Next door to the Magnificent Art Gallery lies the marvel that is the State Library of South Australia. So much to see here however the atmosphere wins the day here. Thankyou for a wonderful morning.

Well worth a visit, it's free and just really makes you appreciate the effort of books and people trying to preserve our past. Areas are still used by students

I haven't seen all of the library nor have I studied there so I can only comment on what I have seen - a fascinating exhibition of domestic architecture from the 1950s. Lots and lots of information and some great plans and images.

The State Library of SA was built between 1879- 1883 and before that The SA Institute Building the Mechanics Institute was used as a library. This is National Trust classified and the State Library is a State Heritage Place. There is a Robert Burns (1759-1786) and a Lord Florey Statue outside the library. The only complaint I would have that their is no Melbourne newspapers-only the Australian-no Herald Sun or Age. Melbourne State library has interstate newspapers!

The library is a must see - it doesn't take much time, just a quick walkthrough to appreciate the old architecture and feel like you're in a bygone era!

Went into the library to check out the very large Christmas tree, but the highlight of my entire trip to Adelaide was being able to pick up old books in this library, open them, and take in the smell of old books. Triggered great childhood memories!

The State Library of South Australia (SLSA) is a repository of the state's history. South Australia was developed under the Wakefield Scheme, which was a form of free enterprise colonisation. South Australia has a very interesting history which is well worth researching. The SLSA is located in a heritage building; if you want help finding something, ask the reference desk.

It looks like and feels like Australia's version of visiting the Book of Kells at Trinity College in Dublin. It is a beautiful place to see.
