Still an iconic market and a must do on a Sunday in Port Douglas, but this visit we were a little disappointed with the sameness of the stalls and the inflated prices since the last time we visited. Can appreciate the artistry of the craft items and the time taken to hand make goods, but we wondered whether the prices were set for the cruise ship guests tendered in non stop all morning? There was less fruit on offer but the mango man had some great organic fruits and the fruit filled natural icy poles were great but sold out on the hot day. A highlight remains the location and we enjoyed a picnic in the adjacent parklands where people sat enjoying the ocean breeze. Be prepared to fight the crowds in the actual market area but enjoy the space of the park.

The market didn't have a lot of stalls which were strung out by the shore. There was nothing stand out but there were several stalls selling hand made crafts, and a few stalls selling food. Some of the stalls clearly had mass produced goods from the Far East with inflated prices. However worth a wander through if visiting Port Douglas and the views of the shore and bay are worth seeing.

Enjoyable morning adventure in a shady market that runs from 8am to around noon. Local crafters are set up in stalls selling everything from local fruit and veg, to candles, to paintings or tarot card readings. We bought some fabulous hand screen printed linen tea towels with motifs that celebrated the tropics (platypus, pineapples, and palm trees were our choices), some tasty nuts from the local toasted/flavoured nut vendor, and some art from the local Sea studio gallery (got a baby shower to go to? Check out the adorable swaddling cloths and baby roo, koala, and wombat prints. Guaranteed to make you a tasteful yet elegant gift giver).

My wife was looking forward to the markets but due to the late start from Cairns many of the stall holders were already packing up when we arrived. Those stalls that still remained showcased a range of locally made arts and crafts, jewellery, leatherwork, timber carvings, varieties of local produce and assorted snacks and refreshments. Only had about 20 minutes but enough to whet the appetite for another visit.

This was a great place to enjoy great food, and shop for meaningful gifts and souvenirs from Australia on our trip. There were over 50 vendors, and we had some many interesting conversations with the actual artists and artisans. Everyone was cheerful and friendly. We ended up with so many great finds! There were also lots of tasty food items and produce as well as fresh local meats and seafood. Much more useful than Rusty’s in Cairns for serious tourist shopping.

A nice start to a busy Sunday, very touristy but that’s not bad if you’re a tourist! Lots of locally made arts and crafts, good spot to pick up a few gifts for friends and family who were not so lucky to be here. Grab some photos at the park after and maybe a fruit slushy or tropical fruit ice block. Worth it if it’s on your way or nearby, but maybe not worth going too far out of your way for.

We had heard amazing things about the Port Douglas markets so were very much looking forward to them.
They are in a beautiful location down on the water, the markets themselves contained a lot of over priced tat!
My Dad needed a hat as he had misplaced his and paid $50 for a similar hat that I had purchased for $30 in Sydney a couple of weeks earlier. Some of the food was more expensive than the Easter show which we know is a complete rip-off.
Although there was some ‘Artisan’ stalls was expecting more; nicest thing was the location!!

If you are looking for a Sunday drive away from Cairns, then the Port Douglas markets may be worth the trip. The drive itself along the picturesque coastline is worth the effort, as the unqiue landscape where reef meets rainforest is truly worthy of World Heritage listing. Once we finally snaffled a park at the market (no mean feat at 10 am with everyone circling like vulture for a space) we ventured in to buy some gifts to take home. We hadn't remembered to take our hats so this was our first purchase. There are lots of home made crafts to choose from as well as live music, fruit and vegetables. The freshly made pineapple juice was a real hit with us to quench our thirst. We were glad we made the trip and also heard to congregation at the church in the grounds singing away the monrning service.

It's highly suggested to visit PD Sunday market when you are in town. It's also highly recommended to go there a bit early when it's not crowded. There are lots of food and local produces, please try some. The only drawback would be it's a bit dusty in some parts of the market.

Small market selling items made and/or grown by the locals. Plenty of gift choices. Soy candles, jewelry, skincare, leather products just to name a few. There were even stalls with gifts to take home for that four legged family member. Lots of local produce too including nuts, coconuts and ice cream! And ladies.... dresses! Gorgeous floral designs for all ages and great prices. Market runs every Sunday from 8-1.30pm. Definitely add this to your list of things to do if any Port Douglas on a Sunday.
