Description:

Billabong Sanctuary is Australia's best interactive wildlife experience....

Billabong Sanctuary is Australia's best interactive wildlife experience. There are interactive talks and feeding shows throughout the day commencing at 9:15 am. At these wildlife presentations you will learn all about the unique characteristics of Australia's native animals. The talks are not only informative but a lot of fun, so will have one of your best experiences at an Australian attraction. The native animals are displayed in their natural habitats of wetlands, eucalypt forest and rainforest. Highlights of the Sanctuary are holding a koala, hugging a wombat, hand feeding a cassowary, holding a small crocodile and wrapping a python around your neck. You will also be able to sit next to a dingo for a photo opportunity and watch feeding of giant estuarine or saltwater crocodiles. The wildlife presentations are repeated in the afternoons so nobody misses out. You can also return the following day with no extra charge. There are picnic areas with free gas barbecues or enjoy a meal at the Blinky Bill Cafe. You can also cool off in our tropically landscaped pool.

We went here as a shore excursion from a cruise and we absolutely loved it. This is not a zoo but more of a hands on interactive experience ( except with the crocs). We were able to pet a wombat, a koala, feed kangaroos and birds, hold a baby croc and snake and watch the crocs get fed! Those who... More

Even though we had travelled over 8000 kms by road, we had not seen one single wild animal. It was time to do something about it. In Alice Springs we had seen the snakes and reptiles but we wanted to see some of the other iconic Australian animals. The Billabong Sanctuary is only 17 km south of Townsville. There you... More

G'day etsija from Finland, At 8000 km, you would have seen more of Australia than most Aussies. Our native animals are hard to find, with kangaroos being most active at dusk which is when you want to be off the roads. The Billabong is the next best thing to seeing animals in the wild, as they are displayed in natural... More

The sanctuary was up there with my favourite activity. Great opportunity to have photos with local australian animals. Also crocodile shows and kangaroos running around the sanctuary.

Greetings Jaz, So pleased to hear you rate the Billabong as one of your favourite experiences here in Oz. The kangaroos are certainly one of the favourites of visitors to the Billabong. Over our 30'year history, we have generation after generation born at the Sanctuary and love being given a pat and being hand-fed. The joeys, while sticking their heads... More

We both visited the park from Germany a few days ago and it was a tremendous experience. The park wasn't crowded at all so we could enjoy everything. Once we arrived they even hold on to the koala photo session for us. Everything else in the park was super informative and we learned a lot. Even though the park is... More

We recently visited the Billabong Sanctuary whilst on holiday in Queensland and we were not disappointed. The animals talks were informative and the keepers were friendly and very knowledgeable. The crocs are fantastic but our families favourite were the family of Kangaroo's who run wild throughout the sanctuary. My daughter's loved being able to feed them, they are very friendly.... More

Really worth the trip down the Bruce Highway to visit Townsville's " tropical zoo". Billabong Sanctuary is very well set up with animal feeding – koalas, cassowaries, turtles and tame kangaroos lolloping around. There are lots of crocs – including one biggish saltie with one eye that had been captured on the beach in front of the Strand ! Also... More
