About Gasworks Cellar Door
Unfortunately we’re not opening for tastings at the moment. However you can still try Tasmania’s wonderful cool-climate wines by purchasing them online at https://www.gasworkscellardoor.com.au/ to enjoy them at home. We’ll let you know when we’re back to normal trading hours. In the heart of Hobart's colourful dock precinct, you will embark on an exclusively Tasmanian wine experience at the Gasworks Cellar Door. With 16 Tasmanian wines always on tasting, a knowledgeable wine expert to guide you through the ever-changing labels, a stylish interior design, and fascinating information about the island's wines and history- this is no ordinary tasting experience. With its sandstone facade and tall brick chimney, it's clear that the Gasworks complex has an industrial past. The cylindrical gasometer tank that once stored coal-gas is gone, but this is the place where coal was burned to generate the gas that lit the streets of Hobart. The Cellar Door itself is located in the original Gasworks

My wife and I had a great time sampling 12 different Tasmanian wines between us. The guy who runs the place really knows his wines and does a great job of explaining them. A great way to explore the wines of Tasmania. Very efficient too.

Hello JMK-Pittsburgh, Thanks for your recent visit and for your review. It was a pleasure to be able to show you all the different wines and styles that we produce here in Tasmania. All the best during these difficult times with the COVID-19 virus gripping the world. Luckily we can ship anywhere in Australia (with some legal exceptions) and to most places internationally. Please let us know when you are coming back to Tassie and we can show you all the latest releases from the Apple Isle. Take care!

Having only a short time in Hobart we did not have time to visit the local vineyards. This is an excellent alternative. At the end of Macquarie Street they offer sixteen wines to taste which are changed regularly. On the day we visited they had seven whites, a rose, and eight reds. Your options for $10 are 12 tastes 20ml, 6 at 40ml or 3 at 80ml. My wife chose 3 whites - two Riesling and a Chardonnay while I tried the six Pinot Noir on offer. Ellly behind the bar was extremely helpful. If you like wine I suggest you put a couple of hours aside to visit here.

Hello Menzies13, Thank you very kindly for your review. By the sounds of things you certainly did have a great time. Elly is the perfect host; you will have to come back again as the wines that you tasted have now all changed. It is a dynamic way to properly experience Tasmanian wine all under one roof. Conveniently located just around the corner from Constitution Dock, we are only a short stroll to the city as well. We look forward to receiving you on your next visit to Hobart. Many thanks.

Garry was great recommending wines and showing which region they were from. Very knowledgeable and welcoming. Also, told us other restaurants and attractions to enjoy around the area. Was fantastic and highly recommend. Thank you!

This was my tourist attraction pick on my recent girls trip with friends. Garry was fantastic! Talked us through each wine we tasted and the region of Tassie it came from, his knowledge and kindness was second to none! Thank you for an amazing wine experience and for your local recommendations Garry!

This is a hidden gem we came across by accident, even though it was opposite our hotel. It pulls together wines from wineries from all around Tasmania, most of which don't have cellar door tastings. We were due to be at the airport at 2.30pm for our flights home after a great Tassie holiday and this facility only opens at 12 noon so we were pushed for time. But nevertheless we did have time to taste a great array of Tasmanian wines and listen to some expert comment from an experienced wine maker. On our ten day trip around Tassie we had visited many wineries and funnily enough, the best wines we had were at this tasting room and already my travelling friend has ordered and had delivered to his homr in Adelaide, a dozen of the wines we tasted.
