Perfect weather, great company, max. 11 people and excellent guide. We went to 4 wineries, Nandroya, John had prepared for our visit, cheese & fruit platter, very passionate about his winery and lifestyle, made very welcome.
Second winery, Cathedral Rock, the owners were passionate and informative, we all purchased more wine.
We had a very tasty lunch and cider tasting paddle at Willie Smith’s, very busy with people Saturday market and our group were enjoying ourselves. The Kate Hill winery disappointing, uncomfortable hot, limited seating, winemaker didn’t appear interested and the 6 wines tasted not good. Our next visit, Elsewhere Vineyard , owner Owen very informative, this large winery will become well known, major improvements taking place, great winery to visit, more bottles of wine purchased by our group. Back to Hobart to visit Bligh’s distillery, Fletcher our guide is a brewer there, more tasting beer and spirits. A great day, thank you Fletcher

Hi Margaret, thank you so much for your detailed review. We love that the majority of your day was great, and I'm sorry to hear about your KH winery experience. The Huon Valley is definitely an area to keep on your wine radar, there are already so many great vineyards there and there are some new cellar doors scheduled to come on line in the coming months to add to the great experience we want to offer. Cheers!

This was the best value wine tour we've been on (05/01/20). A knowledgeable guide brought the group together. We visited 5 wineries, each providing several distinctive wine samples. We enjoyed a good lunch and although we brought back some good wines at cellasr door prices there was no pressure to buy anything. We've done a few wine tours in Oz - Ageing Barrel is the best.

Brilliant! It certainly does help that we do have some very good hosts where we stop and some great wine...

We had an excellent day out stopping at both local and well known wineries. Ageing Barrel Tours was intimate, fun and highly good quality.. a good valued tour compared to some other wine tours I have been on in Tassie. Each winery was expecting our visit, it was well organised, no waiting around, and we experienced greatly personalised service from all winery hosts.
A big thank you to Sharon and Melissa for taking us out on the day, and Guarin for accommodating our needs including the facilitation of pickup/drop off from our accommodation where possible. My partner and I were very impressed and will be recommending Ageing Barrel Tours to all our family and friends!

We booked a Huon Valley Artisan Private Group Tour for 7.
The day was absolutely fantastic. Guarin picked us up from our accommodation, gave great commentary as we drove to all locations, and was well prepared with bottles of water and storage for everything we bought along the way. We visited 3 wineries, a cidery, a distillery and an artisan cheese factory. I organised this tour from NZ and the Ageing Barrel team were so helpful and accommodating. I would highly recommend this company!

"Garin" was our tour guide, and he lived up to the meaning of that interesting name. He was a fortress of knowledge and opened our eyes to so many fascinating insights and backstories about Hobart and its environs. From the top of Mt Wellington that Darwin climbed in 1836 to the funfilled distillery and winery experiences, it was a fantastic experience. Highly recommend this tour company and their salubrious transport vans

Firstly, Mel, our tour guide, was incredible. Highly informative and friendly; she has great knowledge of overall Tasmania, and gave us further recommendations for the Coal Valley area, and Beauty Point, all the way 3.5 hours up north.

The tour itself, incredible! Three wine cellar doors (Cathedral Rock, Kate Hill), an amazing lunch at the third, Home Hill (if it’s still on the menu, highly recommend the pork dish), then to Pagan cider distillery, and ending at Grandvewe. Cathedral Rock should also be visited for their homemade jams and sauces, and shoutout to Grandvewe, who make their spirits out of sheep’s whey, and also have cheeses and meats on offer.

Amazing tour with an easy pick-up, and with Mel able to make multiple drop-off stops. Not a basic wine tour. Highly recommend!

Thank you Josie for such a kind and comprehensive review. I'll make sure to let Mel know how great she made the day. It's great to see how much you enjoyed the variety of offerings the Huon Valley has to offer.

We went on the Huon Valley Wine tour today with Ageing Tours.

The Huon Valley was amazing the food was great. The Wineries and the owners were fabulous

What wasn’t great was our tour guide, was grumpy, bossy and his driving was awful, drove really fast, bogged the van and then instead of getting us to sit up in the winery we were left out in the pouring rain whilst a tractor had to be used to pull the van out. Yes we were given an umbrella but the rain was coming from every direction so we still got wet. Not to mention getting zapped by the electric fence when getting out of the van where it was bogged as was so close to fence and not told it was electric. My arm is still sore.
Will definitely use another wine tour company in the future.

We are so sorry you experienced this and this has not been something that has ever happened before which you will see from many other reviews, including for this guide. If you contact us directly we would like to make amends for your day.

One of the best wine tours we’ve experienced! Coal River Valley Tour. An extremely comfortable van, short travel distances between the wineries, lunch and a cheese tasting included! Couldn’t fault the value for money, and the knowledge that came with Garen! Highly recommend. Thanks Ageing Barrel Tours! 🥂

The drive Jack was awesome, the bus clean and prompt pick up. The cider stop was great and the food at Home Hill was excellent. BUT
Three of the 4 wineries visited, were unprepared for our arrival. We were rushed through while standing in the foyer or outside. 2 of the wineries were more than frugal with their samples and didn't give enough time to finish one before ready pouring the next. Jack took us on a detour to admire the Huon Valley, quote to fill in time. We were back in Hobart by 15.10 not the 16.30ish as advised.

We are sorry that this was the case - we always book days in advance of when will arrive at each of our chosen spots. I understand that lunch happened to be very quick service on this day (which is very unusual) and it may have put the rest of the day out of step. It's a rare occasion to finish so early. I'm not sure that sort of early finish has ever happened on that particular tour before.
