On a recommendation from our resort just outside Port Douglas, we booked a full day tour of the Daintree Rainforest with Daintree Safaris. We were picked up at our resort by the owner and operator, Nicholas, in a large, comfortable Toyota Landcruiser and set off for another resort to collect four more guests.
With the vehicle then full, we headed for the rainforest, with Nicholas giving us a detailed briefing of the day’s plan. Our tour included the Daintree River ferry crossing, a guided walk through the thick, green forest where Nicholas showed and explained many trees, plants and features that we may not even have noticed, let alone understood, if we had been on our own. We continued on to Cape Tribulation where Nicholas set up a table with coffee and home-made muffins while we took a look at the beautiful deserted beach. We then moved on to a water hole with crystal clear water that was just about warm enough for some of us to take a dip. The next stop was at a fruit farm to sample its unusual home-made ice cream flavours before heading off to a delicious plated lunch set for us in a delightful remote restaurant in the forest. The main course was served with a variety of interesting fruits, and at the end of our meal the owner gave a fascinating presentation about the fruits and their origin. The final part of our tour was a boat ride on the Daintree River to enjoy the scenery and view the crocodiles along the riverbanks.
Daintree Safaris has been running this tour for a long time and has clearly got it down to a fine art in terms of providing a full and interesting itinerary that made the most of our day. We were very glad to have booked this tour, because we got so much more out of it than we would have done navigating the steep and very twisty roads ourselves, probably missing some interesting parts and certainly not understanding what we were seeing.

Had an awesome day with Nicholas! We were very grateful to be the only two on the tour so could ask Nic as many questions (in which he answered ALL in depth) as we wanted. We finished the day feeling as though we had well and truely done the Daintree- we visited such a variety of sites and had the perfect balance of informative guided time as well as time to soak in the surroundings. Nic went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. I highly recommend this tour if you are visiting the Daintree from Port Douglas - it is extremely good value for money as there is absolutely no way we could have visited that many sites, learnt as much as we did and enjoyed the Daintree in such capable hands any other way. Thank you Daintree Safaris for an incredible day!

My wife, 9 year old daughter and I went on safari with Nick last week. Wow, what a great experience it was. I couldn't recommend it enough.
The Daintree is a national treasure of the highest order. if you are going to visit it for the first time, you should really think about doing it with a guide. I struggle to think how you could find a guide more knowledgeable , experienced and personable as Nick is.
From the moment we decided to go with Daintee Safari, we were made to feel incredibly welcome. The booking process was as easy as you could image. All of our requests for information were met quickly and in detail.
We were met by Nick early in the morning at the agreed place. nick's vehicle is first rate and overly capable for the task at hand. Unlike others, its not a bus; its a 4WD Landcruiser so its built for the job. Nick's commentary is informative and his demeanor is disarmingly welcoming.
I don't take these sorts of tours often as I like to wander around and take my time.
Usually of I see something that takes my fancy, I might wish to stop. These sorts of tours dont cater that well for this type of behaviour. However, Nick is different. During the trip we were apparently behind schedule but you'd never have known it. Nick would prompt a move on without ever seeming to be rushed or hurried. His disarming nature would suggest it was time without being in your face or pressuring. I never felt rushed and never wished I had had more time somewhere. That sort of skill doesnt come naturally, it comes with doing this for 20++ years.
Lastly, Nick's knowledge of the area is incredible. He loves the subject matter and this passion comes through with every story, every fact he shares. He knows so much about the area but doesn't come across as lecturing or conceited. He will answer each and every question you have without being cavalier.
I look forward to joining Nick on another tour next time we're up in Cairns.

An amazing day spent with an amazing guide. Nicholas was an endless source of information. He took us to places we would never have found on our own and we saw things that we never knew existed. He kept us entertained all day - even spotting a cassowary and 2 chicks that we were able to get really close to.
I have seen the Daintree before, but this exceded all my expectations. Thank you Daintree Safaris, we had a sensational time.

