- Nathan O3 contributionsAn excellent experienceThe Australian Armour & Artillery Museum has been on my bucket list since I first learned about it. Tickets were $30 per adult for a 3 day pass and you need the 3 days to view the collection. I am a military vehicle restorer myself so I’ve seen tanks & artillery before but this place is next level you walk into the museum and are immediately overwhelmed by the sheer number of vehicles on display it’s difficult to know where to start! Having kept up to date with the museums YouTube channels & Facebook page I’ve watched as many of the vehicles in the museum have been returned from a pile of scrap metal & parts to the immense weapons of war they once were so being able to see the restored vehicles in person view and touch them was an excellent experience. Being able to get so close to the vehicles and really get a good look at them was a unique experience that allows you to appreciate the hard work that has gone into bringing them back & keeping them running as well as ponder the experiences the men who crewed them must have endured. The staff were very friendly & knowledgeable we attended a chat about the Sabre CVRT & swapped family warries. I was able to purchase a section of Panzer 1 track for my own collection & left with my mind blown. If you’re in Cairns I cannot recommend the Museum enough.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 22 February 2024
- Alex FaiersCape Town, South Africa1 contributionAmazing museam with an amazing team. The team at Aus Amour have an amazing collection of military vehicles and artillery cannons. Over 60% of there vehicles are in running condition and they are always working on there vehicles to make non-runners running and keep runners running. They honestly are doing an absolute great job with there vehicles and they are extremely friendly and knowledgeable and are ready to answer every question that you might have.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 March 2024
- Mark EWhitianga, New Zealand803 contributionsSydney to Cairns 2023A huge facility with a huge range of military vehicles, armouries and much more from the 1800s and WW1 and WW2 from many different countries. Tanks, armoured vehicles, cannons, trucks, cars and motorcycles and much much more. You can take a ride in a tank, they have a large area out back for this. They have a shooting range down stairs. We had a bit of a giggle walking around guessing which country the vehicle came from before we got to it. My guesses were fairly accurate for the British vehicles as most had an oil drip tray under them lol. Well worth a wander around.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 April 2024
- Lenore P6 contributionsWhat an amazing collection of exhibits! An incredible collection of millitary vehicles and relics. I doubt there are many collections better than this anywhere in the world. We particularly enjoyed the shooting gallery. Archie expertly coached us through the safe and correct handling of the firearms. A must-visit in Cairns!Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 18 April 2024
- Lorraine LTarwin Lower, Australia3,584 contributionsAn excellent exhibitionThis is the fourth or fifth time we have stayed in Cairns and every time we have driven past this museum not thinking too much about it. This time looking for something different to do we thought we would visit. What an absolute surprise this is, not only because of the mind boggling number of vehicles on display but also because of the huge shed they are kept in. At 10,000 SqMts it is an engineering marvel. There are over 220 vehicles stored here at the moment which is all the more impressive considering it was once owned by one person. The museum is adding to the collection when they can and all the vehicles have been lovingly restored. There is also a display of Artillery that has been collected from various wars. There are comprehensive information boards for all the vehicles and the country of origin in noted for each one. Don't miss this if in Cairns.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 June 2024
- Sherpa3695142 contributionsAn absolute gemThis was a surprise stop for us but definitely the highlight for our son. He was so excited to use the shooting range and the staff were amazing and ensured that he had a great experience. The museum itself was fantastic and we spent a whole morning taking it in. It’s really well laid out and the facilities are kept extremely clean. Highly recommended to anyone with an interest in military history.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 June 2024
- John BSydney, Australia89 contributionsTigers and Cats4th biggest in the world! 60% of the Tanks on the floor actually run. If you are a Tank enthusiast this is a must. Smell the diesel. WW2 in general, then still amazing. There is so much kit here it is grouped by country; UK, Australia, USA, Russian and of course German with both a Panther and Tiger. Well worth 2 hours and more if you are very keen. Well signed so one can read as you go, no need to be an expert. We did not get to the shooting range. But the coffee man is good for a stop. I bought the Annual pass as went on 2 different days.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 14 August 2024

- MarkusKl237 contributionsBest museums in CairnsOne of the best tank museums, which I visited. Really friendly and helpful staff. Perfect restored tanks and vehicles. Behind the museum is a field, where you can drive with a military vehicle as a Passenger. They also have a nice playground for kids and if you want to shoot some rifles, there is a perfect opportunity to do that there!!! We are definitely coming back!! Just great!!!Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 22 September 2024
- George MSendai, Japan27 contributionsWonderful CollectionWho would have guessed such a place existed in Cairns? A truly astonishing collection of armoured vehicles and artillery pieces from all periods. You can even try a few infantry weapons from WW2 in the basement. The highlight is a Tiger tank, one of only a dozen left in the world. Just when you think they can't offer anything else, you find something new to marvel at. This place is heaven for anyone interested in military history. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and admission was reasonable considering how much is on display.Visited September 2024Travelled soloWritten 25 September 2024

It was a spectacular sight to see all the tanks I made as a child in models lined up in a row.
You can get there from the center of Cairns by public transport, bus or taxi. (It takes about 20 minutes from the city by taxi, and costs about $40. Taxis can be used by credit card, and the bus stop is just around the corner from Skyrace Station.)
There are so many types that you won't have enough time to look around at your leisure.
There were many rare vehicles, including Japanese vehicles.
There seem to be many vehicles in operation, and they are shown around at events, so I recommend checking the schedule on the website.
I happened to be there on the day of the information session, and was able to attend. (Very detailed)
There is also a shop where you can get souvenirs.
The staff were very kind and I had a very enjoyable time.

