    Not just paintings!
This is a well set out gallery. Each room has a theme with good explanations about the exhibits. It has examples of ceramics, sculpture (including a Rodin collection) and glass which relate to the theme in each room. The paintings are dominated by Australian pastoral scenes but there are also some European examples. The exhibits are well spaced out so that there are no overcrowding hot spots. Well worth visiting.

    Wonderful
Enjoyed all the sculptures and pieces on display. Took our time walking around and enjoying each gallery. It’s free entry and also has free guided tours at certain times. Staff are lovely and helpful.

Classics along with controversy. What an ART gallery should be like!
A beautiful gallery with a wide variety of art. Loved the ‘Reimagining the Renaissance’ area and was especially excited to see Priestess of Delphi by John Collier. This is one of my favourite works of art and it was such a treat to see it in real life and on my birthday! I do wish the gift shop sold large prints of it as I would have loved to purchase one. I have seen some reviews regarding the sculpture ‘We are all flesh’ by Belgian artist Berlinde De Bruyckere… yes, it is confronting and controversial but that comes with the territory when you expose yourself to art. Many people have said it’s no longer a child friendly gallery but in reality life is far more confronting and controversial. Art isn’t here to cuddle you softly to sleep, it should get a reaction. When a work of art shakes you, take the time to delve into it and learn from it. Sheltering the youth does nothing for the future. I thought this sculpture was eye opening, I loved it, I love that it wasn’t passive, I love that it was shocking and disturbing. What is art if it doesn’t get a reaction out of you? I think this is a very valuable piece. Besides, you can’t cry about this if you’re serving animal corpses on your kids dinner plate every night for dinner. Stop hiding behind disassociation. My only disappointment and the reason I didn’t give 5 stars, was there was a piece that did not have a plaque with its name or a QR code to get more information on. I did ask a staff member but his response was that he doesn’t know, it’s quite gory and if I look at the details I should be able to work it out. I did understand the concept but I would have loved to have the name of the work and artist to be able to learn more about it.

    PLEASANTLY SURPRISED!!!
Being from Sydney, I didn't think there would be galleries better than ours in other states but I was wrong! the Art Gallery Of South Australia would have to be better than any of the galleries that I have seen in Sydney. The gallery is completely free to enter, unless of course you are there for a paid exhibition and houses many amazing treasures. My friend and I spent well over an hour walking through the art gallery and looking at all of the beautiful works of art. I was pleasantly surprised to find a digital portrait of Lady Gaga in the museum, made this Little Monster very happy

On this occasion I saw (over two visits - this place, now that all sections are open, is big) Archie 100, Robert Wilson, Japanese pottery, and the rehung Australian galleries, as well as wandering through the International galleries which have not been rehung since I visited last year.
I enjoyed Archie 100, but I think you'd need to be an art nerd like me to enjoy it, it's quite academic. I enjoyed Robert Wilson too, it was weird, which I like. Japanese pottery was amazing for a free show.
If you can only assign this place a couple of hours, I'd recommend skipping the paid shows and just seeing the wonderful thematic International galleries (they're edgy, but art is meant to challenge!) and the Australian galleries which are now also thematic (they're not edgy, but are very charming, look out for the Clarice Beckett wall and the still lifes of local Nora Heysen).

I enjoyed my visit to the Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA). There are many rooms with a variety of exhibits. Their major temporary exhibit was "Taranthi: Festival of Contemporary Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Arts". I liked the Coiled Pandanus Baskets from Gunbalanya, NT. As part of Taranthi, they had a major exhibit of Vincent Namatjira's works. (He is the great-grandson of Albert Namatjira, a talented Aboriginal artist.) "Australia in Colour" showed 21 portraits of famous people, including a self-portrait of the artist. He had also created several interesting and unique portraits of the royal family.

North Terrace has the Art Gallery, State Museum, State Library and Parliament House and all are free. The Art Gallery of SA was built in 1867 and is a State Heritage Place. The William Bragg bust statue and Live of the Stars statue is in front. It has over 45,000 works of art and only the National Gallery of Victoria is larger. The University of Adelaide is also close by

This is a very big gallery! They have a wonderful and quite diverse collection but it is not curated that well...too chock full with not much thought into designing the specific galleries, in my opinion. Still, well worth the visit! The gift shop is small but has some wonderful items by local artists as well as the usual museum shop fare, and the people working in both the museum and the shop could not have been more helpful and pleasant. Definitely go!

As we entered the gallery dripping wet from the cold wet weather we were met by the most delightful lady offering help as to what we should see in the gallery. Her suggestions were perfect. The Archie 100 was fabulous and we learnt a lot about the history of the award and soaked in the beautiful portraits from over the past 100 years.
We also visited the Robert Wilson Gallery as well as the Yayoi Kusama exhibition which was fun
We stopped for lunch in the cafe which was in a lovely setting and our food was delicious. There are many exhibitions and something to stimulate everyone.
Well done to everyone involved in setting up and managing this excellent Gallery.
It was a pleasure to spend the afternoon there.

This gallery has one of Australia's best art collections, ranging from the colonial era to the present day. It has a good collection of Modernist artists. It also has some outstanding paintings by well-known artists with South Australian roots, such as Jeffrey Smart and Hans Heysen. I drop into the Art Gallery of South Australia every time I visit the Festival State. I'm always amazed at how wonderful the collection is.

This is one of my favorite art galleries in the world and I'm constantly amazed with the ease and elegance the curator puts together seemingly disjointed artworks to form something very special.

Yes we did check out the Kahlo exhibition and of course it was amazing and bursting with colour - you get to see what influenced Frida and Diego, see some of their artworks and even some of the colorful outfits Frida was so famous for.

But don't miss out on the rest of the galleries amazing collection, from the traditional to the modern and provocative, all put together in a very unique and thought provoking way. Such a beautiful place!

I didn't spend very long here. There is a comprehensive collection of contemporary and traditional art. Some lovely bronze work and abstract stuff (I loved the photos of the orange balls in the air and may have a go at recreating it). It would have been nice to know more about some of the exhibits rather than a curt statement of the name of the artist with date of birth and death. Conveniently right next to the South Australian museum.

A group of us went to the Art Gallery of South Australia to see the Clarice Beckett exhibition and it was truly worth it. The painting on display were just amazing. This woman was such a talented artist and her work was so sadly neglected for too long. The Art Gallery did a brilliant job of displaying the paintings, with enough space and light between them, that people didn't become too overwhelmed with the works. The different colours of the wall also managed to accentuate the paintings and not distract from them. The main gripe of our group was that the book of the exhibition was sold out (and had been for awhile). Apart form that, well done to the curator and all the staff involved.
