has escape room elements but its the story and your interaction with the NPC characters that really make this experience. Its less about 'escaping' and more about the journey. We had an 11 and 14 year old with us two adults. Our two kids interacted with NPCs in ways we would not have and the game was so much more fun because of it. There is also a pre-game which I highly recommend as it immerses you into the story and lets you better understand that the focus is on the story interaction. It is more expensive than other 'escape rooms', but this is something very unique, different and highly recommend.Visited July 2023Written 15 July 2023

Where normally the escape rooms tend to be focused on puzzles, this is story and character, and that makes for such a nice change. We did the Crumbling Prince, and our group all found ourselves thinking hard about what we said in the room, and how we said it. Remarkable.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 17 July 2023
- DingoberryBrisbane, Australia1 contributionAn Experience that ended up becoming the Highlight of our trip!!!Our group of four played the Crumbling Prince Part 1 at Ukiyo, hosted by our lovely game master Dean. The “escape room” experience was so different to everything else that we have played in the past and we were so intrigued by the concept that we went back to play Part 2 later that same day. A massive shoutout to our host Dean, which made the day the unforgettable experience that it is, was so friendly and funny. He also kindly stay back on his shift to introduced us to the Ukiyo-produced card game, Kitsunedo, which we will be undoubtably playing more of when we get back. Can not recommend this place enough!!!Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 24 July 2023

I went to complete the Deep Space: Divinity story with the family for a birthday. The room was beautiful and immersive with really cool sets, lighting, and sound design, our 'AI companion' who helped us, Enkidu, was super sweet and helpful, and the puzzles were super cool and fun to complete. We though they balanced urgency and there being enough time to complete tasks perfectly as well, which was really important as we were completely new to any sort of escape room.
We're definitely hoping to come back, although we can't decide if we want to do the next Deep Space adventure or The Crumbling Prince, as we were shown that room as well and it looks so gorgeous!

The experience was amazing from start to finish. Our game master Dean was great fun and made the experience all the better.
The room was beautifully designed and the puzzles were clever and so much fun to work through. The technology was incredible and the story line was intriguing. Can't wait to come back for part 2 :)

We did Escape or Die which has recently been taken over by Ukiyo. One of the better escape rooms in Melbourne. The puzzles weren't the most difficult but were satisfying and the story was really immersing. Highly recommend our game master Beth. She even gave us tea because we were freezing. Such friendly service and passionate staff. We want a sequel! #justiceforhenry

Hi, I will be a solo traveller when I come to Melbourne is April. Can 1 person do this attraction?
Hi All. I have a group of four, aged 11. Are they able to do the experience?

Hi Jess,
While they could have a go at it, I think this escape room might be suited to older individuals. Some of the riddles/challenges can be quite difficult. However if these kids are no stranger to escape rooms, they might be suitable. You could always email the place directly to see how younger people might have faired in the past, the staff are very honest and friendly.

How do we get there using public transport? We are holidaying in Melbourne and staying at Southbank in early July. We are a family of 3, 2 adults and 15 year old will it be suitable for that number? Thank you!

Thanks for reaching out!
You can catch the 1 or 6 tram from Flinders Street Station. That will take you up the the Moreland Rd/Holmes St stop which is less than a minutes walk from Ukiyo.
The other option is catching a train to Moreland Station and walking down Moreland Rd for 10min.
3 players would be perfectly fine
Cheers,
Michael

I was just enquiring whether you would allow a family of five ages 8, 10 and 12 and two adults participate in the crumbling prince? Understand it’s a 4 player experience, but whether it’s flexible for a extra player.

Unfortunately, the Crumbling Prince experience is made specifically with four players in mind. The ages are absolutely suitable, but I don't think they'll be able to accommodate an extra player.

Hi Deborah,
The Crumbling Prince can take kids from about the age of five but a parent guardian needs to take part. It's a great experience for kids as to them it feels even more real. They get immersed super quick so it's a really surreal experience for them :)
If you have any further questions, or want more detail, please don't hesitate to ask!

Is Episode 2 out? As one of the first to experience the uniqueness of Ukiyo, we’ve been dying to fly back to Melb to continue our adventure. But while some reviews cite an episode 2, the website and bookings only work for part 1...

Hi!
tmgacutan is correct. Episode 2 is open for Early Access. That means prize winners, staff, Ukiyo team family and friends etc. Early Access will probably go for about two weeks and then we'll be open to the public :)
Cheers,
Michael