Great value for money, knowing the money is being used for the restoration of such vehicles and allowing us to see it.
The museum is huge, it is obvious that the person who runs all this is passionate. A great experience had, especially with Paul the historian who volunteers his time. Paul's ability to link so many stories with a range of vehicles made it an invaluable experience.
Due to the tour guide and then wanding around, it took us slightly over 2 hours.

My wife and I visited the museum in late March 2023. Having been to plenty of museums around the world and with a particular interest in military history, I can say without doubt this is one of the best collections of its kind you will find. Absolutely full of interesting and, in some cases, unique vehicles and weapons, all displayed in a no nonsense way that allows you to walk around each exhibit and get up close should you wish. I would particularly applaud our volunteer guide, Paul, who spent close to two hours taking us through the museum. Erudite and expansive in his knowledge, he put the vehicles in their historical context and was a wealth of information on all things military. He is a real asset to the museum. All up we spent about 3.5 hours touring the place and intend to go back later in the year when, for one weekend, they fire up the vehicles that are still operative and run them around their property. We were told this is the fourth largest AFV collection in the world, and I can well believe it. I can't recommend this place highly enough for anyone with an interest in military history.

I visited the Australian Armour & Artillery Museum Cairns on a Saturday morning. Military Historian Paul does a free 2 hour tour from 10:30 am. This tour is amazing and not to be missed. Details such as facts and figures, battle history revealed, and the differences and design developments are incredible. The joy is the selective snippets of individual incidents related to items on display or the battles these were involved in. These bring the history meaningfully to life, and enrich the appreciation of the items on display and their differences. Paul responds to visitor queries, and one got the sense the tour that day was tailored to the audience. Paul’s knowledge and head for names and event details suggests this tour could very well be varied each time you visited.

Great collection of armour & artillery from various eras. The highlight though was definitely the rifle range where (for an extra fee) I was able to live fire an SMLE 303 rifle from the Second World War. A great privilege expertly facilitated by the friendly & knowledgeable staff.

Nealy four years since our last visit because of Covid. The boys were very happy to see all the new exhibits and enjoyed the tank ride with Jason. As usual Jason was great with the boys and took time out to explain to them about some of the tanks he had driven in the army and at the museum.
There was a great little coffee van with food there this time, it's not there all the time, mainly on holidays and special events.
The boys did the shooting range again, they enjoyed it as usual even though they thought it was a little rushed this time because there were a lot off bookings for it. Alex was the range instructor and he is very knowledgeable about guns which the boys have a big interest in.
We will be back in August for the AusArmourFest weekend, the boys are now old enough to enjoy it properly.

Incredible private collection of tanks, armoured vehicles, artillery pieces and more.
The Saturday tour with military historian Paul was fantastic, with a narrative weaving together events from the world wars, the museum’s collection and tons of fascinating facts and stories as we walked around. Totally engrossing.
Half a day was not enough for the collection, tour, rifle range and vehicle rides.
Highly recommended and a must see if you have any interest in military history and armour.

Tremendous collection of historical and modern armour including some impressive rebuilds of rare German WWII armoured vehicles and tanks. We spent 4-5 hours walking through the exhibits with my sons and then came back again for the highlight of the museum experience with a Saturday information tour held by Paul Fordyce. Excellent and informative tour if you attend when Paul has one scheduled . . . he answered many questions from everyone (including the kids) and told some wonderful narratives related to the history of the equipment and the battles fought. Definitely worth adding this tour with Paul and spending some time down at the gun range for a bit of fun for everyone at the end of the day. Tanks again Paul :)

My partner and I attended a 2-hour tour today by Paul, a military historian at The Australian Armour & Artillery Museum in Cairns. It was educational and informative, and added another dimension to the museum's collection of tanks and artefacts. The stories about the innovations that were created during wars of the last century, key strategies that advanced the various armies' positions, and noteworthy individuals who made outstanding contributions to their respective sides were interesting. The tour was balanced with factual stories about Australian, British, Russian, German, Japanese, and American troops. The tour is normally held on a Saturday from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Thoroughly recommended.

If you are a military buff then this is a must for you to visit whilst in Cairns. There is armour and tracked vehicles from all over the world. Absolutely incredible display. You can also shoot rifles, in their indoor rifle range for an extra cost. Weapons from .22 through to .44 magnum.
