Today we joined the Raven Tours “Great Historical Hotel Tour”. Our hosts Rod and Cheryl were lots of fun and very informative. We visited a lot of Townsville hotels, some open and some closed. Lunch at the West End hotel was great and we were able to view the accommodation and balcony on the first floor. Our last stop was the Commonwealth Hotel which has improved out of sight since I was last there! Beautiful hotel and we also were able to visit the upstairs accommodation which is in amazing original condition. Highly recommended for a great day out! Excellent value for money.

What a wonderful Town to visit & explore. The lady of the shop is friendly & very helpful. There is heaps here to see & do.The History & stories of the town, the Mines & the people that came here are brilliant. You can do a self drive ,walk explore by an information sheet you can pick up at the Thorps Building. There is also a really great Booklet on the town to purchase for a small sum of $3.While in the Thorps Building have a look around it at the collectables & out the back as well.If your after a great Coffee then this is the place for it.There is also lovely Home Baked Scones,Biscuits & Cake to choose from.Enjoy & take your time to explore.

I really enjoyed learning about the gold mining history and seeing the Colonial buildings. The tour leader Rod was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He gave us comprehensive information and readily answered questions. He was flexible, enabling us to have a quick peek at Mingeula at the request of one of the group. His wife, Cheryl was kind and caring and ensured we had access to water, helping people off the bus, etc. Touchingly they had brought flowers to lay on the graves of several of the nuns who are buried in the Pioneer Cemetery. There is a lot to see in Ravenswood with quite a few well preserved buildings. We were also brought up to date with the future plans for this little town. It was wonderful to peek into the bedrooms of the two hotels to see the decor. Amazingly there is a flock of peacocks that roam around, what a thrill to see them. The herd of deer proved more elusive. It is vital that our history is not lost as it is what Australia is built upon. It is important that the younger generation get to see these places and therefore understand their roots. This is a great day out. Watching the countryside unfold and the treasures of this little gem revealed was a total delight. I totally recommend this tour to Ravenswood.

These are the only tours I found operating out of Townsville to nearby locations such as Ingham, Ravenswood, Charters Towers, Waterfalls etc Packed full of places to see and food to sample, the food & wine tour takes you to small unexpected places of real value and offers bargains for any participant keen to buy a food bargain. I am sure the other offered tours would also provide value for money.