I cannot speak more highly of this trip. This was the absolute best day of our trip!!
We picked a private tour with Nicholas as we hate larger tour groups. There were 2 adults & 3 kids (2 teenagers & a 5 year old). Annemaree made the booking process extremely easy.
Because we were travelling as a family, Nicholas was extremely flexible and accomodating.
We met in Port Douglas early morning ready for the day ahead. Nicholas has been in the game for a long time, so carefully plans the day so we avoided any crowds.
Nicholas was like a walking encyclopaedia of everything, from the Daintree, bird life, crocodiles, trees, and had a particular love of Cassowaries. I’m not usually overly interested in the detail, more appreciating of what I am witnessing but Nicholas had us all captivated from the moment we got into his car until the moment we left. All of us were disappointed when the day drew to a close, and my teenager daughter who is usually far more interested in her phone, has a newfound thirst for knowledge after our experience and said she wished we could do another day with Nicholas.
We started off the morning on a walk through the Daintree. Was absolutely beautiful. We loved hearing about the rainforest, it’s history, the plants & fruits from the trees. We learnt about things we are certain we wouldn’t have learnt with a large group.
Best advice, which hadn’t even crossed my mind - don’t wear black or dark colours! We pretty quickly learned that mozzies love dark colours. Despite Nicholas providing us with repellent we didn’t manage to escape being bitten.
We stopped at Cape Tribulation to look at the view, walk along the beach & have a beautiful morning tea with beautiful mufffins made by Annemaree.
We had a swim in a secluded swimming spot away from crowds where the water was crisp and fresh! A great way to cool off.
We got to experience some yummy ice cream at Daintree Ice cream company! We were adventurous and had wattleseed, and black sipote both delicious. The kids had mango and chocolate, both of which were hits. Nicholas had permission to collect some fruit from the nearby trees which had fallen and I now have two kids who are ordinarily fussy eaters become addicted to mangosteen & rambutans. My challenge will now be sourcing these fruits in Sydney!
I’m sure I’ve missed something but we went to a stunning lookout while Nicholas ordered ahead our lunch at the Daintree Tea house restaurant where we had delicious barramundi and a sample of some more amazing new fruits, another favourite being custard apple!
After lunch the owners of the restaurant gave us an interesting talk on different fruits & we learned some fascinating facts about barramundi!
We enjoyed the croc river cruise, sighting some very tiny baby crocs, along with the largest crocs on the river who we came very close to, Scarface.
Can’t express how impressed we were with our day out with Nicholas! Highly recommend.

What an amazing day! Nicholas took us on a bespoke tour in a 4WD vehicle, he was passionate about sustainability and the Aussie history together with the human origin and the respect for the history. Nicholas is well know by everyone that we came across including the road crews clearing the land slips. This was a WOW tour lots of information from a very attentive guide and being the owner and operator of the business he had a keen interest on giving the best experience possible. The restaurant food was just perfect with a choice of fish or steak as the main wow dishes with some other choices for those wishing to avoid normal food. You should have a look at the website, the tours are limited to six people max and everything is supplied, from Tea & Coffee in the morning to the lunch, all you need is some cash for ice cream and coffee later in the day. Watch out for the wait a while! Nicholas will explain.

We joined Nicholas from Daintree Safari for a full and fabulous tour of the Daintree in Far North Queensland.
It had been raining for a week resulting in flooding reducing the likelihood of our tour booked for 26/4 going ahead. The prompt and helpful Annemaree emailed us to offer options should the rain and flooding keep up. We rebooked for 27/4 and woke to no rain and sunny conditions.
Nicholas picked us up from Silky Oaks Lodge for an early start and this was in order to get ahead of other tours. He was obviously an experienced friendly Guide from the outset.
Our itinerary was as promised with comfortable 4 wheel driving interspersed with diverse activities. Our highlights being the conversation, not just a tour guide monologue, we learnt a lot about FNQ, a swim in a secluded swimming hole at Cape Tribulation and ofcourse the unparalleled beauty of our ancient rainforest to reef.
We highly recommend this tour.

I was traveling with family (who were visiting Australia for the first time) and Nicholas's tour was one of the highlights of our trip! He is so experienced and knowledgeable - it's clear he's been doing this for many years. The tour included a variety of activities including hiking through the rainforest, walking Cape Tribulation beach, swimming in a freshwater water hole, lunch at the Daintree Tea house, a stop at a local ice cream parlor and a croc river boat tour. We saw lizards, spiders, crocs, cassowaries, a small shark, stingrays and lots of flora - fauna. Thank you to Nicholas for being so professional and amazing! We did

We were lucky enough to have Nicholas (Nickopedia) all to ourselves for the day. I’d imagine many tour operators would have cancelled a tour that was only at 1/3 capacity, but not these guys. Nick’s knowledge of the daintree is almost unbelievable. He didn’t just write the book on this place, he is the book. What for us would have been a drive through the forest and a visit to the beach became one of the most informative few hours of our lives. Some highlights include seeing some local reptiles we’d never have seen on our own, an amazing swimming hole we’d never have found and seeing the effect aboriginal tool making had on the root systems of the rainforest in places. Something we would never have worked out for ourselves. Lunch was amazing, the croc cruise provided plenty of opportunities for seeing crocs in the wild and the vehicle is very comfortable. Nick could not have been more accommodating. If, like us large group touring is not your thing, this tour is a must do. Thanks again Nick 🤙🏽

I had the opportunity earlier this month to join Nicholas on an excursion into the Daintree rainforest. From the moment we were gathered at our hotel (Mai Tai resort) we knew we would be in for a great day - Nick was warm, jovial/good-natured, and accommodating. We toured many areas, and were given multiple options for sightseeing along our day-long tour. We were provide a wealth of information about each site, the rainforest in general, the animals and plant life. We stopped for lunch at an outdoor type café, and the food was outstanding. I learned a great deal during our outing, and highly recommend Daintree Safaris as an activity.

Just wondering where the pick up is? Is it downtown Port Douglas or can you pick us up from our hotel downtown?
Is there an option for vegan meals on the trip? Dairy free ice cream?
Thanks!
