Visit the Gold Coast City Gallery and come away feeling inspired and uplifted. We host over 20 local, national and international exhibitions each year in our three Gallery spaces, so there's always something new and fresh to see. Gold Coast City Gallery is one of Australia's most prominent public regional Galleries and serves a large population of approximately 500,000. Opened in 1986, the Gallery is funded by City of Gold Coast as part of The Arts Centre Gold Coast. The Gallery houses the renowned City Collection of contemporary and historical artworks documenting the character of the Gold Coast as well as the development of Australian art practice. The Gallery presents a diverse and dynamic program of exhibitions and events. These include local, national and international exhibitions that are generated by the Gallery or displayed as part of a touring schedule. The Gallery is also home to one of Australia's longest running art prizes, previously titled the Stan & Maureen Duke Gold Coast Art Prize, it is now proudly supported by The Arts Centre Benefactor Program and called the Gold Coast Art Prize. Since 1968, the annual prize has provided an exciting survey of contemporary Australian Art. It is the Gallery's mission to continue to provide high-quality exhibitions and events for the people of the Gold Coast and to promote and encourage broader participation in the visual arts.

Gold Coasters don't realise the gem they have right in the heart of the city. The Gallery hosts many and varied shows and one will find something happening at all times, worth a visit then have a lovely meal at the cafe and maybe take in a movie at the cinema all in the same complex, just go.

We were kicking around Surfers Paradise a couple of weeks ago with some time to spare on a less than stellar day weather-wise so we were doing inside things including the Gold Coast Art Gallery. Having lived in the area for about a year back in 2005/06 I am kicking myself a bit that I never discovered this place before.... More

The Gallery is located in what passes for the performing arts centre on the Gold Coast. Despite its relatively small collection there's always something interesting to view and there are frequent exhibitions of art for sale. The price catalogues are handy and will steer you in the direction you wish to take. It is wheelchair friendly, as is the whole... More

Really not an art gallery in an international sense, small display area squeezed into multi purpose venue. All about to change with purpose built gallery on drawing boards. If only limited time visiting the Coast would not recommend a visit given all the other attractions you can visit.

For those who want to enjoy an arts and cultural experience the Gold Coast Art Gallery and Arts Centre is the first place to go. Good spot. Nice food - pies, muffins, pastas, Vietnamese prawn rolls, Caesar salads, and so on. Great to go for a bite when seeing something at the gallery. Parking is easy. It will be even better when they revamp the buildings so you can face the water.

We visited the gallery recently to check out an exhibition. I was disappointed with the exhibition - for one thing there were far too many works jammed in. Perhaps less walk around space and more hanging area would work but it was impossible to appreciate any of the better art works and the groupings seemed to be all wrong. I... More

We visited the gallery recently but I guess it depends on the genre of art which interests you. We didn't find it very exciting. However there is a comfortable movie theatre there and the centre and a cafe in the precinct.
