Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It was a great day Our captain Kent was very friendly and he is a fantastic cook, he prepared a delicious morning tea and lunch with king prawns and crabs. It was absolutely delicious. The fishing was very successful and everyone caught several different types of fish. Thank you Kent, you are a true professional

Fun day, enjoyable eating the mud crabs, cheap compared to price of crabs at nearby restaurants, fishing is fun but if your looking for big game fish this trip is it for you.

It was hard to go fishing as operators were either booked out or had their boats out of the water. One of the latter suggested I give this bloke a call.

Easy enough to find at the marina, and after a short delay waiting for a straggler off we went. Crabbing was a little light on - although being from SEQ Winter is never a good time for them. One big muddie was already on board and three sandies were caught to add to the feed later on. Credit to the skipper, he threw undersized crabs and jennies back.

Fishing was haphazard. The skipper kept prattling on about potential catches but didn't really have any plan and constantly moved and anchored up (I feel we would have had more success drifting). Bait was good (large firm prawns) but in his own words after unsuccessful cast netting "no fresh bait, no big fish"

After no success outside Trinity Inlet we ventured up a small creek where plenty of smaller fish and fun were had by all. This didn't sit well with the skipper who then headed back out for "big fish". The Vietnamese prawn rice paper rolls were awesome (perhaps prepared by his wife?)

After not much activity back in Trinity Inlet the pot went on to cook the crabs. One other bloke had a good fish on when the skipper scurried over, seized the rod from him and then lost the fish in the process. When the crabs were ready to eat, my wife was hesitant to leave her rod unattended due to her track record of big fish striking her unattended gear. The skipper insisted she left it unattended to eat and sure enough, broken off by a large fish while she was eating crab.

After a bit more puttering about to no avail it was time to head back empty handed - just like a charter from the Gold Coast. For those sensitive, the skipper is a heavy smoker but he was very quick to rebait guest hooks and on for a chat when prompted.

We went out with Kent a week ago, and were soooooo happy that we'd caught a HUGE 72cm barramundi in a mangrove creek at Cairns, and a lovely Mangrove Jack. His crab pots pulled up 2 large mud crabs which he cooked on the boat (yummy!!!). Had a really great day with an experienced local guide. Couldn't be happier!!

We went out with Great Day Fishing five years ago with Henry. That was great fun. So we came back this time. Kent, the new owner is as good and even better. We had wonderful time on his boat. And we were so lucky that day. Other than lots of small fishes we caught a big trevally about 5Kg and a big puffer fish. Kent showed his excellent fishing skill helping us pull the giant fish up. We couldn't do it without him. The crabs he collected and cooked onsite were so yummy. You can't get anything fresher than that. Our kids enjoyed it so much. Highly entertaining tour, a must do in Cairns! We will be back again!

My husband and a friend we were travelling with recently went fishing with Great Day Fishing and Crabbing. They both had a lot of fun. They were lucky enough to have a smaller sized group, so plenty of room on the boat. Alot of fun and humour with the skipper. A few fish caught, some not keepable. But a good time was has and weather was great. Skipper spent time with both fishing and crabbing out in the inlet area. Many of the pots had crabs in them. Good amount was kept to provide a good lunch for the people on board. Good lunch cooked aboard, with crab, fish and other seafood. Recommended tour.

We had poor weather but we still managed to catch 4 nice fish!! He is a quiet man but he knows good spots to fish and his mud crab and Vietnamese rolls are delicious! Well worth the money and probably best for a beginner or novice fisher.
