The crystal clear waters of Michaelmas Cay absolutely cannot be beat. By far one of the best reefs within a day's trip of Cairns!

This place is absolutely perfect. This is how I imagine the paradise. I felt blessed to have the possibility to be there. I even think this place, in my opinion, is better than Whitehaven.

Absolutely beautiful, Just the way nature intended this spot to stay in it's natural place. Definitely worth a visit, staff are friendly and helpful. A fantastic spot for people who are not good swimmers and can opt not to do any Snorkeling. I enjoyed the...More

Surprised and delighted to see this location teeming with bird life. A bit on the nose with all the guano but a great experience to be up close and personal with nature. Great place for snorkelling and diving

This was our first stop on a day tour and I was not exepcting to see so many birds, so take your binos if you are into bird watching. The breeding area is fenced off. Great snorkelling around this little cay.

Seeing it is believing the wonders of the Barrier Reef. The dreaded bleaching has not greatly impacted Hastings Reef so you get to enjoy sorting over sea cliffs of coral with a the colours of the rainbow fish. Worth every expensive dollar to see this...More

Best money I've spent in Australia so far. Swimming with turtles and seeing the reef's own Nemo's symbiotically living in sea anemones testicles. Thousands of vibrantly coloured fish. This is going to be a life experience hard to beat.

We joined a tour to arrive this tiny island (?) by a ~75 min sailing of the speedboat. Most people jumped into the water and followed the snorkel/diving tours. For those who did not want to swim, there was a glass-bottom boat that could show...More

This is not close to Cairns but it is a great place for snorkeling. It is about 2.5 hours on a boat to the Cay. The island is literally a pile of sand with birds on it, there is nothing there. They say bird sanctuary,...More

The answers above are right, we did see a few people who did not snorkle but there only option was to sit on the beach (small area) or wait on the boat. My opinion for you if you do not want scuba or snorkle is to find one... More

You would not want to pay for one that focuses (and includes snorkeling and a dive for a little extra) - and that is what we did and I agree with Claus - what a shame to bypass the opportunity!
