About
Nestled within the Botanic Gardens, Rockhampton Zoo has been at its present site since 1925. While the animal section at that time consisted of monkeys, cassowary, possums, guinea pigs and pea fowl, today you can discover more than 60 species of Australian and exotic animals. Whether it is chimpanzees and cassowaries, dingoes and otters, or crocodiles and koalas, there are an array of fascinating animals to meet and observe in their carefully recreated habitats. Local tip: Time your visit with one of the many daily feeding sessions throughout the Zoo for a more up close and personal experience.

We loved the zoo, and thoroughly enjoyed our morning there. I was disappointed with the new cage for the eagle.

A really enjoyable morning exploring the Zoo. The layout provides good flow and excellent vantage points to view the residents. All appear healthy, happy and well cared for. We saw some of our extended family along with many other locals.

Visiting Rocky from Melbourne we
took a look at the zoo had a nice day but a lot of the exabititions were being upgraded so not a lot of animals to see. Enjoyed the free admission and it's a credit to the community of Rockhampton to have such a wonderful tourist attraction.

Fantastic small zoo, free entry was a bonus. Must see for families. Local council run and we saw many local families enjoying the zoo.

This little zoo is fabulous! A few different animals to see and interact with. This is a free zoo but well-maintained spaces, enclosures and the animals looked happy. We really enjoyed our visit. Whilst it is free we made a donation to help with animal conservation.

after the gardens i went next door to the zoo at 9.30(opening in info at 9am)
it wasn't opened as the animals were still in there pens and the staff were cleaning up others and myself were just pacing, just about 10ish the 3 roos & 2 emus opened and then the meerkats but nothing else so i left aprox 10.30am
I understand there was a heat wave but it should have warning
The south side travel park said a 19 min walk to the garden and zoo but misinfo as i had to get a taxi and took longer than 19mins & it is up 2 big hills off the freeway

This was absolutely amazing in EVERY way. The animals looked healthy and happy. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. It was an incredible visit for our three young kids - absolutely a "must-do" in Rockhampton. I can't believe it's free.

Loved this zoo, easy walk around the tropical gardens. Plenty of animals to see, we enjoyed the chimps and gibbons.

A great little zoo with some great animals. The highlights would be Valkyrie the wedge tailed eagle, the chimps and the meerkats. The keeper talk at feeding time for Valkyrie was excellent. Good free fun for the family.

A visit to Rockhampton Zoo is a must do if you're staying in Rocky or even just passing through. It is also free to enter. Lots of exhibits and talks by knowledgeable staff.
