- Go3110606004410 contributionsSo much to do in one locationThe Strand has so much to do all along it, we loved the Rockpool the kids had a wonderful time and knew they were safe swimming in there. The large amount of playgrounds were a great hit and such a beautiful location to have a play at too. The splash water playground was a popular location, and loved the amount of tables and shade around and the different water play areas were fantastic for a free water playground.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 10 October 2023

An entire beach front of wide paths, beaches, landscaped gardens and parks and places to stop along the way. There are exercise areas, cafes, seating and sculptures dotted the entire length as well. A really lovely place for a stroll on a sunny day.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 June 2024

We had a taxi drop us at the Barracks then started our hour and a half walk through the shade of the large canopies of the beautiful trees.
The cafes are well placed along the way as refreshments were well needed along the way.
Gelato, fish and chips through to the larger dining spots, every taste is covered!
Stunning scenery out to sea, the well protected salt water pool, great for families. Further along is the statue of the Siren of the Sea, which imaginatively teaches about water temperature.
Then further along again are terrific water park ready to cool you off and burn some energy!
This is a must for all travellers alike.

The Strand is a fantastic locality BUT the electric scooters are a TOURIST RIPOFF
We paid $19.83 for 32 minutes use and covered only 5.28 km. Sadly there was 2 of us so the rental was just under $40.00. A taxi would be cheaper. These charges are a disgrace as the strand lends itself to the scooter use but the costs are prohibitive and explains why mostly the scooters lay around idle . Surely someone can fix this . Greg

After returning to Townsville after many years l had to walk all along the Strand. What a credit to Townsville, the landscaping, the murals, the parklands and water features are incredible, though leaving heaps of green space. Shade has been added by some magnificent trees. Such a beautiful walk and areas, try not to miss some time there. The Rock Pool and areas surrounding it are beautiful.

After a Tropical Cyclone washed away the beach, the Townsville Council developed 2 km of Beach Front into Parks, Lawn and a Water-Park. Families flock to "The Strand" it even has a running Waterfall just down from the Ice Cream Pallor. The Pier is a popular fishing spot for locals and the ONLY real issue is finding a car park. Did I mention that "The Strand" is 100% FREE!! The Beach is Patrolled and during Stinger Season the nets are used. I personally will try to get to "The Strand" at least weekly. As I love just sitting on either the grass or the sand, while I write. With Townsville Night Market held on the Strand Park, it is a true Townsville asset. You can even use a Scooter now instead of walking the path. The Trees are filled with Red Tailed Black Cockatoos.

Very busy with people soaking up the beautiful weather, all you need is on the Strand or nearby.
Walking/ running path with grassed areas, beaches or swimming pools, water park and exercise machines, eateries and bars, pubs and bottle shop, eat in or take away. Walking distance to ferries, cabs and Uber at hand, hire bikes, jets skies or canoes. Doesn’t matter if your old or young, fit or unfit, single, coupled or a family something for everybody here.
Great holiday destination with motels to suit all budgets.
Coles one street back to keep the budget in the black.
Excellent location, you'll keep coming back!

Fantastic green well tended area, such a difference from the outlying countryside which was dry and brown. The council must spend a lot of money to keep this pristine area in such great condition. Netted swimming areas safe for bathers.

The Strand is my favourite part of Townsville. The council has done an amazing job.
There is usually a beautiful breeze which makes it enjoyable even in summer.
The kids play grounds are great, lots of little cafes and restaurants and beautiful scenery out to magnetic island.

The walk along the strand lifts the mood. The view is fantastic giving the visitor a feeling of worth. The beautiful nature, everyone enjoying in their own way makes you feel happy as happiness is contagious. The blue waters, the green tree lines, the view of the magnetic island mountains and the length of the walk makes you do it everyday while you are there and makes you think you want to go there again. A totally enjoyable place for families, swimmers, walkers, sportsman basically for all walks of life.

So vibrant every day with people walking dogs, exercising, enjoying the water side cafe’s. Love the atmosphere! Both day and into the evening. I was lucky to visit during the Ephemera Art sculpture festival and the artwork was awesome.

Hi, We have one day to drive from Port Douglas to Airlie Beach. Can anyone recommend places to stop en-route for food, drink and a rest. We would also appreciate any pointers for 'must see' places that we would hate to miss. Many thanks.

A nice stop for exotic ice cream & light meals is the Frosty Mango, which is right on the Bruce Highway. A five minute drive south past the Frosty Mango is the turn off for Little Crystal Creek, and Big Crystal Creek.
I suggest Little Crystal Creek, which is an easy drive into the hinterland with the beautiful rock pools, easy access and facilities.
If you have time, call into Townsville and visit The Strand or find great food at The Brewery.

We will be visiting Townsville along our cruise route on the Azamara Quest. How easy is it to get to The Stand from our port? The excursions from our ship are pricey. Can we get to most of the Townsville attractions on our own relatively easily?

Hi Barbara B,
It is easy to walk from the port to The Strand albeit is time poor it would not cost much for a taxi.
