Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Port Douglas is a haven. We visited recently and stayed in a wonderful accommodation the Coral Sea Villas and ate at a couple of very hospitable venues. The Yacht Club would rate highly. Having said this, I had to write this review because there was an odd experience at a number of the local businesses. I have a degree in Social Science and that is probably the reason I am writing this as I am very curious about the societal approach to customers. It seems to me that PD is very beholding to the tourist income. However, the response from a number of establishments we visited was bordering on rude and belligerent. Other venues the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. There did not seem to be an in between. Very odd. I noticed this type of review from numerous people on this website and I think PD as a community want to have a good look at this behaviour. COVID has effected the entire planet and being from Melbourne I am more than aware of the ramifications it has had on the economy and people's lives and livelihoods. BUT, there if it has been too much probably better off for all concerned to be out of the hospitality industry. These people are not doing their magnificent township any favours.

On our Sunday drive from Cairns to Undara we stopped here for a break. Besides the friendly information locals with lots of maps and suggestions, there is a comprehensive display of colonial era and subsequent activity and then .... I entered a wonderful comprehensive display of Indigenous culture including the impact of colonisation, including some truth telling.
And clean toilets and shady trees and everything here is free except souvenirs you might chose to buy.

Port Douglas is about an hours drive from Cairns.
All the way you drive along mountains on one side and ocean on the other side. It reminded me of Great Ocean Drive.
The town has beautiful palm trees and their information centre has all the information about the surrounding of this World Heritage Listed place.
Accommodation can be from backpacks to luxurious Mirage Resorts.
Lots of eateries and coffee places.
I really enjoyed this place.

Called in to checkout the Wildlife Habitat, a lovely lady named Kat was so incredibly helpful, assisting with local attractions, drives, and suggestions. Kat was so passionate it was a pleasure to speak with her.

Spent the day walking around PD, it has tones of shops from niche clothes shops to things like cotton on.
Had lunch at Ecco cafe, dishes were very large(even just a sandwich but for $12 you'd hope so)

Wandered in to enquire about a local video and the staff member was very helpful. She advised us on a couple of extra tours to take as well as having the DVDs in store for us to purchase. The store was well set out and clean and neat.

What is there to like about private tourism operators passing themselves off as official tourist information centres? Especially when they employ "advisors" who have less local knowledge than the average visitor.
Port Douglas really does need a decent government funded information centre.
