7 Day Eco Tour Flinders
I was looking forward to a much needed break-
We are well travelled nationally and internationally-
What we experienced was quite unique.
Our driver and Guide Steve was exceptional.
He cared,he was funny, he was highly skilled driver and he knew so much about our Journey and the special world we were travelling in.
It was a grass roots experience and I highly recommend.

We spent three days on this tour over the October long weekend. Alas, the vehicle we ended up in was a rattly old rental- the customized tour 4WD was out of action after hitting a kangaroo. Which I think you could honestly say- only in Australia.
There were so many charming things about this tour, it would be difficult to know where to start.
Firstly, Mick, our guide and the company owner, is a grizzled bush raconteur. he has been everywhere, is across everything, and has a thousand stories. He seems to be doing this job for the pleasure of it as much as anything else. he knows just enough, without knowing way too much, so as a passenger I was never bored. There was a diversity of ages, body types and primary language in our tour, and he made a fighting effort to ensure everyone's comfort.
Secondly, the resort we stayed in at Wilpenia Pound was gorgeous, and also co-owned by the local indigenous community. There was a welcome to country ceremony at night that, God help my cynical heart, drew me in and made me feel both tearful and respectful. There were options to camp or stay in the motel units, and we opted for the motel- this turned out to be a wise idea because heat, flies, critters, and noise. we were able to retreat at night and watch television rather than be rather too closely associated with the local wildlife. Having said that, we kept literally stumbling over kangaroos, who clearly didn't get the 'be afraid of people' memo as they hopped all over the resort.
The units were comfortable and extremely clean, without being way over the top in either quality or price- resounding box-tick from me.
The scenery was amazing- it has not rained to any extent in nearly eight years, and we saw every permutation of dry, from 'looks a little parched'', to ''My God, how can anything survive this?'dustbowls. Crazily, the land is crisscrossed with dry creek beds that have clearly seen some mega-floods in the past. Who could figure it?
And now for the only con- the flies. I dont know what they live on when they cant get tourist, but my mouth and nostrils seemed to send them into a frenzy'in the wilder areas, although the resort was fine. Invest in a hat with a net and you will have no regrets.
So- go on this tour. You will see some amazing scenery, hear some great stories, and have a great time in a part of the world that really has no parallel.

7 days of exploring South Australian's Flinders and the Outback, experiencing the ancient arid landscape, wilderness, dust storm, 50 degrees heat, locals and wildlife, just us two and Mick of 30 years' experience, not to forget his beloved and super comfortable Toyota 2007 Sahara, what more could we wish for?? We couldn't have understood any of the history, seen the desperation of drought, nor met the people who call it home, without going there ourselves. What a fantastic experience, we highly recommend it. Thanks, Mick for your professional package put together for me, and for attending to every detail for us 'older middle agers'! PS Read "The Crow Eaters" as a fabulous sum up of our journey - even recognise the locals quoted in it!

Flinders Ranges is well worth a visit. Beautiful rock formations, fossils, several Kangeroo species, including the shy rock wallaby, & emus. NOTE: this is a basic no frills tour with cost cutting where possible. Very surprised that our group was left to prepare our lunch & dinner with no support from guide (other than some washing up). Food thrown together from supermarket & deli. Veggie guests had little choice altho my gluten intolerant husband was catered for. Not expecting luxury but for this price we do expect more when on holiday. Ecotour needs to make this clear. Steve, our guide, was very knowledgable and conveyed his love of Flinders nature. Unfortunately he was not able to engage with people nor was he well organised. Accused our group of negative vibe, shouting & swearing at us when we complained about food & lack of utensils before stalking off. No apology. Never experienced such hostile behaviour and sadly it left us all feeling very uneasy. Another outburst followed on the second night towards an elderly lady who was in tears. Driving did not feel safe at 100-110 km in heavy vehicle. Glad to get back to Adelaide!

Been traveling in Australia, but almost merely in the majot cities, so it was time to see in someway the real Australia, the OUTBACK...and Flinders Range was on the meny.

