This is really a must. The tour was well done- we got to really understand how a mine works and we got to participate in a little mining ourselves and even managed to walk away with some small bits of opal. Friendly and genuine tour guide !!

There are two other underground museums that are great too and easy to find but Toms is a real working mine! Excellent guided tour that was very well presented. See actual mining tools in action and get to learn how to use a divining rod. Plus look around an unused mine for your own Opals. Deb found two tiny ones.... More

We stopped in Cobber Pedy for a few nights and visited Tom's for alook at an actual working mine . The young lad that guided us through knew what he was talking about and kept the information flowing. Our son enjoyed it as he had a go at everything that was on offer. Very friendly environment.

Our 3 children loved this interactive tour. They were allowed to have a go at the machinery, they jack picked an opal seam underground and got to fossick above. Our guide was patient, informative and genuine.

A great self guided tour that you can walk through and take your time with - the diving rods are good and the uv light surprising - prepare yourself for the fossicking "noodling" afterwards as it's addictive! We were there 2 hours unplanned!

Wonderful tour explaining everything I wanted to learn about opals and mining. Included a live demonstration of various mechanical tools and machinery

Initially we tried to do a self-guided tour but I didn't feel I was able to explain sufficiently to my children the ins & outs of a working opal mine. And I was a bit lost down there - even using their map it was tricky to work out what was what. We had a medical appointment that clashed with... More

Really interesting to go into the different tunnels to see the workings of a mine and learn about the processes involved.
