Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My son and I recently walked the Overland Track with Ben and Michael. It was a fabulous six days. What made it really special was the knowledge Ben and Michael shared about the track and the flora and fauna as we passed through some of the most spectacular forests and moors. They supplied fabulous gear which - true to their word - weighed not too much! It was great food and company and I'd recommend them to anyone wanting a guided experience.

We just finished an AMAZING six days on the Overland track and we all reckon this company was as close to perfect as you could get! Em and Michael were brilliant- they set a relaxed easy vibe, but they also inspired and encouraged our whole group to get to the top of both Cradle and Ossa. I never thought (at my age!) I would be able to do the peaks but they gave me the confidence to get there and the views were totally worth the pain!
It's a bit decadent having guides who not only carry all the food, but also cook it and serve you (yeah, really!). It allowed me to relax and enjoy the wilderness, as I knew everything was taken care of by Michael and Em.
They knew the trails and the swimming holes and the wildlife and the plants so well, all we had to do was drink it all in! a HUGE thanks Michael and Em and Ben-- keep catching those pancakes!

Every day was spectacular. Highlights include taking the road less travelled via Lake Adelaide, surviving some unexpected extreme weather , a clear day to climb Solomon’s Throne and no crowds, plus real/filtered coffee to kickstart each day

This is my second tour with Wilderness Expeditions and it was just as good. The guides are lovely and very knowledgeable so you get the best experience. We saw wombats and echidnas, swam in waterfalls and lakes and relaxed each night with great food and laughs. I highly recommend Ben and his team for expert guiding and a great experience of Tassie’s wilderness!

Ben was an exceptional host for ourJan 23 hike. Amazing meals, snacks and drinks on offer. Brilliant gear. Could not have completed this hike without Ben and Michael’s knowledge and skill.
Two very lovely individuals.
Lots of swimming, side trails, local plant knowledge and history of the area on offer.
This will be a journey I remember for the rest of my life.

The overland walk was a challenging but such a wonderful experience for a group of over 50 year olds! Ben and Zoe were fantastic tour guides and provided us with an experience we'll never forget. All equipment provided was excellent and of a high standard. For camp cooking, Ben's meals were way above our expectations.

What a memorable experience with Wilderness Expeditions on the Overland Track! I can't stop raving about this trip to everyone as Ben and Sean made my first multiday hike such an incredible experience. All the provided gears, as per their website, were of high quality, ultralight weight and withstood all the challenging weather conditions. Food was plenty with biscuits during walking breaks and desserts every evening. This trip is suitable for newbies and experienced hikers, solo travelers (like myself), family or a group of friends. You'll be with like-minded people.

What a fantastic trek. The whole team at Wilderness Expeditions were exceptional. We had Nick and Michael as our guides and Em taking us out on the last day. The gear they supply is top quality and light weight. The boys cooking skills are top notch, beautiful meals and plenty of it. We had all the weather except snow. Managed to summit Cradle Mountain on a magic day, not a breath of wind and views for miles.
The boys were very knowledgeable on all the flora and fauna and had a real botany lesson all the way, even had a couple of tassie devils scrapping near us late at night at Windemere.
Would happily book future treks with Ben and the team, no need to look elsewhere if you are considering the guided trips on offer.

The perfect way to experience the Overland Track! I have returned from a perfect 6 day hike with Wilderness Expeditions. They made the trip absolutely perfect. Their organisation before and during the hike, their vast knowledge and expertise, their humour and entertainment along the way made it so enjoyable. We carried our own clothes, sleeping bag and mattress, as well as half of a twin tent, however, the pack was surprisingly lighter than I expected. The excellent quality of the pack and tent meant they were perfect for the conditions, while still being super lightweight. My pack was only about 10-12kgs, including tent!
The guides carried the food for everyone, and managed to whip up spectacular dishes. Every meal we were pleasantly surprised with the quality and taste of the food, all made as one pot wonders, from things carried by the guides. I love food! Luckily it WAS NOT freeze dried food that tasted like cardboard, it was flavoursome meals that were very filling, often offering seconds if needed. But the meals were so filling, seconds weren’t often required. The guides were great, we knew we were in safe hands as their knowledge and expertise shone through the whole 6 days. Even though we slept in tents, we felt like we were pampered having all meals cooked and we were not allowed to help with cleaning up etc. Once at camp, the tent took 5 minutes to erect, then it was relaxing and enjoying the serenity while our hot delicious meals were being prepared. Staying in the tents made the experience feel more authentic, compared to spending twice as much to sleep in private cabins, we definitely felt like we experienced the true Overland Track.
Thank you to the fabulous Wilderness Expedition Guides, their dedication and commitment made this an experience I will never forget. We were a bunch of 6 women taking a chance to do something special for our 40th birthdays, and the guides handled everything so well that we now feel like experienced hikers.
If you are unsure of how you’d like to experience the Overland Track, take a risk and book it through Wilderness Expeditions and do the tent experience to add to the feeling of adventure and accomplishment. Not only will you save a huge amount of money, you will absolutely love it!

Hi, my partner and i are looking at doing the Overland track without a tour, later this year. We will be bringing a car but don't know how best to get back from Lake St. Claire to Cradle Mountain. I realise there are tour operators that charge through the nose but i'm wondering if anyone has any better suggestions? Alternatively if we have to go through the bus companies which one do you recommend and what is a reasonable price between these two locations?
Thanks!
It's about a 6.5 hr return drive from Launceston. There are so many operators now that there's a good chance you'll be on your own. Reasonable/

Bonjour,
je pars cet été en Autralie et voudrait vraiment faire l'Overland Track durant le moi de juillet aout !
Je voulais savoir s'il était possible de se joindre au départ à un groupe facilement ou s'il fallait mieux prévoir un guide dès maintenant ?

Hi we have booked to do the track from Feb.20-26th. We still haven't figured out how we can get to the start of the trek from Launceston and back from lake St. Clair. Are there regular buses or do we have to reserve something special?
Try the public bus services first (Tassielink & Redline) to see if your times work. Next best is any one of a number of transport charter companies. As a bunch, finding a group departing the same dates will
save $

Is it true that if you are self guided you cant sleep on the wooden platforms supplied, that they are reserved for groups? If So what else is out of bounds?
No. Group platforms are separate from the public platforms.
