Impossible to inquire about this deal directly through the website what ever vehicle was selected, but also on the website were links to 4 car hire companies. I approached 3 of them advertising 4WD hire to get to West Point. I asked for 4WD. Sealink replied under the guises of one hire company but when I got the car booking it was with another car hire company. When we arrived at the car hire company we hadn’t write to to retrieve the car it was not a 4WD we were told none of the companies Sealink deals with offer a vehicle to get to West Point (so why was booking a 4WD to get to west point even on the Sealink Magnetic island website!). Car we got was 2WD, old and didn’t even have a working electronic key. In summary nothing was directly bookable on line, the whole process was very opaque with websites providing disinformation about being able to get to West Point. The deal offered multiple options for island access when there was really only one - no access to West Point

Today, my husband, adult daughter and I went on the Orpheus island Day trip from the Townsville SeaLink terminal. Each of us agreed, it was a wonderful day. The crew, from check in and on board were very polite, helpful and did their very best to ensure that everyone on board had a wonderful day. We cruised through past many beautiful Islands to Orpheus Island. Orpheus island was majestic, where we had the opportunity to snorkel in the clean blue water, with many beautiful colored fish, coral and even a stingray. The delicious morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea was very nice, as we enjoyed the view from the beach. Thank you very much to the Great staff for a Wonderful day. We highly recommend this day trip :)

We had an amazing time!
All the staff were amazing in and out of the water. Very attentive to all who were unfortunate to get sea sickness.
A beautiful lady helped my kids and I in the water until we were confident.
A young gentleman named fisher was the stand out, he was very friendly, helpful and full of knowledge and very passionate about his field of studies.

Booking the ferry online was easy, but I was disappointed that there was no seat reservation. This meant first in first served. We were told to be at the Ferry at least 20 minutes before boarding in case the Ferry was busy. As it was school holiday time, we panicked and ensured we were there at least 45 mins ahead of time. There was no need to do this on an early morning trip. On the return trip, the workman pushed into the line, which was disconcerting to me as I have a current mobility problem and use a walking stick. They were determined to be first in line and weren't concerned about anyone else. On the return trip, there was also a lot of luggage, and although passengers were asked to stay seated until the Ferry docked, those with large bags got up early and took over the exit. This was also a concern as I was sitting in a priority seat by the exit door and was frightened that I was going to be crushed by the luggage. I feel this needs better control especially to ensure older people and those with mobility concerns are not injured. Otherwise the Ferry was smooth and we enjoyed Magnetic Island.

Dear Wendy,
We are very disappointed to hear that you were dissatisfied with your experience onboard with us.
We always aim for the highest standards and take seriously the feedback of our valued customers.
Regrettably, we cannot always regulate the behaviour of passengers who may push in or stand up prematurely to retrieve their luggage. However, I have passed your feedback onto our Marine Operations team to communicate these concerns to the crew to strive to be more vigilant in managing passengers' behaviour.
Thank you again for your feedback.
Kind regards,
Cassie from SeaLink North Queensland

Excellent service departing on time for the 25 minute service across to Magnetic Island. Our return service was as good as the morning service, with the seas calm.

Hi there Stamptom,
Ahh you've discovered our secret! Half price tickets for Australian senior and concession card holders! It's great value and if you pair it a ferry and bus package it's even better value.
Thank you very much for your review and we wish you happy travels.

One of the best tours I've ever taken. We love the ocean, history and geography and this had it all. The big, refurbished ferry has plenty of space for the 70 or so guests. The trip over was easy, fast and very pleasant as you could sit at tables in the lower deck with drinks or go up the stairs for the view, the sun and dolphin watching! There were dolphins (2..), any number of big turtles below the cliffs at the lighthouse and even a marlin jumping! The ferry takes you slowly around to the ocean side of the Cape where the cliffs are well worth seeing and the ocean is deepest blue. At the moment it is still rather a slow business disembarking everyone,11 at a time onto Ray Boundy's barge to land on the beach but it will get better as the tour becomes more established. The barge and its crew are a good experience in itself! That's the other thing, the crew/guest ratio was terrific. I started out feeling a little hard-done by with the price (some $76 per adult, including reef tax for 2:30 to 7:00 pm) and ending up wondering how they could do it for the price. It was easy from boat to barge and barge to beach; plenty of helping hands and railings. The walk up the cement road from beach to the lighthouse on top of the hill is easy with a bit of effort when you're young; slow and steady with stops if you're not. The view half way up is a terrific excuse to catch your breath. It takes around 10-15 minutes depending on how often you stop for the views.
The original buildings on top are being slowly renovated but even seeing them in their present state is a walk down memory lane. The Boundys had provided tea/coffee and pikelets at the top for a small (restoration fund) donation or not. There were many knowledgeable people on the tour who had personal history with the lighthouse and were very generous with their time and experience.
To top it off 'Townsville Helicopters' was on site that day and 5-10 minute flights were available for a reasonable price. These mini flights were given rave reviews for the scenery and the fact that you loaded at the bottom of the hill and landed at the top virtually on the cliff. The trip back to Townsville was just as much fun. By then everyone was relaxed, thrilled with the tour, enjoying the free champagne (2 drink cards per person) and then the canapes came out! Quality finger food, lots of it and really friendly crew bringing tray after tray around to where we all stood or sat. Cleveland Bay at dusk coming back with storm clouds over Hervey's Range is special. Everyone on board sang 'Happy Birthday' for a young chap and I think we all disembarked with big smiles on our faces. Can't say 'Thank-You' enough to the Sealink and Boundy crew. They made it personal. They took us, having a memorable time, to be their responsibility, and they succeeded big time. ....We all saw the lighthouse flashing its light as we came back and it means a lot more to us now.

Fast and friendly service from the ticket sales to the ferry staff. Once onboard, the inside looked very comfortable and the a/c was pumping but we sat outside on the upper deck (which fills fast) to enjoy the view. Masks were still mandatory but crew happy to supply as needed. Ferry was clean, trip was smooth and fast to the island. Buses meet the ferry at the terminal and back on the mainland the route 200 bus is an easy way to get to and from city for those without a car.

Does the barge allow for low vehicles (Ford GT)? Just wondering if the entry and exit onto the barge is level ground? Can a Jet ski also be accommodated for?
Written 22 November 2015
Hi Lynchy,
Unfortunately SeaLink only offer a vehicle service on Kangaroo Island so we cannot help you with getting your vehicle to Magnetic Island where we carry passengers only - unless you are chasing car hire once there, then we definitely have the solutions for you. There is a different company in Townsville who transport cars called Fantasea. You would need to talk to them for sure about your concerns re the low clearance for your GT, as I imagine tides might be a big factor with the inclines etc. I believe they would be able to take your jet ski as well.
Good luck and if SeaLink can be of further assistance please don't hesitate to contact us again either via Trip Advisor or call 4726 0888.
Happy Travels!

Can I book an inclusive ferry and all-day Magnetic Island bus ticket, how much does it cost, and should I book it online or at the ferry terminal? I am an overseas visitor.
Written 9 July 2015
Hi aries22march,
Apologies for not replying to your message sooner, we've had some "technical difficulties" with our Trip Advisor account and I've just received your message. If you have not already travelled you can purchase your ferry and bus pass at the ferry terminal in Townsville. If you have already travelled, I do hope you had a fantastic time on Magnetic Island and that your holiday is a safe and memorable one.
Kindest regards
Narelle.
