Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Hobart Urban Walk Friday 21st August.....Our Claremont College VET Tourism class walked the streets of old and new Hobart with our terrific tour guide John. His passion for this historic Australian city showed in his knowledge and presentation. A few favourite discoveries were 'ghost signs', the rivulet running through the city, learning the history of the historic buildings and getting tour guide tips along the way....
Thanks John and Hobart Historic Tours.

I did the Urban Hobart Walking Tour on my first morning in Hobart. It gave me a great introduction to the city, in addition to all sorts of hidden gems including buildings, signs, alleys, artwork and the rivulet, that I would have otherwise missed. The guide, John, was fantastic, and a treasure trove of history and interesting information. We covered some history, but also some general tales and events of the town. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a tour that isn't totally history based, but covers a bit of that, along with a good introduction to the city.

Maggie, the tour guide, is well worth her weight in gold for her knowledge on The Pub Tour. Her maps of then to now; the hidden buildings and historical facades that only her knowledge could reveal; the reason for one brand of beer at establishments; the historical brews; the beauty and majesty of The Hadley; plus the hedonistic delights of cocktails, piano playing and cocktail shaking characters along the way. I had so much fun I want to do the tour again because I know Maggie has more delights to offer in the Colonial City of Hobart.

Maggie was amazing. It was her passion of Hobart that made the tour. I can’t imagine what it would have been like for the first settlers and the hardship they endured. As Maggie explained the history you could picture what it was like 200 hundred years ago.

I was really glad we booked in to do this even though I was still recovering from a ankle injury! Jennifer Collins was our guide. She was knowledgeable and adaptable. She was good enough not to cancel even when it was just me plus 1 friend (other businesses would have). It was also raining (lightly). I enjoyed the walk and also the history/ knowledge and the diversity of places that we visited. Good job. Was a great thing to do pre-dinner.

I went on the old pub tour today. In a twist of faith a larger group of participant didn’t show up so I had the privilege of going on a private tour for one!

The tour is very well prepared with lots of photos and drawings from the past presented in a clear folder. Using the pictures, I could had a feel of what old Hobart used to look like and how it got to what it is today. The guide knows the information very well and it seems like the pub owners know her well too! We got a good view of the decor from the past at areas which are otherwise only open to patrons with bookings. We even managed to get into the buzzing Irish pub on at Patrick’s day!

If wanted, I was told that some patrons may opt for stopping midway to grab a drink. This is something I didn’t do being the only traveler on this tour...

Throughout the tour, the guide oozed with passion in sharing her knowledge of old Hobart. It was overall a very interactive, interesting and enjoyable tour. I do wish for this tour to be known to more people and have a higher rating at TripAdvisor.

The history of Hobart is wonderful, and the guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. However when he stopped to speak the traffic noise was so loud very little could be heard. The guide did not pick up the verbal clues when there was little interest in what he was saying.

Concept and content great, but delivery very poor.

Dear Andrew, We are very sorry to hear that the tour was below your expectations and thank you for clarifying that the issue was that you couldn't hear the guide properly. Generally speaking our guides use microphones for groups with more than 2 people, to ensure that everyone can hear. We are happy to look into this further if you could let us know what day you went on tour. You can reach me us on 03 6234 5550 or info@hobarthistorictours.com.au. Kind regards, Christina and the Hobart Historic Torus Team

Jenny was out guide on this walking tour and her knowledge of the history of Hobart was excellent. She certainly gave us an impression of what it would have been like for the first settlers be they free men or convicts. The buildings which had been built by convicts were in amazing condition, due to the climate of Hobart and it was good to see that so much of the original history is being cared for.

I had an unexpected free afternoon in Hobart after a cancelled meeting. I inquired about walking tours at the Travel Centre and booked into the 3 hour tour that includes both the historic centre and Battery Point. When I turned up at 2 at the Travel Centre I discovered I was on my own - a party of one.Roger was an experienced, engaging and knowledgeable guide who made the time fly, sharing all kinds of interesting stories and sights as we went. A great afternoon! Thanks Roger.

Our guide Bill was an epitome of knowledge. He had facts and figures on his tips. I really liked how we brought humour to the tour as well. He wasn't very rushed and all the sites we went to were within close proximity. I really liked how passionate he was towards what he did. Definitely recommend this tour and if you can get Bill as your guide you are having a super lucky day.