I had a wonderful time with a gentlemen Mick, who had organised for me an spectacular 3 days...his knowlegde about the histories of aboriginal and Australia was awesome, but the informations about the different plans, trees etc blew me away. We had so much fun during the trip weather we having lunch in the bush, driving the whole Skytrek, or just joking about different things.

This was a start for me with SA Eco Tours, and I will use the company in my future trips to Downunder.

I sincerely recommend this company.

Kiitos Mick and Ben.

Kindest regards,

Ken ( from the land of Santa Claus, and NO, it is not in Sweden 😁)

Last time Lake Eyre flooded I promised myself that next time, I’d go. So last week I did just that, the Flinders Ranges and Lake Eyre tour. If you really want to see what outback SA is like, then this is the tour for you. A comfy 4WD vehicle and an extraordinarily knowledgeable driver/ guide is just the start. I saw landscapes unlike any I’ve ever seen, endangered animals in the wild (yellow-footed rock wallabies) wedge-tailed eagles, beautiful vegetation - I could go on and on, but it really was amazing. The accommodation at Wilpena Resort is spacious and comfy, the food delicious. Lunches were great picnics, and a pub and café meal. The flight over Lake Eyre is one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Most of the stunning landscape can only be seen from the air as it is either on private property or the terrain is impassable. We got a long flight and landed at William Creek for lunch at the famous pub.
There is an interesting mix of activities from the flight to walks along creeks, drives through gorges to wine tasting. Activities are wisely selected to match the interests and abilities of the group members, and the group is limited to six, so it is easygoing and friendly.
If you are addicted to your social media or your phone, be warned that there are places where there is no signal for phone or devices, that at Wilpena there is Wifi for guests in the lounge, reception, bar and restaurant, but the only phone reception at present is Telstra. At William Creek the only phone reception is Optus. But you’ll be busy enough, and maybe tired enough not to need either very often.
If you’re thinking of doing this kind of holiday, book now, you’ll have a great time.

I was picked up near where I was staying and the driver/guide was friendly and one felt one was going to get on with him and enjoy the tour. Due to a previous accident we were not able to use the stock 4WD but the modern rented van did not alter plans.
We were in for a long drive but time passed agreeably and our first stop was at an interesting township for lunch at a characterful pub. From then on we were in the wonderful countryside of the Flinders for our trip.
The trip was full of interesting stops, with chances to photograph and learn.
We stayed at Wilpena Pound. One could use all the facilities and the included meals (choices available) were really good. Prebooked sleeping arrangements included motel room, cabin or tent.
Two interesting morning walks, which if you are not fully mobile, could be a problem (6Ks woodland and 2K mostly rocky and up/downhill).
Every effort is made to enable one to see animals and this is great trip for those wanting an experience in the outback.

I had such an amazing time on this trip! The landscapes were gorgeous and I saw lots of cool native wildlife. Our guide was really knowledgeable and took us to some breathtaking off the beaten path locations. If you're looking for an alternative to the big tourist-y attractions in Australia, I highly recommend this one. It was intimate, informative, and unforgettable. We even caught sight of some of the rare yellow footed rock wallabies!

Fantastic way to experience the real Australian outback. Thrilled to see endangered yellow footed rock wallabies soaking up the sun on the rocks.
The accommodation was warm & comfortable despite the freezing night time temperatures.
I have been looking forward to seeing the world famous Wilpena Pound and was not disappointed. It was spectacular and our guide explained how the area was formed.
I also learnt a lot about the history of the area from the experienced guide with his knowledge of the local areas we covered.

I had an amazing experience with SA eco tours! Professional and knowledgeable tour guide, comfortable tents, and big delicious meals. Warren gorge, Flinders Ranges national park, Bunyeroo/brachina gorge scenic drives, stokes hill sunset, aboriginal culture/paintings, Clare Valley wine tasting, and plentiful wildlife are just a few of the highlights of the three day tour. I highly recommend and hope to be back!
