My wife and I came here yesterday to get some cherries. This was the only orchard around Adelaide which was open for picking your own cherries. Apparently, due to bad weather or something earlier in the year many places seem to have not have as many cherries as in other years. As a first thing we had to get a bucket and pay the 5$ per person entrance fee. After that we where brought to the orchard and got a brief explanation where we could find which types of cherries. They have many different kinds with different levels of sweetness and different sizes. You can taste them fresh from the tree and then pick the ones you like. We decided to pick a mixture of different kinds of cherries that we liked. We picked cherries for about half an hour or maybe a bit longer and when our bucket was about half full we decided that this was enough. Finally, our cherries got weighed and we had to pay 14$/kg, which seems to be an OK price for this season.

We were blessed to be able to enjoy a box of wonderful Stella Creek cherries at Christmas. It was wonderful to hear that they sold out completely. So much hard work was rewarded. We will certainly be having more this year.

Stella Creek is one of a number of PYO cherry orchards located in Lenswood. After passing a number of cherry orchards with "no cherries" or "closed" signs, we were about to give up when we got to Stella Creek which also had a closed sign. The owner came out of the shed and told us we were welcome to try to find cherries on the trees although he thought they had been picked clean from the previous weekend. It costs $5 per person which is refunded if you pick 3 kgs of cherries. We did manage to get a couple of kilos of good sized cherries and only paid $8 a kilo. There's also cherry icecream for sale.
