Had heard of Hosier Lane and decided to walk up while in the area. Well worth a look, some talented people have painted some very good artworks. But, it is a laneway not an art gallery. There were a couple of shady people in a corner up to no good. Didn't feel unsafe, but go in with your eyes open.

Graffiti is king and encouraged in this short alley way in the heart of the city. Great photo ops and opportunity to meet some very talented alt artists.

This is one of the spots which we just had to seewhilst in Melbourne. The street art in Graffiti Lane (aka Hosiery Lane) is easy to find and is an interesting place. If you are in the Melbourne CBD it is worth having a look. There were a few suspect looking people around the area but they did not trouble... More

Well since Melbourne is a place full of art (sculptures, performances), this is another place to see all the street art on the walls of the buildings and even on the trash bins. Some very interesting street art and sometimes you might even see the artist doing their new pieces of art over the existing one. It doesn't take very... More

Melbourne is full of little laneways. This one is worth a visit if you're into graffiti. Talented people!

Fun place to just walk and enjoy all the "Street Art!" Really interesting and very different art work by many different people! No need to be afraid of homeless people or people asking for money! Did not see a single inappropriate individual while visiting Hosier Lane! Well worth your time if you are interested in Street Art!!!!

If you're in the neighbourhood I recommend you to take a look. But it is not as exciting as I would have expected.

This street is quite impressive, colours everywhere and some cool graffiti paintings. It was funny to see that even the garbage containers were not safe and therefore fully painted. The art changes everyday, for example there was a picture of Movember so you know it's recent. I also saw an artist sketching for his next piece of art. When you're... More

It's really just two streets and its well located so you will have the time to get there and have a look. One of the few places in Melbourne where free artistic experimentation is allowed and welcomed. Not good enough? It will be painted over? Good enough? Well it will médio being painted over anyway! The pictures speak by themselves... More

The colours, the vibrant walls, the shoes in air, its a sight not to be missed. This would be a better choice to bring young kids (as compared to the ACDC lane.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
