Really wanted to like this place...
Feb. 2021 • Friends
A close but no cigar. It looks the part; very similar (or even a carbon copy you might say) to Pacific Fair Shopping Mall in Broadbeach in that it’s a mix of indoor/outdoor shopping experience. When I came it seemed that the only store that was receiving a lot of foot traffic was Costco; the rest of the shops were sadly & eerily quiet.

The biggest disappointment about this place is that besides the indoor/outdoor concept, there’s nothing here that stands out. Every store here is done better somewhere else. It’s not easy to get to, they really should just give away free parking to entice customers and lastly the atmosphere and overall vibe is dead.

Hi, thank you for reviewing our precinct. We are very fortunate to still be able to offer our customers great brands including BONDS, HypeDC, H&M, UNIQLO, Cotton On and Skechers just to name a few. We also have plenty of dining options to choose from with a variety of cuisines including Japanese, Chinese, Greek, pub offer, burgers, pizza and more. Our locals are spoilt for choice with the fresh food precinct Market Lane offering great fresh food options. The District is growing. We are continuing to make improvements to the precinct with the installation of new escalator in the entertainment precinct and further weather proofing with new roof installation. We look forward to more positive changes in the future and hope you will visit us again. Thank you

Nice bright shopping centre.
Feb. 2021 • Solo
Located at the base of the Melbourne Star is this shopping centre. It is quite open and bright, even on a cloudy day, as large portions of the roof are glass. I would say the pandemic has had a negative effect as there are a few empty spaces and parts are under refurbishment. Still a nice spot.

Underwhelming shopping precinct
Jan. 2021
Plenty of choices for eating. Great attractions if going for them. Easy to drive to with heaps of parking. However if going to 'shop' I suggest getting the free tram from out the front and heading into the CBD. So many empty shops here, it is depressing.........

Extremely underwhelming waste of time
Jan. 2021 • Solo
An abysmal shopping centre with around 90% of units vacant. No atmosphere anywhere. Very bland walkways with empty dirty units everywhere you look. Not worth the trip to go to. Fast food units seem busy but then again anyone would flock to cheap food if advertised.
No shops of interest there apart from a couple high street names who’s stores feel like funeral parlours.
Do not waste time going here and instead venture into the real CBD or head to the big shopping centres. I feel sorry for staff who have to work here.

Hi, thank you for reviewing The District. We are sorry your last visit was not to your expectations. We are working very hard to secure more stores to open in the current circumstances. We are very fortunate to still be able to offer our customers great brands including BONDS, HypeDC, H&M, UNIQLO, Cotton On and Skechers just to name a few. We have plenty of dining options to choose from with a variety of cuisines with KFC, Carl's Jr, Nando's, Urban Alley Brewery, Yassas Greek, Fukutontei Ramen and more. Our locals are spoilt for choice with our fresh food precinct Market Lane offering great fresh food options with Woolworths and Dan Murphy's, deli, butcher and fish monger. We also have a pharmacy and health food store. The District is growing. We are continuing to make improvements to the precinct with the installation of new escalator in the entertainment precinct and further weather proofing with new roof installation. In the coming months there will be more workers returning to the office and The District will open its very own offices. We look forward to more positive changes in the future and hope you will visit us again. Thank you

It’s ok to quickly grab something before parking becomes paid
Dec. 2020
As with the rest of the DOCKLANDS housing and restaurant development, this is a flop. DOCKLANDS housing was mostly bought by Chinese investors who left the apartments empty, so I feel for the shop keepers who bought into the “new city” BS fed to them by the developers of the area. I live nearby so the Woolworths is my go to supermarket, although because of the lack of people at district, the quality of the fruit and veg seems to be declining every time I go there. Staff are really really nice though, and car parking is easy. Beware that parking is 90 mins, so if you’re like me and like to take your time, you’ll now be stung with a $10 charge even for being one minute over time. It used to be $1 which was fair, although spending over $100 there parking should be free. District does have food outlets, but due to the price of parking I don’t go there. Unless I can be out within 90 minutes I don’t wanna pay $10 parking to eat lunch! The deli opposite the Woolworths is amazing and have the BEST vegetarian lasagna I’ve ever eaten. Staff are extremely nice too, and I always buy from there. The tempura sushi from the sushi shop is amazing too, and staff are very nice. The layout of the shopping complex is weird, if you go up the escalators there are shops closed everywhere. I can’t remember how many shops have changed since it’s been opened. I feel sorry for the shopkeepers being sold a lie about the numbers of people going there, although I’m sure now more people can see how dead the area is. It’s a shame because I believe that if parking was free with say a $100 purchase Throughout the centre, more people would go. I don’t understand why they would charge so much for parking when they can see the vendors there struggling. It’s the same at DFO south wharf. Ridiculous parking costs so nobody goes there.

Thank you for your feedback about the centre and parking. We will take these comments on board. We offered a reduced parking rate throughout lockdown with parking rates reverting to normal in December. The upper level is largely vacant due the recent building of the Marriott Hotel and Residences and now that this is complete, the upper level will be converted to offices.

Underrated
Mar. 2020 • Family
Have been visiting this area for years. Always a good place to get discounted goods. A number of great attractions such as the Observation Wheel,O’Brien Ice Arena and ArtVo.

TIP: number of tram routes stop here or make use of car park (they have cheap deals such as % off if you spend minimal amount in stores here)

Lack of big brands and no free parking
Feb. 2020 • Solo
It’s a great concept, love the idea of being outdoor shopping instead of inside a shopping centre. However, it is sad that I had to pay for parking as I didn’t get the park pass from the shops I spend money. It’s lack of people and shops. Need to get more big brands there such as Zara, Witchery, Country Road! And please you need to get free parking for 2 hours or so when you spend money in the shops whatever shops you go to and get the pass from the shop directly that will get people there as if you are out spending money the extra cost of parking can be a break as other shopping centres offer free parking !

This is a lovely shopping mall and has a good choice of restaurants, a cinema,
Melbourne Star Observation Wheel and ArtVo. Yet there are so many empty shops. On Saturday afternoon when you would expect it should be bustling it was pretty dead. Sadly Typo being the latest closure. When so many high street shops are struggling against internet shopping, maybe they should waver parking and hold some events. Sad really as a nice shopping area.

Docklands Re Visited
Jan. 2020
Returned to see whether it had improved from our last visit, I think it had got worse, many shops closed and vacant, not the vibrant place it used to be, food places are still there but very disappointed overall would not bother to return again unless they improve the shopping
