About
Moonee Valley Racing Club owns the Moonee Valley Racecourse in Melbourne, Vic. It is the home of the Legendary Ladbrokes Cox Plate and the Ladbrokes Friday Night Lights. The MVRC is a family-friendly and inclusive Club that provides up to 25 racedays every year – and in 2022 we will see the 100th year of the W.S Cox Plate. As well as horse racing, the MVRC holds business events, owns several entertainment venues, has its own catering division, and is undergoing a redevelopment to create “The Valley of Tomorrow”. Moonee Valley Racecourse was established in 1883 by William Samuel (W.S.) Cox, who purchased a farm the previous year belonging to John F. Feehan for the purpose of establishing a racetrack. Being entirely freehold land owned by a private club, this separates Moonee Valley from other Melbourne racecourse such as Caulfield and Flemington. Expansion of the racecourse facilities occurred in the 1960s.

On what was my 17th Cox Plate was a bit of a disappointment? Our normal venue at the finish post, Inner Circle, was unavailable so we were moved into a windowless room which just didn't cut it! After a 3 year absence it was a big let down. The staff were not up to normal standards, getting many orders wrong, repeatedly? Ground staff were friendly & helpful but the TAB staff were downright rude. I moved to the bookies for some smiles, but still got burnt! We are not called the poor boys punters club for nothing? Thank goodness the racing was still exciting! The seating was ordinary but the view was the winner! The pricing is getting ridiculous at over $600 and it showed as the crowd was way thinner then in the past!!

Moonee Valley Racecourse is a significant suburban racetrack. The track is conveniently located close to city transport. It's easy walking distance to Moonee Junction. Parking is not usually a problem. Facilities are quite acceptable. Moonee Valley's annual Spring Racing Carnival feature race is the Cox Plate, which is known as the Championship of Australian Racing. The champion stakes-winning mare Winx won this race four times. Moonee Valley Racing Club is an inner-city racetrack. It's easy to get to. Moonee Valley's big event is the Cox Plate, a highlight of Melbourne's Spring Racing Carnival. The Cox Plate is a weight-for-age race, it has the reputation for being the championship event of Australian thoroughbred racing. Many champion horses have proved their mettle here.

Moonee Valley Racecourse is one of Melbourne's major racetracks. It hosts a number of significant events, including the Cox Plate, known as the championship event of Australian racing. The weekly race meeting is held every Friday night, under lights. The track has several good restaurants, including the Legends and the excellent Tote Bar and Dining. The Valley has good parking and is well-served by public transport. Moonee Valley is a centre for thorougbred racing in Australia.

My wife and I had a fantastic Friday night at the Moonee Valley Racecourse. It is our first evening racing experience in Australia. The concept is very similar to Happy Valley Wednesday night racing in Hong Kong and evening racing at Kranji racecourse in Singapore. The track itself is left handed and very tight with a short straight. There is good track bias and favoured the punters. It is nice to see Brett Prebble in action, although he did not salute a winner. The staff were very friendly and helpful and showed us the stable and mounting areas.

After an ordinary function room last Cox Plate, we returned to our favourite spot. A pretty good buffet meal (with the exception of the frozen prawns) had something for everyone. We had our reserved seats in line with the finish post again and could not fault the racing. Exciting in all respects. I just wish I could punt better!! The crowd was a bit smaller then years gone past but it made for a comfortable visit. The MVRC do a great job but we need Darryl back for the Horses!

Always a great day in the inner circle. However, the peeled watered flavourless defrosted prawns are an embarrassment to fish mongers Australia over, in fact Coles and Woolies do better. Go back to proper prawns.

We have visited this Racetrack several times. It is a Wonderful Venue. Ample parking space , great ammenities with several function rooms. All very spacious. Overall the food and drinks available are great.
The lights of the City at night look Magical.
If there was to be a negative, it would have to be regarding a lot of the elderly citizens, that are obviously holding a position, that is meant to assist the public. They are so rude. ( given a bit of authority and they are going to use it ) there is ways to speak to people and get the best from them. They all need to attend a public relations course.
In saying this , I am in the Elderly Citizen Category. Rudeness is Rudeness

My punters group (Poor Boys Punters Club) just attended their 24th Cox Plate and I racked up 15 visits. We have not had a bad visit in all that time and the facilities just keep improving to make the experience even better. We get there early & visit the stables to look over our choices and pick up the vibe. Our seats are always in a fantastic spot with the finishing post in line which gives us just about the same view as the Judges !! Plus Darryl sings the "Horses" just below us but was missing in 2019 !!! We enjoy the buffet & drinks in the Inner Circle Restaurant which is part of the members and Dianne & her servers are fantastic & attentive. I only got 3rd place in the Plate but at good odds had a successful day on the punt and can't wait till next years visit to the Valley !

Me and a few mates are coming to the cox plate this year we have seats in the lower berston stand just wondering what it’s like view wise and is there good access to bars and food stalls??

Yep, not as good as the Inner Circle but still a good choice and close enough to drop into the bookie area and the public area for a look & view of the fields ??? I've done 13 Cox Plates and never tire of the event or Track, Enjoy !!!
