Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We recently travelled as a group to Clare Valley and was very pleasantly surprised with what we discovered. A beautiful town with a lot of history, lovely people and a lot to see.
As a group we had a tour organised for two days and pickup and drop off for three nights dinning with Clare Valley Tours. Dave Wilson was the perfect tour guide, nothing was too hard, no place was too far, wineries, art galleries, historic mansion and churches, Air show, museum, perfect dining, so we missed nothing. We flew in and discovered the most wonderful Aero club, clubrooms still under construction but no lack of hospitality and enthusiasm. Thank you Clare Valley we will definitely return with others.

My boyfriend and I came to Clare valley as a friend of ours said to go to tim Adams winery. As we like a glass of red most nights we thought we would include it in our tour of Australia. When we first went in we were helped by a really nice man who made us feel welcome, however he went to lunch and his replacement a blonde lady, did all she could to make us feel ill at ease. Sadly she clearly made the assumption we were only there for the free tasting, maybe because we're in our mid twenties. So due to her actions that's what inevitably happened, we left with nothing except a feeling of disappointment. We had planned to buy two bottles of wine but I just could not bring myself to give her any of my money. The rudest thing she did was to refuse to let us try a shiraz (which we had explained was our preferred wine) by asking if we wanted to sped $50 on a bottle of wine. What could I reply to that? No, as the truth is we didn't plan on spending that much on one bottle, however two bottles would have been at least $70 so if we liked it enough we would have just bought that one bottle.
Despite this horrible experience dampening our visit we did go on a lovely bike ride as there is plenty of designated cycle paths. But we will be sticking to Dan Murphys in the future for our wine as the service in there is always excellent.

One of the best relaxing few days I have ever had. Hidden gems and great wines and a huge pat on the back for the friendly and welcoming service in the area in general. Thank you.
One of the best hidden treasures is Evilo Estate, they have one of the best Olive Oils and Dukkah, home made jams and chutneys you will ever taste. Take a drive out to Brooks Lookout for a great view to the west.
Shut the Gate winery for a very good drop and tastings. Claymore wines for some more wines and good advice on what not to miss in the area. Tim Adams wines, Sevenhill Wines and the Beer at the Knappstien Brewery is to die for. Check it out for yourself and have a different designated driver each day. I Recommend 3 to 5 days in the area. Not a great deal for kids to do.
We stayed at Leasingham caravan park. A small quite park with great friendly service. Claymore cellar door is immediately next door. Was going to stay at Clare C'Van park but they put their prices up from $32 to $48, (no school holidays or long weekend) just for a powered site.

We recently stayed a couple of nights at a B & B on Spring Gully Road named Skilladene. A great relaxing experience! The cottage has 2 double beds and the fridge was stocked (overstocked??) with a great array of food and condiments. Alpacas to look at, bush trails to walk and birdsong every morning. And the big plus is the easy access to the wineries, fooderies and attractions of the Clare Valley. Will definitely be making a return trip.

The Clare Valley produces some of the best wine in Australia. Riesling is the speciality (try Grosset and Pike's), but they also produce a good Rose and Pinot Grigio, and the reds are not bod either. There are numerous places to eat, but from our limited experience, I would recommend Artisan Bistro for an evening meal, and lunch at O'Leary Walker, looking over the fields of grapes.

Spent 3 days on the Riesling Trail in the lovely Clare Valley during September. Stayed at St Helen's B n B, which we can highly recommend for comfort, quality and quantity of the cheese platter we ordered which came with a complimentary bottle of St Helen's own wine, and the terrific breakfast provisions supplied. St Helen's is right on the famous Riesling Trail, a gorgeous bike-ride or walk along what was once the old rail line. Flowering fruit trees and native Australian flora line the trail as well as wheat and canola fields, a beautiful sight in springtime! The many wineries dotting the route are all worth a visit and quite a few offer delicious meals as well. There is plenty of history in the region such as the divine Martindale Hall near Mintaro and old Bungaree Station to the north of Stanley. A must visit when in South Australia!

The Clare Valley is a little bit further out of Adelaide than the McLaren Vale or the Barossa. The area is just as beautiful and the wines are quite varied with some great rieslings. If you can stay the night then it would probably be better, otherwise you just need to get up a bit earlier to get out there.

very scenic rural area with just enough cafes, food options and charming towns to make it easy to tour. by far the best way to see the vineyards is via bicycle ! the old rail bed has been replaced with rails-to -trails system, this is relatively flat and well maintained. at least 8 vineyards are within striking distance of the trail, others a little ride off the main trail.
not many sleeping options, and the few nice lunch spots require reservations during holiday weeks. seven hills vineyard has great place to picnic, and has (older) bikes to hire.

Apart from some fantastic food and wine experiences around Clare, take the well-formed dirt Square Mile Road past the Golf Course heading north. Keep your eyes on the hills to the left and you might see kangaroos grazing in amongst the rocky outcrops. The 'real' Australia. Drop a note to me if you are lucky enough to see the kangaroos.

Over 72 hours I tasted about 80 different wines throughout the Clare Valley and discovered a place different to my expectations.
With the new road it's quicker and easier to drive from Adelaide: only a little longer than to the Barossa Valley. Possible to "do the Clare" in a long day, but better overnight and best over 3–7 days. In case you're afraid of getting bored, you can always go to the nearby Barossa, but you won't.
It's compact but densely packed with established and new wineries. The principal attractions are on or just off the single main road which is 15 minutes drive from one end to the other: you can't get lost. Otherwise, it's another 15 minutes at either extremity to the more far-flung wineries. Beware that TripAdvisor map directions are often wrong.
Wineries typically have an enormous tasting selection. I had to confine myself to 6 wines at each winery otherwise I exhausted my palate. It was quite normal to have 12 different wines available to taste, and sometimes more.
The tour at Sevenhill winery is full of history, agriculture, religion, and education. One of the better winery tours I have taken in the world. Bookings essential.
Some fine eating is available. Good quality food using local ingredients with professional and warm hospitality are typical of the more up-market eateries, and those attached to wineries. Consider breakfast, brunch, or lunch at Skillogalee and lunch or afternoon tea at Paulett Wines on Polish Hill. Dinner is at Seed in Clare town under chef Guy's loving hand.
Learn from my mistake and drop into the local tourism office on arrival. Talk to the friendly local staff who will efficiently steer you where you want to go. They remind me of the outstanding government tourism office in Queenstown New Zealand: impartial, knowledgeable, and committed to showing you a great time.
I went solo and had a blast. Go with friends and rejoice in the good life.
