Located in the heart of Melbourne's Chinatown, the Chinese Museum's five floors showcase the heritage and culture of Australia's Chinese community. Our purpose is to operate a museum, to promote and preserve Chinese Culture and history - especially of Australian-Chinese history in Australia.

Really interesting museum covering the history of the Chinese in Australia.
Well laid out with permanent stuff, special exhibitions and a great gold mining experience in the basement!

The Chinese Museum is a national museum conserving, promoting and researching the contribution of the Chinese people to Australia. Since the Great Australian Gold Rush of the 1850s, the Chinese have contributed to Australia's rich and diverse social history. The is also a display of Han Dynasty, emphasizing the many technological achievements of this great dynasty. Entry fees are moderate.

The Chinese Museum was formed in 1985 and refurbished in 2010 with government help. It has five floors and has many displays. It is in Melbourne's Chinatown. It has exhibitions relating to Chinese experiences in the 1800s Australian Goldfields On the ground floor is the Dragon Gallery, which is home to Dai Loong and the Millennium Dragon, the largest Chinese dragon in the world.

After passing the Chinese Museum most days on our way back to our Hotel, on our last day in Melbourne, we visited the Museum.
It is very informative about the history of Chinese Australians. We loved to see parts of the Chinese Culture and the Goldrush Exhibit on the lowest level.
Definitely worth a visit.

This year is the Year of the Tiger, it should be a good year for business, The Museum of Chinese Australian History is a record of Chinese life in Australia, It is quite fascinating for anyone with Chinese ancestry, or for anyone with an interest in the Chinese in Australia,

The Chinese are a determined people; they keep their culture alive, as the Museum of Chinese Australian History shows, The Museum has many artefacts, including Loong, the oldest Chinese imperial drogon in the world. The Museum is in Cohen Place, in the heart of Chinatown. By the way, a statue of Dr Sun Yat-sen, the founder of modern China, can be found neat thde entrance.

There have been substantial numbers of Chinese people in Australia, at least since the Great Australian Goldrush in the 1850s. This fascinating museum has many artefacts that will interest people of all nations. By the way, look out for the statue of Dr Sun Yat-sen, the founder of modern China, at the front of the building.

Melbourne has a long history of Chinese habitation, which began in the Great Australian Gold Rush of 1851. There are many artefacts here, it is well worth a visit if you have an interest in Chinese culture.

It was very interesting and informative. Showing the timeline of the roman empire against the chinese and was interesting to find that they started about the same time. The only comment I would make that on many items they wern't dated. It gave you dates of when the chinese actually came to australia as word had got around about the gold and tin. The basement was really good I thought set up like a ship and it rocked and had audio. Had sleeping quarters, tools of trade, lottery house, fortune house, layout of how they would work on the land. It was excellent.
