There is nothing else quite like Flames in the Forest. It’s a must do. Stunning visually. Moving spiritually and culturally. Fabulous canapés, drinks and dining. No fine dining restaurant can offer this incredible experience. Do it!

What an incredible experience. The food abundance atmosphere was fantastic and a once in a lifetime experience. It bles us away. We are vegeterian and Vegan and they catered for us, no problems. Unlimited drinks too. Highly recommend. Staff also brilliant. The transport to and from was also very handy!

This was a magical experience for our family! There are several courses of food, and all were delicious. Drinks alcoholic and non-alcoholic flowed freely. The candles and other lighting really set a dramatic scene. And the didgeridoo and storytelling were fascinating and well done. A great evening if you’re here on a Thursday!

Wonderful night, loved the whole experience, even though it was raining slightly. The cover kept us dry, although the walk through the bush wasn't covered. (It would have spoilt the atmosphere, with all the fairy lights in the trees). Our meal was good.

After entering through lights adoring the low and tall trees, our hosts put on a show telling cultural stories and didgeridoo playing. There were enough breaks that were adequate in which to serve the food platters, and there was sufficient of each dish for everyone on our table. The ambience, entertainment, learning and food all made up a fantastic evening.

My husband and I finally went to Flames of the Forest last night and LOVED it! We live not far from the venue and have always wanted to go but for various reasons it hadn’t happened till now. The food was amazing, the surroundings are beautiful and the whole experience was really special including fantastic service from the staff. We were picked up at our front gate on a shuttle bus for the short trip up the road (we both wanted to enjoy a few glasses of wine and not drive). The atmosphere on the bus was already one of celebration with the other passengers all chatting and laughing happily. A local Indigenous man speaking Kuku Yalanji led us on a magical short walk through a fairy lit pathway while another man played didgeridoo (I have driven past this spot in the day time and had no idea what a hidden jewel was up that pathway) we were greeted with a glass of champagne. Everyone was sipping and chatting as some delicious trays of canapés were brought around to us. We then took a seat at one of several tables set up for group dining. We were on a table with two other couples and really enjoyed meeting them and chatting through the night. Our guide ‘Gary’ (he told us his language name but said he also goes by Gary - much easier for us to get our tongue around) spoke of the history of the place and how his people honoured that which had come before. In my words (wine memory 😂) he spoke of the importance of understanding what came before before moving forward to what comes next. He spoke of childhood and storytelling and the importance of storytelling to Aboriginal culture. He was easy to hear and understand (I have hearing loss so this is important to me) and his personality was perfect for the role. Gary would speak between courses so while we were eating, we had opportunity to chat with the others on our table. I thought the balance of story telling and space for dining and chatting was perfect. The staff were super attentive and our glass was never empty (hence the wine memory… 😊) We will definitely be recommending the experience to our friends. Thank you so much for a great night 😊

We were looking forward to this “Aboriginal Cultural Experience,” and the setting was beautiful, but we were sadly disappointed that the story-telling time was so brief. There was an interlude with a bit of didgeridoo playing and a very short story told at the end of the meal, all by one person, who could have used better lighting and a microphone. I was surprised, given the way this experience is described. I did not choose it for the food, but it seems that was supposed to be the focus of the night. If that is the case, the food was fine but not amazing, and the chairs were uncomfortable. I would rather have my own portion served to me than to do “family style” platters. Again, I would have hardly noticed that if there had been more than a few minutes of story telling during a 3 hour dinner. I do not think it was worth the $450 for 2 people.

This was dinner on the first night of our APT Tour to the Top End and it was a great way to start. Setup in the forest just outside of Port Douglas is a magical fairy land of lights and the entertainment and stories are marvelous, told with insight and humor it is very entertaining. The food was great too, even the Kangaroo I went back for seconds and I don't usually like Kangaroo!

I can't recommend this enough, if you are in the Port Douglas area then this is one experience you should do.

I am so glad that I chose to ignore the negative comments about this experience. From the time of collection to the time I was dropped off I had the most amazing experience.

I chose to do the aboriginal dining experience and I was not disappointed. The food was incredible the service was amazing and the venue was mystical. From the flame lit pathways to the haunting sounds of the rain forest it was just incredible.

It was a great experience from the beginning. Great music, beautiful/romantic atmosphere.
Only thing negative about the whole experience was a few of the five course meal. The Lamb and the fish were overcooked, tough and dry. The prawn tortellini was a bit too salty.

Still I'd recommend it.

Hi Iddawela, We are so dissapointed to hear you didn't enjoy your whole meal. We have passed along your feedback to the chefs. We are thrilled you think highly of the whole experience.
