Overview
More
The granite peaks of the You Yangs rise dramatically from the surrounding volcanic plains between Melbourne and Geelong. Although only 340 metres high, they dominate the landscape, and are clearly visible from as far away as the bay side of Melbourne and beyond. The park is popular for its magnificent views, birdlife and for bushwalks and picnics. Fantastic walking opportunities abound within the park, catering for all ages and abilities. Many of the walking tracks can be linked by management vehicle tracks to provide longer walks for the more enthusiastic. Dogs are welcome in the park but must be kept on a leash at all times. The You Yangs are great to take a scenic drive, horse ride or rock climb. It is also a fantastic park for mountain biking. It has two mountain biking areas with over 50 kilometres of exciting trails catering for riders of all ages and ability. There are several picnic areas throughout the park, many with wood fired barbeque places. Please bring your own wood. The main picnic areas provide gas barbeques free of charge and there are plenty of places to set up your own gas barbecue. The You Yangs Regional Park is 55km southwest of Melbourne CBD and 22km north of Geelong. Access to the park from the Princess Freeway is clearly signposted via Lara. The Park is open from 8.00am to 4.30pm year round and 8.00am to 6.00pm on weekends and public holidays during daylight savings.

I think the You Yangs is a really popular park for four main reasons: Visitors are allowed to take their dogs (on leash) throughout; even the track meant to be hard is pretty easy; there are some of the best mountain biking tracks closest to...More

If you like the outdoors and nice walks you should definitely visit the You Yangs. There is a little mountain you can climb with a lot of stairs and it is worth your time and energy. If you go there before the sunset you will...More

This place is gorgeous. About an hours drive from Melbourne, this it offers a good hike (but fairly strenuous, lots of steps) up the series of granite ridges that rise to 319m (Flinders Peak). We enjoyed exploring the rocks and parked ourselves on some of...More

We wanted to explore a bit and too a drive to You Yangs. It is very dry at the moment as reflected in the dry grass. The region is a lot drier than the Yarra Valley and Dandenongs, but has a beauty of its own....More

We had a wonderful day sighting Koala’s and Wallaby’s. Michael from walk about tours took us to this site. The two ladies that met us had presighted the animals and located them.

Amazing single track that covers all abilities. From the flat, fast sweeping corners of the Kurrajong plantation to the rocky ball breaking and sometimes frightening descents (and climbs) of the stockyards. Parking is free in both locations and track 14 joins the two parks together....More

Always a great visit. School summer holidays. Dad and primary-aged boys agree “let’s climb a mountain”. Free entry to You Yangs and car-parking half way up mount. Flinders Peak (1 hour return with steep walk up). Still some energy so back round road circuit to...More
