We had a thoroughly enjoyable multi-day hike on Maria Island. Our very lovely guide, Lucy, provided a couple of different itinerary options and we decided as a group (of six) where we’d hike/the route we’d take each day.
Haunted Bay was gorgeous and well worth the steep climb to get there. We swam in Reidle Bay’s crystal blue water. There was a ridiculous amount of tame wildlife. (Kangaroos, wallabies, bandicoots, echidnas, and lots of wombats.) Darlington is picturesque and has layers of history. Painted Cliffs and Fossil Cliffs/quarry worth a side track.
Of note, the meals are not gourmet but they are served directly to your lap. The website reads; “Your meals are of fresh local produce with 3 course dinners.” however “Your 2-course meals will be simple, but filling.” would be a more accurate description. Our evening meals were pasta with a whiff of salmon, cheesy risotto, and BBQ (salads, snags, and burger patties). Lunches were tuna and cheese wraps. Desserts were excellent. Sampson’s signature morning tea/coffee in bed was highly appreciated. BYO tipple. The bagnum of wine was a good volume and minimised weight and rubbish.
A couple of the walks were very challenging in parts requiring greater than average fitness/dexterity and as there’s only one guide, there isn’t an option for the group to split into hikes for different fitness/injury levels.
There are no showers at French’s Farm. Darlington has one cold water outdoor (ie not private) shower.
The safari tents with stretcher beds were basic but cosy. Unfortunately we didn’t get to stay in the Penitentiary Cell in Darlington.
Four days seemed like a long time but on the ferry on the way home, we wished we were staying longer.
Thanks for a memorable and fun trip Lucy, Sampson, Jack, Ester, and Stan.

Thank you very much for your review. Yes, 4days do not seem enough time, but we are glad that you enjoyed your trip.

In January I marked my 50th birthday with a solo, guided Overland tour with Tasmanian Hikes.
It was perfect for me to circuit break my life and routine as a mum.
My guides were fantastic they allowed me the independence I needed to feel accomplished, and the support I needed to feel safe. Josh and Charlotte brought experience and humour with a maturity that respected the landscape and the surrounds.I loved getting to connect with my fellow travellers and the guides alike.
The group size was small which suited my needs to walk independently and have space for myself.
Tasmanian hikes are a brilliantly run company with personal touches that make you feel like they are invested in your experience.
The food was delicious, and all prepared lovingly to meet energy and nutrition requirements.
It may take me another 10 years before I embark on another adventure but I will not hesitate to book with Tasmanian Hikes.

Brilliant trip with Tasmanian Hikes on their Overland Track walk in Dec 2023z Communication was excellent in the lead up to the trip with Senna and Stan being so helpful and informative. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly, they added to the experience in such a memorable way. Both Fraser and Louie were extremely professional and their knowledge of the track was much appreciated. Food was excellent and nourishing, and it was lovely to finish the trip with a lunch with Senna. The guides catered to the needs of the group at all times and the sights on the track are unmatched. Memories to last a lifetime and Tas Hikes is highly recommended for a Tasmanian adventure!

We had a great experience with this guided hike on beautiful Maria Island despite a record downpour in the middle of it . Our two guides, Steve and Jack were excellent; resourceful and good humoured, and full of insights into the natural and cultural history of the island which made it come alive for us. The food they produced was wholesome and tasty, washed down with lovely local wine. The packs, sleeping bags etc provided were good quality. While our tents unfortunately leaked in the downpour Steve and Jack were able to set us up instead in one of the old farm buildings at the site enabling a dry sleep. A wonderful walk expertly guided which we thoroughly recommend.

Enjoyed a great experience completing The Overland Track with tour company Tasmanian Hikes. Organizing the tour during covid-19 uncertainty was easy thanks to the communication skills of Senna at head office.
Tasmanian Hikes provide a gear check to ensure equipment/clothing is suitable. Our guides were Benny and Paul. There professionalism and experience ensured our group of eight were safe and well informed at all times. Briefings on each days duration and terrain were extremely helpful. Tent and sleeping bag provided by Tasmanian Hikes were of the highest standard. The food was fantastic.

The views from the summits particularly Mt Jerusalem and Solomon’s Throne were incredible. We had excellent weather with no rain. Camping and the sunset at Dixon’s creek set amongst the pencil pines forest with majestic views of the Walls was spectacular. Other campsites along the rivers were always wonderful. A eerie misty early morning camp at Lake Adelaide was so beautiful.

After having an excellent trip walking the Overland Track with Tasmanian Hikes I wanted to return bringing with me members of The Bush Club.
Stan Ellerm was so helpful in customising a 6 day walk in The Walls of Jerusalem. As we were a larger group we were able to set up a base camp and do day walks in 2 alternating groups.
What a way to go with friends not having to worry about the logistics of food and equipment, even the meals were provided by the staff. We had excellent guides, Wes Moule with so much knowledge and information he was able to share with us, Stephan Hampnel previously a chef and caring fellow, and Keely Cooper with a degree in Yoga and Meditation.
Behind the scenes was Seena Ellerm who prepared snacks and meals with excellent taste and nutrition.

Just completed the Maria Island 3 night walk with Tasmania Hikes. Our guide was Stan and base support from Esther. We had four days of great weather, well supported and planned out. Plenty of local and historic insights and stops along the way. Stan very knowledgeable and experienced, even gave us a quiz on the last night to see how much information we could remember! No fuss, basic accommodation and simple food is provided, but very comfortable and no need to carry. The group was given a few options and the right balance of freedom of movement versus structured time was achieved. A great way to relax, meet others in a beautiful environment and take in amazing scenery in a stunning world heritage environment. Highly recommend.

We had an AMAZING holiday on the Overland Track, starting 17th Feb this year. We have so many happy memories and we both had a wonderful time, including the friendship, hiking experiences and amazing food Stan prepared each day for us. Big thank you! And of course the views and scenery was abdolutely stunning. We will always remember our Overland Track experience as a treasured and unique opportunity to visit a World Herirage area. Because of Stan's expertise, he could explain so many of the special features of the area. His knowkedge is outstanding. We would strongly recommend this unique holiday.

I was part of the group that walked in to the Walls of Jerusalem, in March 2020, just before the COVID19 virus put a stop to such activities. we were increadibly lucky with the weather, 5 days of sun, and the rain held off until our walk out on the last day.
The three guides we had were fantastic. I've not done a walk before where the guides provide the food, cook it, and clear it up. The food was excellent, and it meant that our packs could be a bit lighter, in that we didn't have to carry food or stoves or fuel, so could get by with a 15 kilo load on the steep walk in.
The camp site and the scenery on this walk are stunning. it is better in my view that the Overland Track, much less busy!

Can definitely recommend Maria Island full day hike with picnic lunch provided. We were picked up at hotel early and driven to the ferry. On Maria Island we had a guided walk, lunch, a stroll along the beach and wine and cheese before boarding the ferry back. Wonderful day.
