Fantastic 45km ride from Colac to Beech Forest, then Ferguson and return the following day (~55km). Well signed and easy to follow from Colac train station. Generally gently up and down, but some challenging sections scattered throughout. Lovely cafe in Gellibrand, and excellent breakfast spot in Ferguson. Limited accom options in Beech Forest.

Rode from Beech Forest down to Gellibrand and return. Some beautiful sections of trail in some lush Otways forest. Could be a bit different in the middle of winter. Being a rail trail the gradient is generally moderate so even the ride back up to Beech Forest was quite enjoyable. If you need to take a break along the route there are plenty of points of historical interest. Hardly met anyone else on the trail on a long weekend.

I was visiting from Perth and someone told me I should ride this trail. I borrowed my Dads Ute and nephews bike and drove to Gellibrand. This was one of the best experiences of my life. The trail follows an old rail way track. I had to stop over and over again taking photos of the brilliant scenery, birds, streams and crossings. It was an easy ride and could be hiked easily as well. I arrived at Beech Forrest about 2 hours later, very satisfied.
Then there was the bonus ride back to Gellibrand. I hadn’t realised I had been riding the previous 2 hours up a slight incline because I had been stopping so much. On the way back I was flying down the trails which was so much fun. I had a smile from ear to ear as it was just me and my God enjoying the experience. I rode this trail in October.

You'll ride on road, gravel, sand, pine needles, eucalyptus leaves, mud and sand. You'll have downhill, uphill, flat, easy and super difficult. It may be packed and you may ride it all alone. Beautiful forest or ugly harvested plantation. Cold or hot. The locals may be friendly or downright rude. But you'll never be bored on this trail.

This is one of the most scenic and enjoyable cycling tracks I have ever ridden in Victoria!! Not to be missed by nature lovers and cycling enthusiasts. Also suitable for families. We cycled the section from Beech Forest to Gellibrand. It took our family of four, including my little 6 year old about 2 hours to ride this 18.9 km section. It was mainly downhill through beautiful rolling green pastures, stunning beech forest, lush temperate rainforest, pine forest and new tree plantations. There were stunning views over the Otways at some points and little historical stopovers for photos at others. My kids both enjoyed this ride as there was plenty to see and the terrain was varied. We were lucky that my fit husband rode back to collect our car while we waited at the cafe in Gellibrand. The uphill ride back to the car would have been too taxing for our kids, but definitely doable for the experienced cyclist. Pack a raincoat/windbreaker though as it can get very chilly and prone to rain.
