Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

Clear salt water pool in the shape of Queensland and just as big. Excellent for swimming and the free Aqua Zumba is Not to Be Missed either as participant or observer. Gil and team provide an entertaining workout. Shallow end and sandy beach for kids. Life Guards always on duty when pool open - 7am to 9pm.

If there is no water on the ocean. And you don't want to be eaten by crocks. Definitely nice place. Clean. Heaps of public bbq. Toilets. Grass. Shade.

Nice walking area. Swimming seems mainly for kids/young teens. Fun distraction to watch from behind the "splash zone".

Cairns Esplanade is wonderful, full if free activities! The lagoon is the place to spend a sunny afternoon, refresh and hang out with friends. You can have a barbecue nearby! It's perfect! If you don't want to cool yourself: the night market with food court is just across the street and plenty of restaurants down the road!

Great location. In the middle of busy cairns. We've been a couple of times. Water is nice. Only bad thing is it is ALWAYS packed. But I guess it's a great thing too as there is always a crowd so goes to show how great it is.

Can't go wrong with the cairns lagoon and esplanade. Very clean and well maintained, good changing facilities, BBQs, music, street performers, what better way to escape the heat of Cairns on a beautiful day than to take a dip in the lagoon.

Very well maintained, great for a quick dip and manned by lifeguards during the day. The actual beach in the Cairns cbd is un-swimmable so this man made lagoon is your next best bet if you are unable to travel to another beach nearby.

This wasn't here last time I was in Cairns! What a great place considering in Paradise you cannot go in Ocean for the Crocs,Sharks 🦈 and stingers! Next time Ill bring kids they will have a ball! Everything else is a two minute walk away to cafes, shops, hotels and restaurants!
