Neighbourhood: Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!
Perhaps in earlier times this was a great example of street art, but a recent walk up Hosier lane confirmed that it’s notoriety has meant that every knucklehead under the sun with a can of spray paint has left their uninspiring mark with no respect to the original art that they’ve covered over. It’s a mess of less-than-artistic tags, nothing more.
Do yourself a favour, get outta town, and make your way down the laneways of nearby Fitzroy where you’ll find some of the best street art in unexpected places that you’re ever likely to see.

Hosier Lane's strong point is that it is always changing. It's a form of contemporary street art, whether you like it or not depends on your tastes; it doesn't appeal to everyone. Hosier Lane is not as grotty as some street art venues, and it's a step up from random grafitti that is often splattered everywhere. One point in Hosier Lane's favour is that it's only a few hundred meters from Flinders St Station

Hosier Lane has Melbourne's best street art. The wall art is often weird and wonderful, but it is always interesting. Best of all, the graphics are always changing -- come on day, and you will see one thing, go a week later and you will see something completely different. Hosier Lane runs off Flinders Street. Walk several hundred yards towards the MCG and you will see Hosier Lane on the left

Some people rave about Hosier Lane saying it is an artistic 'must see' however it has a rather unclean appearance and much of it is just just graffiti rather than street art. Melbourne is known for its wonderful lanes however this s not one of them. Many other lanes are full of eateries and little shops. Hosier Lane, so close to Flinders Street Station, St. Paul's Cathedral, Federation Square and the art-deco Forum Theatre in my opinion is rather disgraceful and not a good advertisement for Melbourne.

Mixture of street-art and graffiti. Better known but less interesting than some other city laneways.

Hosier Lane is one of Melbourne's famous Street Art streets. It is a short street but it is full of some of the most interesting as well as not so great "street art". Much of it is plain graffiti and not all of it of merit. Still, it is worth visiting.

Hosier Lane has probably seen better days as it’s not all street art. There is also graffiti up and down the lane. There is the odd bar along the way, however, it’s not overly clean either.

The art is sometimes creative and sometimes just plain tacky graffiti and although an interesting area of Melbourne and worth seeing it is now more tacky than artistic and needs to be managed and having said that I have no idea how to do it. What was once an interesting creative art place in Melbourne is now just a laneway with nothing special bordering on the bad.

Hosier Lane has Melbourne's best wall art, it changes all the time. It is usually crowded. To get there, walk east on Flinders St from the Station, i's on the left in an alley..

Hosier Lane is one of Melbourne's most popular attractions. It's spray painted art; and it's ever changing, there's always something new. Hosier Lane is easy to find, it runs off Flineers street, not far from Flinders St Station, as you walk towards Spring St.

It's just an open street so no closing time. I wouldn't recommend going after dark -- you won't be able to see all the art and it does have a few lurkers.
