Found Skedaddle on Trip Advisor after seeing several other options for the Reef from Cairns. We didn't want to spend time on an island but just snorkel from a boat, so this half day trip was perfect for our needs. We were very impressed with Skedaddle, well organised, good safety and briefings. the equipment was in good condition too and stored well. Did a guided snorkel, then had time for independent snorkelling before going on the glass bottomed boat. 5 hours round trip on a comfortable boat. Highly recommend.

Jason and his crew were very good with the safety briefing it was a terrible shame that they didn't stick with it. I complete my form for snorkelling stating that I was a poor swimmer and later mentioned that this when I set off. I managed to keep with the group and was enjoying looking at the fish. I noticed that I was now separated from the group, then suffered exhaustion trying to swim against the current.I decided then to float on my back and waved my arms about. There was no spotter on the back of the boat although we were told there would be one. We had one guy looking after 17 of us. It was him that noticed that I was waving my arms about which I did for about ten minutes. I was not impressed.

Hello Julianne, Thank you for your review. I am disappointed to hear that you found the safety onboard not satisfactory. Safety is a matter which we take very seriously, and I find it difficult to accept the day was as you describe. I have checked the Facebook photos of the day and the lookout (spotter) is clearly visible and watching over the snorkellers. Yes, there were 17 passengers that day, however there were 2 snorkel tours conducted which means the group size would have been a very comfortable 8 or 9. However, if you have any concerns regarding safety please read Harry’s review: “Safety at its best really super.” Posted February 20th, 2020.

I’m so glad we took this tour! The boat is really nice and the captain and her crew were great and very knowledgeable. Loved taking a fast boat instead of spending so much time getting to/from the reef. Highly recommend. Also appreciate that they take photos for you.

Highlights Friendly crew Speedy boat Top snorkel equipment Snorkel tour Glass bottom boat Reef knowledge Late start No unnecessary beach stops Lowlights None! Full trip derails below The larger than it looks in the pictures boat can be found just down the E arm of the pier. This is a very fast boat, it takes about 1hr to reach the outer reef, as opposed to 2hr or more for the larger boats. With 2000hp on tap you could literally surf off the wake as she cuts through the water. It has a roof and open sides, which can be zipped up in inclement weather, so shade and protection is available. There is a water fountain and bottles water available on board. The crew of 5 are very friendly and efficient. The joining instructions are quite clear and include a map for reference. We arrived at about 10,45 for the 11,00 boarding and were asked to wait a few minutes while the prepared the boat. You are asked to sign in onto a register and are issued a safety number which you keep throughout the day. We took an average size beach bag with water, some snacks and issentials, this can be stored under your seat. Make sure you have evidence of the confirmation of your booking as they wish to see this, and at this point are issued with a stinger suit if required. Head onto the boat where you are asked to put your shoes into a box, then are issued your fins and mask by the crew, these can be stowed in pockets along the inside of the boat so are not an inconvenience in the trip. Take your seat, remembering the further back you sit the less bouncy it is, and complete a medical form attached to a clipboard (pen provided) We cast off at 11,18am, and arrived at the reef 12,18pm.. Whilst the captain and crew tied up the boat we had a snorkel safety briefing, this takes about 10 mins and then you are ready to snorkel or go on the glass bottom boat ride. There is a snorkel tour which is well worth the time, our guide Nikki, pointed out loads of stuff we wouldn't have seen and told us all about the fish and reef. Free snorkeling was then available, or could be from the off if you opted out of the tour. Take the time to go on the glass bottom boat tour, some great explanations of the Reef structure and the conservation efforts the Skeedaddle guys are doing to help the reef. We were lucky with the calm sea conditions making a very smooth ride and almost unlimited visability whilst on the Reef. More types of fish than I ever seen whilst snorkeling, and even a sea turtle graced us with its prescence We readied to return to the Reef about 14,40 and engines fired up and running to return at 14,57 Stepped off the boat at 16,00 to our shoes all lined up on the marina deck. If you want a professional, friendly, knowledge snorkel/dive trip to the reef without the faff of beach trips and early starts, this is the trip you need
