Would recommend this tour upon arrival in Melbourne, but we took it after a day of exploring on our own, which half of the tour covered (but added a few historic details). This is a “free” tour when you book but based on your experience they ask to pay for what you feel the tour was worth; we felt it was worth an average tour price and were happy to pay, just caught off guard when it is advertised as free.
Our guide Beau was full on historical information, very friendly and helpful with suggestions. Glad we took the tour!

Just finished the complete Melbourne walking tour with our guide Beau Stegmann, what a fantastic day out in Melbourne.
I did this tour with my mum. We have both lived in Melbourne our whole lives and would usually do tours like this one in cities all around the world when we travel but we decided seeing we won’t be adventuring around the world anytime soon to become tourists in our own city and it was fabulous.
Our guide beau was brilliant he has a vast knowledge of Melbournes history, secret bars to go to, street art, coffee history of Melbourne, all the laneways and the best cafes to eat at.
I left our tour with a list of places I want to visit next time I’m in the city.
The tour goes for about 3 hours and includes a coffee and a beer. You get to visit some of Melbournes best known landmarks and adventure through the hidden laneways, see street art and then onto the arcades, the stories we heard along the way were fantastic on how quickly Melbourne grew during the gold rush to when the MCG became an army base during the war.
I highly recommend this walking tour even if you are a local it’s a great day and im sure you will learn something new about Melbourne.

Such an informative, interesting tour. Caitlyn clearly has great knowledge of the the city, and I learnt many historical facts I was unaware of. My 9 year old daughter also enjoyed it, the pace was great and I'd thoroughly recommend to those visiting Melbourne, and also locals. Thank you Caitlyn!

The tour was great very interesting and the guide (Beau) was very passionate when he talked about the city’s history.
If you are going to Melbourne do this tour in the beginning of your visit so you have time to check out the places he recommends on your own after. Thanks Beau / The Swedes

I did a free walking tour with Caitlyn and strongly recommend it to everybody visiting Melbourne. You will get a very good first impression of this wonderful city and will be prepared well to explore on your own afterwards. Caitlyn is an awesome guide who seems to know everything about the city she was born in. She gives interesting insights by telling stories that you will remember for a long time. Strongly recommended!

John was our American/Aussie guide who immediately made us all feel welcome & relaxed. A great group of people meandering around some truely dodgy laneways to discourse some awesome gems of bars. A really fun way to spend a beautiful day in the gorgeous city of Melbourne. My 2nd time, not my last!

The ‘free tour’ is technically free, but the tour guides rely on gratuities for their income, so it would be a very hard-hearted person who did not acknowledge such an excellent tour with a well-deserved voluntary payment. Our guide was Kevin and his enthusiasm for Melbourne is infectious! Before his tour, I thought that Sydney was my favourite city in Australia. Having learnt about some of Melbourne’s history, explored the laneways, and experienced the food and coffee culture, I have discovered that Melbourne has a charm of its own. Another great thing about Kevin is that because he is an actor, he knows how to project his voice, which means that everyone in our group of 25 could hear clearly above the street noise. Kevin has a wealth of knowledge about Melbourne and encouraged questions. He checked out queries about restaurants etc and gave answers before the tour ended.

Myself and my husband went on this free walking tour today. Our tour guide, Caitlyn was extremely engaging and gave a great introduction to the history and culture of Melbourne. She is a native of Melbourne-she really knows and loves the city. What an interesting place!
I would definitely recommend taking this tour at the start of your trip to Melbourne, it will give you lots of tips and ideas for things to do and places to visit.

We have been on weekends to Melbourne many times, but felt there lots of places we’d probably never seen. Sara our guide was amazing, so full of enthusiasm and love for this city. She explained the history & wealth of early settlement. The amazing architecture that came with that and what life was like. We visited some laneways & saw many amazing & influential artists work. The heritage shopping arcades and also how the early settlers lived life in the city. We finished off in the grounds of the old Melbourne Gaol hearing about Ned Kelly & went to have a beer together at the pub where he spent his last night before his execution. The afternoon was really enjoyable & we learnt so much in a fun relaxed way.

Hiya! I'm John and I own Walks 101. While we accept walk-ups, a pre-booking is very much appreciated as it helps us know when we need to send more guides to the tour. We prefer to keep our groups small, and pre-bookings help us accomplish this.

how can i travel on the tram with a baby

No problems. Almost all tram stops in Melbourne are level for entry with the tram and pushers/strollers can be taken on-board. Babys travel free.

Yes it does - this tour visits 4-6 street art laneways (depending on your guide), and if you're still interested at the end, the guides give you a free map to help you find more street art laneways. It also visits two historic covered arcades.
