We had an amazing afternoon with Renae and Dillon! They were knowledgeable and respectful of the environment we were in whilst making it loads of fun! I felt safe and supported and they were accommodating to all levels of abilities and needs of the group. Absolutely would recommend Back Country Bliss Adventures; a day my family and l will always remember. Thank you Renae and Dillon.

The tour was a mix of interesting nature discovery in the forest and exploring the river. Great for our family including an 11 year old and 13 year old. It’s cold but the wetsuits make it ok as soon as you get in. The tour guide was enthusiastic and entertaining which is needed when you are trying to convince some sceptical people to jump in a cold river. Just be warned though … take off any rings. I lost my wedding ring half down a small set of rapids. That ring hardly came off my finger without a struggle but the combination of cold water and friction against rocks pulled that ring right off my finger. Wasn’t very happy at all at the end of the tour about losing my ring until 3 weeks later when the tour operator found it with a metal detector and sent it back to me. Completely unexpected and well done by them. Above and beyond what I expected.

This tour is professionally run by operators who clearly respect the incredible nature they work in.
Our guides Will and Vincent were knowledgeable and entertaining.
There are parts of the tour which require good balance and strength (walking through a river stream with loose rocks carrying a raft is not for everyone) so don’t sign the waiver unless you really think you’ll manage everything described.
But the experience was unlike anything I’ve ever done and worth the physical challenge to my 50 year old body.
Snorkeling in clear water, riding the raft through small rapids and then floating underneath the rainforest canopy was fabulous.

Thanks for taking the time to write such a great review Steph! We will pass on your kind words to our guides and we're so happy you enjoyed the tour (floating under the rainforest canopy is pretty spectacular!). Hopefully we see you again on your next visit!

I did the River Drift in 2018 and it was amazing. Unfortunately second experience doing this tour was very average. The river drift is cut much shorter with only about 20 minutes of drifting down the river. A lot of driving and walking for an activity that only lasts 20 minutes is not worth the money or time. The guides were fantastic, it’s just that the river drift is way too short.

Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent River Drift tour with us. We’re saddened that your experience with us this time differed from your previous adventure. While my attempted reasoning below won’t change the experience you had, I hope it sheds some light on why things have changed. The impact of Cyclone Jasper in December 2023, dramatically altered the river's landscape. Faced with the possibility of losing our tour entirely post-flooding, we were determined to adapt. This event raised the riverbed by 2 meters, challenging us to innovate while preserving the spirit of our adventures. Our solution has been a dynamic, hybrid river walk and drift tour that allows us to explore the river’s evolving features under the stunning canopy of the rainforest. The ability to adapt, is a core aspect of our tours, allowing us to adjust to the ever-changing conditions of the river and ensure the safety and enjoyment of all our guests. The length of the drifting section, therefore, varies with the river's speed and the composition of our groups to create an inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone. We hope the complimentary photos of your tour capture the beauty and excitement of this unique adventure. While the adjustments, including the temporary suspension of snorkelling, are responses to the river’s current state, they represent our commitment to delivering safe, enjoyable, and responsive tours amidst nature's unpredictability. Our guides, and indeed our entire team, strive to ensure every guest has the best experience possible, and it saddens us to know we fell short of this goal during your visit. The river’s character is ever-changing, offering a new adventure with each visit. We hope you’ll consider giving us another opportunity to share its evolving beauty with you. Your feedback is invaluable to us as we continue to adapt and enhance our tours. Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to the chance to welcome you back for a different river experience, one that we hope will exceed your expectations. For those interested in seeing the beauty and excitement of our adventures, we invite you to visit our FB page backcountryblissphotos , where we post daily photos from our tours. It's a great way to see the dynamic nature of our experiences and the joy our guests have exploring the river's evolving landscape.

River Drift Snorkelling
We were a group of 7 who did the above tour. It was great! We had a mixed group of experienced swimmers and non-swimmers and everyone felt comfortable and safe. For the non-swimmers, October was a great time as a we were told the water is not that high. The floatable rafts were durable and felt safe, they also acted as a great floatation device when you go snorkelling. There was a few white water rafting spots that you go through and that was very fun.
There was some walking involved but it wasn’t far or difficult (most would be able to walk). Our tour guides were friendly and pointed out different plants and species on the tour. Highly recommend this tour! Great communication prior to trip whenever I had questions and they were quick to respond.

First half of the day was spent snorkelling in pristine waters of Mossman river, looking at surprising variety of fish, searching for turtles and eels. At times, where the waters were shallow and the river was fast, we got on amazingly robust rafts, and drifted (and at times at a speed) down the river. The last section, called the cathedral, was incredibly beautiful, and was enjoyed the best by drifting on rafts down the river looking up at the trees and plants above. Hot chocolate at the end was a bonus!
For the second part of the tour, my husband, me and our guide Will headed to the Mossman gorge visitor centre. We were welcomed by an Elder of local Yirrganydji tribe who performed a smoke ceremony. We then had a guided walk in the rainforest and a swim in the river (again!). I would recommend this without reservation...

We did this tour with three young kids aged 3, 5 and 7. Elliot was amazing with our 5 year old. He was not only able to connect with are shy little boy but was able to give him the confidence to give it a try and have fun. There were a few younger kids in our group so the guides set up and activity to see parents vs kids in trying to run across two of the lilos. The kids absolutely loved seeing their parents fall into the water

Wow, from the time that Wil picked us up to the time he dropped us off was absolutely awesome. The float down the rapids was sensational along with the snorkeling. He put our minds at ease and was extremely knowledgeable about everything. We can’t thank him enough for the day. Definitely a must while in Port Douglas.

My 16 year old daughter and myself did the River Snorkel Drift tour today, from our pickup from our hotel to our drop off we had a wonderful time our guide Artemis ( sorry if I have spelt that incorrectly) also known as Arty was so friendly, informative and safety conscious we had such a fun time. We learnt so much but the drifting was so exciting, and full of laughs, we seen a water dragon and fish on our tour but sadly no turtles.

I can highly recommend this tour for singles, couples or families, the walk was easy, they supply wetsuits and shoes , and your snorkel equipment, do yourself a favour and do this tour.

I have to say I was sadly underwhelmed by this trip. It was very very cold (even with thermals and wetsuits) and we moved so slowly along a very short stretch of river that it was really hard to stay warm. It’s probably my fault for not looking into it more, but it’s a very sedentary activity. It’s also all within a walking distance of the van, so only a small stretch of river; I had assumed it would be point to point and we’d be picked up at the end.

Staff were lovely but we kept being encouraged to have photos taken rather than actually making progress down the river! Not worth the considerable cost for me.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations and that the trip felt underwhelming for you. We understand that the cold can significantly impact the enjoyment of outdoor activities, and we’re sorry that this was the case for you, even with the provided thermals and wetsuits. We appreciate your comments regarding the pace of the activity and the length of the river stretch. We do our best to create an experience that is both enjoyable and accessible to a wide range of participants, but we understand that it may not have been as active as you had hoped. We'll review our itinerary to ensure it offers value and enjoyment for all participants. . Thank you for choosing our tour, and we appreciate your kind words about our guides. We hope you might consider joining us again under different conditions.
