Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

Daytripped down from staying in Palm Cove. Great place to have a dip - my 1yo daughter loves the water and the big lagoon pool was definitely a hit. Being walking distance from parking, other transport options and foodie hotspots it's definitely worth stopping by and cooling off with a swim.

Lovely spot for relaxing after a busy day exploring the town. So refreshing and I never found it too busy, always somewhere to put your towel and belongings. Good BBQ facilities and a handy little cafe selling icecreams and drinks. A lovely afternoon well spent!!

A very well designed, safe swimming area for kids and adults at the busy end of the esplanade. There are places to eat in easy proximity.

Could do with a few more covered / shady areas and some upgraded changing and toilet facilities but an amazing free facility. Pool is great for all age groups, free barbecues, free wifi. Lifegaurds on duty till late. The Heart of Cairns for many visitors and locals. Oh and no alcohol allowed. The fun police will empty your 6 pack... More

We were staying at 181 The Esplanade so took the esplanade walk quite a few times. Walking into town was very pleasant through the park to town.

The lagoon is a great area always clean and tidy with good life guards. There is a lot of room to swim so even on a busy day you will be able to relax. Some times the water was a bit warmer, especially on hot summer days, but it is still a nice place to see.

We've loved visiting the lagoon. Great facilities and the lagoon caters to all ages with shallow parts for smaller kids to play safely. And it's free and in a great spot to just cross the road to watch the bats fly in, grab a bite to eat then visit the night markets.

It's a very beautiful and nice spot for family with young children. The water is very clean and the depth varies so that it could fit different age groups. My son enjoyed playing in here. A lovely place.
