Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went for a walk to Sandy bay for a coffee @ Sash, on the way back swung by the little beach by the rowing sheds and stayed around 1 hour. The sun was out, gorgeous view across the water and super entertaining with the chatty locals and 9 ruckus dogs battling it out for the ball prize. Probably my #1 thing in Hobart that day. :-)

Although the day was windy with occasional showers, we enjoyed walking along the waterfront boardwalk. Some brave souls were swimming off the beach - refreshingly chilly!
Toilets available. Playground for families. Seating to enjoy the view.

Our accommodation on Sandy Bay had a perfect view of the sea, and we could see Mount Wellington on a clear day. I was so excited when my family & I took walks around that area, & Mount Wellington was in full view. Shops were an easy walk from where we were, and most of the places of interest, eg. Sullivans Cove are just a walk away. Definitely recommend to stay around this area.

We stayed for two nights. The room was large and comfortable , 2 windows, fireplace and bathroom beautifully decorated in the period as is the whole manor. I loved the colours used throughout. There is a pleasant dining room overlooking the lovely well kept gardens continental style breakfast provided with a kitchen for quests to cook their breakfast if required. For me this gave a relaxed, friendly feel and gives a chance to meet other guests and share experiences and to learn about the history of the house from the very helpful hostess. There is also a comfortable sitting room with port and chocolates, something I have not seen in a while and very relaxing after our evening meal. Parking is in the grounds so convenient. We very much enjoyed our stay and highly recommend.

Hobart's Sandy Bay district contains lots of places to eat, have a coffee, shop and enjoy the passing traffic or people from all walks of life. It's easy to spend hours there looking around. Your choice of foods from Greek to French and Chinese will not disappopint.

Great place for a walk on the Derwent river edge. We visited the local shops to see what is on offer here. Discovered some really eclectic jewellery shops for a good browse. Yacht clubs and yachts everywhere on the way to Rest Point Casino. Pretty expensive upmarket area and there are some glorious houses with magnificent architecture from a bygone era everywhere. More a burb than mainstream Hobart and much more relaxing.

Sandy Bay is worth a visit especially to admire the lovely old houses and the view from some of the hills, if you're fit it's worth a walk around the streets to admire the plethora of old houses otherwise drive as it is very hilly. There are stores for picking up provisions, some shopping, some good cafes and restaurants - eat in or take away. Wrest Point Casino is a great place to take in a drink at the end of the day to admire the view over the Derwent River and admire the changing scenery as the sun sets. The bistro here is good value with very good fair. You can walk along the boardwalk from the casino and if you drive (or walk) a little further past Sandy Bay to the next suburb, there is another boardwalk beside the water where you pass by an old army battery, the walk around this whole area is very pretty. Definitely the place to purchase food if you're staying in a self contained apartment, Coles and Woolworths are here.

When I first visited sandy bay there was not much at all of interest. Being from Melbourne, I expect to be able to grab a coffee after 4pm and after paying plenty of money to stay at Merrebee's B&B the only thing that saved me was the little unassuming coffee shop and general store next door - Pa's pantry - general store. I spent most of my time in this coffee shop- it reminded me so much of home! Great coffee and of course the owners themselves were from my hometown! I hope the rest of sandy bay follow quit!

A variety of restaurants and cafes in area along with supermarkets and clothes shopping.
The red decker bus travels along Sandy Bay Road so a good opportunity to use the hop on hop off bus.
