We were picked up from our hotel by the knowledgeable Dale who drove us all day even through heavy rainstorms. Dale took us to fantastic destinations where we enjoyed local fruit, damper, black garlic, nuts, jams, chocolates, wine, gin, whiskey, coffee, yabbies, crocodile, kangaroo etc., all the while giving us the history and local stories from the area. Went on the day long Atherton Tablelands tour and could not recommend it more highly. The tour started at approx 8am and proceeded to take us to many local businesses that presented the very best of the fruits, foods & drinks of the region. We went to: - Rainforestation Nature Park in the Kuranda forest for a delicious breakfast of damper, tropical fruits / jams and tea & coffee - DeBrueys Boutique Tropical Winery in Mareeba to try local tropical fruit wines & liqueurs, - The Humpy Nut World for amazing platters of seasonal local fruits for morning tea and the opportunity to buy a fantastic variety of vegetables, tropical fruits, hundreds of different varieties of nuts, dried fruits and locally produced jams & sauces, - Australian Platypus Park for lunch (amazing food) and a chance to see some platypuses (or is that platypi?), - Gallo Dairyland for an afternoon cheese tasting, - Mount Uncle Distillery with some of the best gins / whiskeys & liqueurs to sample & buy, and finally - Platypus Park on a privately owned property for a final drink & nibbles. It was certainly a long day as we returned to our accommodation around 5.45pm. Our tour guide, Chris, made the tour even more enjoyable as he regaled us with historical information about the area as well as some of his own experiences. Big thumbs up Chris Highly recommended.…
