A very nice area to snorkel from the beach at Great Keppel Island. The walk down to the beach was a bit challenging but certainly worth it. Saw many types of colourful fish. Time your snorkel for mid-tide or slightly lower.

A nice sized beach. Not alot of shade if you wanted to stay the day. Good for exploring around the rocks at either end.

It is a good beach in Koppel Island but not really impressive for snorkeling. You have to swim to far to get a good place for snorkeling close to the coral.

Went snorkelling here. Say the coral and it was great. I had never been snorkelling before and thoroughly enjoyed the experience

My partner and I absolutely adore hiking, so we decided to see what Great Keppel Island (GKI) had to offer. There were so many trails to choose from, and due to our very short stay on the island, we only had time for the relatively easier trails in the south-western side of GKI. The map we were given was quite... More

Keppel is great to just relax. But if you want snorkeling the reef, Monkey Beach is the pick. Its best to walk the hour via Long Beach and back that way. So allow most of a day, take water and footwear. The direct route along the cliffs is somewhat shorter but very eroded.

We left pier one at Rosslyn Bay on the Freedom Fast Cat and took the 30 minute journey to GKI. Once ashore we walked Fishermans beach and took the short trail over the hill to Monkey beach ( not in flip flops or thongs) part of the trail can stretch the over 65's but take it slow and the rewards... So good to go around the island and find secret beached for a swim and BBQ hear is one I love just south of the old resort and warm enough to swim even in July.

We stayed on Keppel & this was one of the beaches recommended for snorkeling. I have seen coral reefs in a number of places in the Pacific and along the Australian coastline and this one was a bit disappointing. This reef is consistently flat (imagine coral like a carpet along the bottom about 60cm tall) but with no "bommies" it... More
