Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a must do walk for visitors to Hamilton Island. It is suitable for people with a reasonable level of fitness and families with older children (though they might whine a bit on the steep hills).
The most challenging part of the walk is nearest the peak where the trail gets steep and there are several steps. But the 360 degree views from the top make the effort worthwhile. The islands of The Whitsundays are laid out before you as is the National Park and Hamilton Island's beaches and resort buildings.
I recommend walking in the early morning to avoid the heat later in the day. And if you can get up to the peak for sunrise so much the better.
The sandy path can be slippery especially coming down, so best to have shoes with a good tread

Great place for walking the trails. Spectacular scenery along the way and at the top. I found the hiking trails didn't take as long as suggested. Would suggest doing early in the day in the warmer months before it gets too hot. Take plenty of water. The scenery is well worth it.

It’s quite a steep climb in parts particularly at the start and took us around an hour to get to the top. The views from the viewing platform are impressive all the way over the Whitsunday Island. The day we went was cloudy and very windy, so we didn’t have the clearest view but it was still worth it.

A challenging walk, especially the never-ending steps (which are very professionally set in the pathway). So many views along the way but the extensive viewing platform at the top (complete with a "map" pointing out nearby islands) was one of the best we can ever recall. Stunning.

Sunrise hike is well worth it! We got up at 4.30am and set off from Reef View Hotel. It took us a little while to find the start of the trail but once on it it's easy to follow with some great views on the way as well as at the top. We were back down again at the hotel 6.35am, and that allowed for quite a while at the top taking lots of sunrise photos! It's not a difficult hike and anyone with a general level of fitness should be able to do it.

this walk was fantastic. I did this walk with my parents and they also enjoyed it. I consider myself to be fit, so the whole walk took me 2.5 hours to walk to the top and back - which included plenty of photo opportunities and drink breaks. There are two major inclines, one at the very start (where the road ends) and the last 200 metres like everyone says. Although it is labeled as a ‘challenging’ walk, if you are reasonably fit, you will be fine!
Make sure to bring a water bottle, wear sturdy footwear, I wore runners and it was fine, being a snack for the top of the walk, as you’ll want to spend ages up there because the view is breathtaking.
About 20 minutes before walking, it rained for about 5 minutes, and the track was dry within minutes due to the humidity.
Do participate in the walk before mid day/before it gets too hot. Bring a buddy to take pictures with you.
You can’t get lost as there is signage along the way. There is also a picnic table at the end of the route and at the half way point.
You’ll definitely want to have a dip in the ocean right after the hike!
if you’re from Melbourne, it’s very much like the 1000 steps as some areas have man made steps and other areas don’t.

Best hike on the island, moderately difficult which will test your cardio with all the steps. The view at the top makes it all worth it. They've added a lookout in recent years so not quite as natural photos as it used to be, but definitely safer.

The walk through Australian native coastal bush was invigorating and tested our fitness, with the paths being well maintained.
The view is completely worth it and a welcome place to recover, catch the breeze and take in your own tour of that area of the Whitsundays.
A photo map at the top identifies nearby island names and blurbs about each.
We took a shorter amount of time that what was mentioned (I think it said it would take an hour), however, if you do this to YOUR ability and fitness level, the view IS completely worth it!

Really enjoyed this walk of 2 hours return from the resort area. Even though we walked on a rainy day we had some stunning fleeting views at the top. It was exhilarating. Enjoyed the freshness of the bush in rain, the birds and plants along the way. Thoroughly recommend it. Need reasonable fitness as it is mostly up.

I’m not a fitness person so understandably was anxious about this walk. Worried I wouldn’t be able to make it after reading all the reviews about it being challenging. BUT I DID IT and it wasn’t as bad as I prepared for.
Tips:
Go slow, take breaks. There’s LOTS of stairs but they are a gradual climb. Take lots of water, you’ll need it. We made it to the top in 47 minutes. Use your phone torch as it will be dark when you leave, wear good joggers, it’s very rocky. It is a totally worth it when you reach the top. Breath taking views.
unfortunately for us, it was cloudy so there was no amazing sunrise but the climb up was worth it regardless. Then finished it off with a coffee and cafe Brekky at Marina cafe!

Would this be doable / suitable for a 3yo and 7month old?

Can I buggy all the way would love to see but have young children
Written 6 April 2019
Definitely not... No way a buggy would get up there... But the Quad Bike tours get a fair way up there...

How can I get there if I am not hiring buggy

Walk to the end of the beach where the track starts and go from there. Depending on where you leave from only adds around 1km if easy walking to the track
Written 6 April 2018
I think it took us an hour to get up there. We are young 30's, hubby is in better shape than me. There was definitely some sweating (a lot of sweating) and a few "we did this to us" moments. Some parts are steep and it was really hot. It was a bit quicker to get down!

If you are really fit and prepared for a steep stepped track at the end then it’s possible. I don’t think this 44 year unfit mummy could but if you want to and are fit it’s no harm setting off and having a go!
Written 17 April 2018
I notice the tracks are open sunrise to sunset, but a lot of people mentioning an early walk to see the sunrise. Does this mean you just go before it's officially opened? What time would you need to leave if you had average fitness?
Written 6 May 2016
The tracks are not gated so you can go any time. As soon as it is light enough to see where you are going. Would recommend 45 mins for the walk. In the summer months, I advise strongly as going as early as possible due to the high humidity\heat
