This is one of my favourite wildlife parks. Great variety of animals, great habitats and enclosures. We went twice during our stay (free re-entry in 4 days). I love hand-feeding the kangaroos, and I love how the birds are interactive. Loved cheeky Max sitting on my shoulder. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful, made us feel welcome :-)

We had a fabulous time at Wildlife Habitat. Swim with the Salties was incredible and the staff were very friendly. A great way to spend the day with family. Well worth a visit when you visit FNQ.

My daughter has left the wildlife habitat with several scratches on the front and back of her body from the second largest male kangaroo we identified in the habitat. This hungry, approx 120cm male kangaroo was fighting for food amongst other males before jumping on my 130cm tall daughter who was carrying a bag of food. We were not simply followed by some super friendly kangaroos keen for interaction, we struggled to get in the gate of the savannah as several kangaroos and Wallabies came jumping over before we even entered, presumably because they heard the paper bag and smelt the pellets from a distance. We then entered through an alternative gate and quite quickly were met by at least 15-20 animals, including an emu, all crowding the four of us (including my two yr old who was thankfully in my arms rather than her pram). We tried to get away from them and over to a man with his son, but they didn't take long to realise that we were the only ones with food and we were literally mobbed again. This was when my daughter had the large male come up behind her trying to jump, with forearms over her shoulders, scratching her chest, upper back and using one of his hind feet to kick her lower back. She was pushed forward and screamed when this happened. I tried to quickly get her through the crocodile stand gates away from the kangaroos. I was looking at her scratches and the marks on her back when the two male keepers came towards us, presumably to check on her because they heard her screaming, but it seemed they were simply on their way to attend to something in the crocodile exhibit. I had to stop the younger of the two men to ask him to look at my daughter's scratches so that he was aware that it was not an overreaction and he asked which kangaroo it was and told me to report it to the front office as they track these behaviours to determine the suitability of different animals to be in the environment where they can be hand fed. When my daughter had calmed down, we tried to leave the savannah but again had the same problem of being mobbed by kangaroos so I had to rush my children ahead with my mother so that I could stay to distract the animals with the food so they could get out unscathed. The two male keepers walked ahead and made no attempt to help us.
When I reported this incident to the lady at the front desk, she was equally dismissive hoping to end the conversation by offering antiseptic cream rather than addressing my concerns regarding animal behaviour and the safety of any children in that environment given the nature of the kangaroos. Likely could have been avoided by monitoring feeding habits and adjusting according to the frequency of visitors buying 'roo-food' but management dismiss as an unfortunate experience!

Hi Laura, Again, thank you for writing to us and providing detail around what occurred with your interactions at the park with regard to both wildlife and staff response. I am sorry that your experience was not positive and that your daughter sustained scratches. Having children myself, I understand how distressing this can be, and appreciate you raising it so as we can manage the problem. It seems that on the day the maintenance and reception staff you spoke with did not fully recognise your concerns until you provided further detail to me. This has been addressed directly with the team to ensure that possible future incidents are dealt with better. Whilst we hold the welfare of animals with the utmost importance and endeavour to provide the best environment for our animals to thrive daily, we also strive to create positive interactive experiences for our guests in order to create relationships between people and animals. With an ultimate goal of fulfilling our motto “Through observation comes appreciation, through appreciation comes conservation." We acknowledge at times that animal behaviour can be unpredictable and apologise for your experience. I very much hope that your daughter is well and that she will still enjoy her wildlife interactions into the future, as she has done in the past. Kind Regards, Clare Anderson General Manager

This is by far one of the best Wildlife Sanctuary's we have ever visited, so immersive and interactive. I don't think there was anything we missed; croc shows, bird shows, swimming with Big Al (he is an incredible addition to the park, well done!), feeding the roos, koala's or just chilling with Elvis and his birdie friends with an nice cold beer.

Thanks to the wonderful team at the park that made the experience exceptional from the moment we entered right to the end. Your passion and hospitality shows in all you do.

Thank you Clare, your brilliant team and the Woodward family!! - We look forward to our next visit!

Special shout out to Luca(I think was his name) He handled my booking and was very excited to be there, very welcoming and made our experience all the better.

We did a private tour and spent some quality time with the kolas. Such a knowledgeable guide and all the team were very friendly and accomodating. Had the most amazing fish and chips, so much food and tasted awesome. Had a cockatoo sitting in my shoulder while eating, the whole experience was amazing and as adults we enjoyed the private tour where we could learn about the different animals and appreciate all the hard work that goes into maintaining this wonderful place. Loved the new crocodile enclosure and would definitely swim with the salties next time. Couldnt recommend it highly enough, we thoroughly enjoyed huge experience.

A surprising gem of a wildlife habitat. It is well laid out with ample opportunity to see a range of animals, especially birds in the extensive aviary. I got to see a tree kangaroo and some cassowaries which are endemic to the area but have proved elusive on my tours of the Daintree. The cafe is in the aviary and I had a yellow-tailed cockatoo sitting at the next table and chatting to me during lunch. I watched the feeding of the crocodiles and heard the awesome sound of the closing jaws. Well worth a visit. The admission ticket allows entry over a few days so you can pop back for animal feeding of time permits.
