Booked the trip on a whim the day before and certainly weren’t disappointed! As Stand Up Paddleboard novices we were a bit nervous but had nothing to fear. Staff were super friendly and knowledgeable on surrounding area giving us recommendations on places to visit. Pick up from Cairns central was prompt and easy. Morning tea was healthy and delicious. Definitely considering buying SUP’s and would do this tour again in a heartbeat

I did SUP on Tinaroo organised though a local meet up group and had a great time. Barefoot Tours took us via bus to Lake Tinaroo and we met Allie at the Platypus Day Use Area (North Western part of the Lake, accessed via Kauri) to start our SUP Adventure. We were given a short training session on how to use the SUPs up on dry land with Allie and then hit the water for a guided tour. This was my 2nd SUP experience (my first on Fitzroy Island was a disaster – I could not stay on the board!) and I didn’t fall off once this time (must have been the training!) The lake was beautiful and we had a nice relaxing paddle guided by Allie along a set route which included navigating some old dead trees protruding through the water. We stopped on the bank at one point and played a game where you lie across the board holding hands with another person and flip over into the water. Allie did a great job of keeping everyone together and safe given the group was diverse in terms of age and experience. We had a person with a medical issue (pre-existing condition) which flared up on the water and was handled very well by Allie. Next time I’d be keen to rent a SUP and explore more of Tinaroo at my own pace. Given Tinaroo is a popular waterway, there are a lot of watercraft to compete with (jet skis, speedboats etc.), so you will need to watch out for waves and put your balancing skills to the test. After this tour, I fell in love with SUP and did it again on Copperlode Dam a month or so later and it was completely empty of other watercraft (only one business has access to use SUPs and small fishing boat) and much calmer waters for those interested. But if you are a beginner and want a great experience for your first time on a SUP, What’SUP Cairns (I love the name too) is a great way to learn SUP the right way. I am also keen to join their SUP tour out to Double Island off Palm Cove at some point. Thanks What’SUP Cairns!

Ali is such a wonderful coach and wonderful woman. I did a SUP session with her on NY day at Fitzroy Island. She was amazing at showing me the critical technique so that I was able to do the paddling like real. I absolutely enjoyed it and instantly fell in love with SUP. I saw turtles and fishes swimming pass me. Ali and I had a little talk about life. I was amazed at how awesome this woman is. Thank you Ali you are such a gem and your SUP is just terrific! Happy New Year and see you again soon!
