Top ways to experience Hosier Lane
The area
Neighbourhood: Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

    Street art is constantly changing
Hosier Lane is best known for its spray art. The street art is constantly changing, some of it is quite dramatic. It's a favorite spot for visitors to Melbourne. Hosier Lane is easy to find, it's om the left hand side as you walk east along Flinders Street.

    Nothing impressive
I understand the graffiti art changes here regularly and at the time of our visit there really was nothing worth walking there for. The graffiti was very, how do I say this, normal and not quite worth looking at . I thought the ones at Fitroy was nicer.

This is a small laneway full of ever changing graffiti art. Definitely worth a look but be aware this is very popular and usually full of tourists trying to get their pic of the artworks too.

Hosier Lane is a place of street art style murals. It's built a reputation as a place to stroll along at some point and you see many people having their photos taken or unleashing the selfie stick to record their visit.

However as of June 2023 there are virtually no murals of interest as they've all been obscured by 'tags' and, basically, graffiti of no redeeming worth. What could be an amusing and colorful laneway has basically been spoiled by mindless sock puppets so desperate for some sort of validation of their existence they scrawl whatever tosh they find empowering over works that might actually have once been of interest.

Having said that - if the place is rejuvenated on a regular basis perhaps my visit was just ill-timed.

Hosier Lane is famous for graffini arts that are constantly changing. Some topics are abstract that are difficult to understand. Easy to locate-near Flinders Street Station. Lots of visitors there.

Based on all the various media articles on Hosier Lane, I had high hopes for this stroll, expecting to see amazing street art. What we saw was large swathes of delinquent graffiti scribble. This combined with stinky smells of rotting garbage in commercial bins and a homeless camp just made it feel like a run down part of the city.

Always changing- a few weeks ago Hossier Lane looked amazing and fresh. Today it had a lot of vandalism/ graffiti over the art which was disappointing. You never know what you'll see.
Tonight there were so many people there- not sure if a bus had dropped people off but wow...

Visit the lanes every time we go to Melbourne just if nothing else but to see the new graffiti but this time was just so disappointed with what we saw. Very little new stuff and so much defacing of the old brilliant stuff. How can people be so destructive to what used to be one of Melbourne's most iconic attraction? It is not anything like as good as it once was such a shame.
