Enjoy the secluded paradise of Magnetic Island, a tropical destination known for its quiet beaches, rugged landscape, and abundant wildlife. Easily accessible via the ferry from Townsville City, Magnetic Island is an idyllic place to get away even if just for a day. Board your boat at the ferry terminal and set off across the bay for a scenic ride to postcard-worthy Magnetic Island. With up to 18 trips and getting your there in 20 Minutes SeaLink provides the quickest link to Magnetic Island. Soon, you reach Magnetic Island, where the rest of the day is yours to do with as you please. Soak up the sun on the white-sand beach, go for a walk through the eucalyptus forest, or embark on a range of activities that include everything from snorkeling and hiking to visiting the Koala Village. When you're ready to return to Townsville, simply hop on the ferry for the ride back to the mainland.

Comfortable and easy way to access Magnetic Island. Both times I've been there was no delay it always left on time to and from the Island. The staff are all friendly and helpful at the travel desk and on the ferry.
I would suggest leaving some time to allow yourself to get on board if you haven't bought online tickets as car parking in busy times can be a bit of a walk + it is a $9.00 daily parking fee.
I would of rated it 5 Stars however in my opinion it is a bit pricey for tickets there is a small discount online. Overall it's a good way to get to the Island.

The safety and information videos of things to do on Magnetic Island, and back in Townsville, playing in the terminal and on board were great ways to spend your waiting time. Book online and get a discount. Or some services, such as the 6:15am are some times half price. Buses meet the ferry at both ends. I recommend getting to the terminal early if you want to be outside on the top deck as this is quite popular.

I can only imagine how much money they make by cramming hundreds of passengers on this ferry at 39 dollars per person. At that price I would expect more amenities on there and certainly I have caught other similar ferries around Australia for a fraction of that price. But it is fast, I’ll give it that.
Be sure to collect some booklets about magnetic island at the terminal or information center when you get there. They have useful maps and a list of attractions

We are sorry to hear that you found our services expensive. Our pricing policy is very similar to other ferry companies that operate locally and interstate and majority of our customer’s reviews state that we are great value for money.
Regarding passenger numbers, we never overload our vessels and always adhere to vessel capacities as the safety and comfort of our customers are our top priorities.
These school holidays were extremely busy, and well above our forecasted numbers for this period. Managing specific times when an unusually high volume of passengers are travelling outside our previously identified peak travel demands is challenging. Our passengers continue to enjoy the flexibility of being able to hop on any of our services but that does sometimes mean that some service can be extremely busy.
We take guest service and satisfaction very seriously and we are committed to continuous improvements to ensure our passengers have a pleasurable experience.

Easy, relaxed 20 minute journey each way. Comfortable seating on these vessels.

The staff at the terminals and onboard were good and the ferry was clean.
We booked the ferry and hire car option and it wasn't until we arrived at the Townsville terminal that we were told the hire car had to be picked up elsewhere than at the terminal on Magnetic Island. So we had a 15 minute walk to get the car and return it which was okay for us (70 year olds), but if your restricted in walking or it's raining you would have to catch a taxi (or get wet). I believe that information should be more available when booking. The people at MI car hire on the island were very nice and efficient.
My only other issue is the amenities at the Sealink terminal on Magnetic Island were filthy: a wobbling toilet, loose seat, no toilet paper coming from the dispenser, bits of paper and other rubbish on the floor etc.
Overall, we had a good time and would recommend the trip.

We take guest service and satisfaction very seriously. We are committed to continuous improvement and your feedback has been shared with management to address accordingly.
The Terminal Manager will advise all our sales staff to communicate the walking distance to MI Rentals for all future bookings. We have also sent your feedback to our contact at the Department of Transport & Main Roads (TMR) who manages the Nelly Bay Terminal. They will discuss your feedback with the contracted cleaners of the cleanliness of the toilets, even though they are cleaned twice a day sometimes the general public leave them in a poor condition at times.

What a wonderful experience! I travelled to Magnetic Island with my family for a well deserved holiday. From start to finish we had the time of our lives. The ferry was fast, clean, and fun! Special mention must go to Tom on the vessel Coolgaree Cat. He went above and beyond providing us with exceptional customer service. Great tips about North Queensland and some real comedic flair to top it off. Highly recommend Sealink. We cannot wait to be back!!

Does the barge allow for low vehicles (Ford GT)? Just wondering if the entry and exit onto the barge is level ground? Can a Jet ski also be accommodated for?

Hi Lynchy,
Unfortunately SeaLink only offer a vehicle service on Kangaroo Island so we cannot help you with getting your vehicle to Magnetic Island where we carry passengers only - unless you are chasing car hire once there, then we definitely have the solutions for you. There is a different company in Townsville who transport cars called Fantasea. You would need to talk to them for sure about your concerns re the low clearance for your GT, as I imagine tides might be a big factor with the inclines etc. I believe they would be able to take your jet ski as well.
