About
Capture a great overview of Townsville with a visit to Mount Stuart. Providing views overlooking the entire city and across to Magnetic Island and Cleveland Bay, Mount Stuart is a great way for visitors to get their bearings before further exploring Townsville North Queensland. Walk, run, ride or drive to the top of the 9km road, but if you plan to tackle it by foot ensure you have a good level of fitness and plenty of water as it is a steep climb in areas. Once you reach the top of Mount Stuart, enjoy the breezes, relax with a picnic, take in the views or further explore the short bush walks around the area.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My parents took me up here. It’s a long windy drive up and the lookout was full of people my parents age. Classic.
There is a view over Townsville and some information. You can walk around the perimeter and see the view from the other side. Wallabies all around.

Long winding road. Unless you walk/ hike up the view is obscured by trees, military fences and large electrical pylons. Difficult to get any reasonable views. Not sure where the Rotary lookout is/was? Disappointing 😏

If your into bush walking or mountain biking this might be the place to see. You can take several bush walks, or ride on mountain bike track, which ranges from beginners to advanced.

It's a little bit of a drive but defenitly worth it. Better than the mountain in town!
If you have a car have a look around here for a beautiful view.
But yeah its a mountain!

Winding narrow road to the top but what a view of the area around Townsville. Worth taking the drive.

This is the highest place to view Townsville and see the entire city. View Magnetic island in the distance as well as the University and Army Barracks at the base of the hill

You can walk if you want but driving is best, the mozzies will take yo uaway otherwise. Similiar to Castle hill lookout but a different perspective. Less fitness fanatics up there thanthe other lookout.

Went to the Mt Stuart lookout to watch the new years fireworks. It was a great place to go excellent views over Townsville city & not to many people up there. There were families having picnics & couples eating pizza but not crowded at all. If you happen to be in Townsville next new year I recommend Mt. Stuart Lookout as a good place to go away from the normal crowds.

A sign advising that Mount Stuart is a location to view butterflies - sadly we did not see any which was disappointing as I do love butterflies! However, the view was amazing - could see all the way to the sea or was it a bay? The rugged terrain meant one had to do a little bit of minor mountaineering to what I think used to be a bunker? (it is some sort of concrete structure with a history I think). We decided to negotiate a hiking pathway but this was too much for the 3 year old grandson so we abandoned the idea. Once again a magnificent view from the top of the mount and we loved the rugged rocks and the grass/trees. I think hikers would really enjoy a visit to this point.

accessible by car only, (well only the very fit would attempt to walk to top) once at the top, absolutly beautiful, 360 views of all Townsville, look out is breathaking, could spend all day up here just enjoying the silence of nature. Great all weathers but if it was cloudy could make the view look misty, A must visit place
