Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This one is really for the nature lover and is quite stunning. We saw fish in the silent stream as well beautiful bird life. The rangers have done a magnificent job of the walk and should be congratulated. There are clean toilets here and a lovely place for a picnic. Stop and listen and you cannot hear this stream running at all. Crazy!

The walk to Central Station through the Rain Forest is one you won’t forget in a hurry. The history behind Central Station is very interesting. I won’t spoil it. Go visit yourself it’s great.

Central station, hence named due to the central location of the island was is an old logging camp, although virtually all remnants are now gone.
There is a spectacular rainforest boardwalk which winds its way through the surrounding rainforest of palms, ferns, Kauri and Bunya pines and the crystal clear, Wanggoolba Creek.
There is also a designated picnic area. What better place to sit and relax with some lunch within such magnificent sights and sounds.
There is also the provision for tents and camper trailers here.

It's here you see the wonders of Fraser, tall trees and rainforest with a crystal clear stream meandering over sand. There's a camping ground here too. Fraser Island is 4WD only and all the roads are sand tracks.

It is nice to walk along the creek but it’s a tease that you can’t swim in it.
Trick for beginners if you’re driving yourself (not on a tour bus) the broad walk along the creek is a dead end not a loop, designed for the bus tourists to walk one direction then get picked up. So remember whatever you walk you need to walk back.

A stop here was part of our Fraser Explorer tour and we arrived there through the rain forest over very bumpy tracks for several kilometres before stopping at this abandoned wood felling station which was operational when this area was heavily into chopping down trees and exporting timber around the world. A whole community lived here and there are exhibits to show how day to day life was carried out.

It is not often you can’t take photographs of the water but it as so clear you couldn’t see the water in places. The boardwalk is a comfortable walk, and the surrounding sights are once again amazing.

We enjoyed this place. During the boardwalk walk we viewed a catfish, blue tongue lizard and the most pristine clear water flowing in a creek. The old trees and area were amazing.

We stayed for 4 nights at Central Station camp grounds, which is a fenced facility. We decided to stay here due to high dingo activity on the beach/open camp sites . Camp sites are allocated for vans, tents and walkers and were of ample sizes for our family of 4 to fit our large swags and 4x4 on. The rangers visit regularly, so remember to place your camping tag at your site for ease of viewing by rangers. Facilities were very clean and well maintained. Water is potable/drinkable. Make sure to take $2.00/shower and just a tip, wet and shampoo your hair etc with a little cold water, before popping your money in to wash out with hot water, as they only last 3 minutes. From Central we walked to Basin Lake, which seemed longer (one way) than the sign posted 2.8km, there is limited phone reception, so remember to take plenty of water (especially in the warmer months) and wear correct foot/head wear. On our return we headed to the logging station on a well maintained boardwalk, that wandered through the tranquil rain forest, before popping out at the logging station, where we enjoyed the rest of the day reading the information on the logging industry and remember to look up at the spectacular stag horns that adorn the trees. Great base to visit Lake Birrabean, Lake MacKenzie, the Pinnacles also. Enjoy!
