Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of our drivers on the Red Decker recommended that the arcade was worth a visit to see the Cat and Fiddle Clock. I was enjoying my coffee at Muffin Break when the cat played the fiddle and the cow jumped over the moon. Right on the hour - " hey, diddle, diddle the cat plays his fiddle, the cow jumps over the moon, the little dog laughs". There are various tenancies and a Myer store.

After 49 years I returned to this arcade for just one thing - the clock. As a kid I spent hours here watching it and it's great to see that after all this time kids still line up to watch it. Maybe it's just me, but I've travelled a fair bit and have never seen anything like it; certainly the best clock in Australia. The rest of the arcade is pretty much full of modern chain stores that are ho-hum; perhaps except the Coal River Farm shop, which is conveniently located right next to the clock on the upper level - grab a delicious chocolate and a nice coffee and sit at a table to kill the time and watch the clock. Bring out the kid in you and wait for the hour to tick over so you too can enjoy it. A simple pleasure of life.

Every hour a cat strums a fiddle and a cow jumps over the moon as your favourite children's nursery rhyme comes to life
The cat and the fiddle:
Hey diddle diddle
The cat and the fiddle
The cow jumped over the moon
The little dog laughed to see such fun
And the dish ran away with the spoon

Boring - you see and get the same things anywhere else - including the food. Do yourself a favour and dodge this & go down to Salamanca. There are plenty of other things to see and do when you visit Tasmania other than visit a rehashed arcade.

I have visited the Farm at Coal River and had a lovely afternoon. This review is about the pop-up shop in the Cat and Fiddle Arcade. It was my intention to purchase a selection of cheese to take to our friends on the Gold Coast. The person behind the counter was not informative, disinterested and unfriendly. One would imagine that the majority of customers at this pop up shop would be visitors, or in my case, hoping to showcase our amazing produce to interstate family and friends. Being short of time, I made a small purchase of 3 cheeses, but am now wishing I hadn't bothered. Please also note that one of the cheeses had only 3 days remaining before it was past it's use by date. This experience is the exact reason why our service industry in Tasmania gets a bad wrap. Totally disappointed.

THE CAT AND THE FIDDLE ARCADE
My very first visit to Hobart, Tasmania, gave me a wonderful opportunity to notice many lovely small scale conveniences. There were short walks along the beaches, parks that were enclosed for children’s safety, gas barbecue counters for public use, a small wood fired pizza place on the beach and lovely homes with filigree trimmings on their porches. If you get tired of shopping at the malls You can stop for lunch at this small food court at The Cat and the Fiddle Arcade to rest up and have a light lunch. Look up on the wall. There is mural with the cat and the fiddle along with the moon.
This was pre-lunch time for us so my sister, niece and I had a variety of muffins. Along with the regular sweet muffins, they had a savoury, spicy one with greens, onions and tomatoes. They also carried non-vegetarian dishes. There small one-person size pies and quiches.
This Arcade is easy for the seniors to navigate. I found it quite relaxing and manageable.

The cat and fiddle arcade has a vintage clock which plays the "Cat and Fiddle" nursery rhyme on the hour to the tune..and the characters move in time... including a cow which jumps over the moon... and a dish running away with the spoon... :) This is a very cute display and worth seeing... be aware that it may run slow... ours was 3 minutes past 11am.... so don't leave early!!!.... :)

I love the new look of The Cat and Fiddle Arcade in Hobart. I grew up in Hobart and have known this instituion all of my life. It's great to see the clock on the hour- and that the cat and fiddle still operates. It brought a tear to my eye. Very clean, modern- fantastic new shopping options, and lovely cafes to choose from and lunch options throughout. Highly recommended.

Watching the clock on the hour is the highlight of a visit to this arcade. Brings back so many childhood memories that I can now share with my grandchildren
