Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Quirky stop to take a break and soak up the view. Great photo opportunity and a great spot to have a driving stop. Be careful as the stopping area isn’t that big.

Visiting The Gatz Balancing Rocks was a memorable experience. This funky and quirky place exudes a unique charm that's hard to find elsewhere. I found immense joy in adding my own little rock tower to the gallery of stone masterpieces, feeling a sense of connection to all those who had contributed before me. At first glance, one might think it's just a pile of rocks but the beauty is in the details and the collective effort behind each structure.

The breathtaking scenery, the beautiful stone beach acting as a peaceful respite between Cairns and Port Douglas, was the icing on the cake. I was thoroughly impressed by the balancing acts displayed, which made me appreciate the time and skill of the anonymous artists who've been hard at work here. All in all, a five-star experience, and I would highly recommend a stop at The Gatz Balancing Rocks if you're in the area.

A blot on the landscape! This eyesore and destructive practice has increased in size! Do people not realise the damage they are doing to the tidal ecosystem?

Wife stopped here with her friends and stacked a pile. Nice place to stretch the legs and breath the warm air

I write this review with a divided opinion.

I love the idea of the rock stacks and the unique experience to see so many rock stacks in the one area thinking of the joy that each person has had to do this with their loved ones, adding to the many stacks already there.

But on the same hand, I understand this isn't natural and can be disrupting to the ecosystem and animals that inhabit the area.

When we visited it was about 9:00 in the morning and there were rock stacks everywhere. It wasn't easy to find a rock on that beach that wasn't already in a stack. Yes we made our own stack and we respected everyone else's stack already set-up.

When we drove past that afternoon on our way back from our day trip, every single rock stack was knocked over which really upset our kids, they couldn't believe that people would destroy things people enjoyed creating but when we explained why they understood.

Building a rock stack isn't really any different to building a sand castle, but it's the extent of it. This part of the coast is lined with beach similar to this and the rock stacks are a tiny area overall but if it's affecting the ecosystem it shouldn't be done.

The access to the beach that the rock stacks is on (The Gatz Balancing Rocks) has limited parking and depends on how other vehicles are parked as to what room is there.

Everyone will have their own opinions on this, just about everywhere you travel now you'll see a rock stack and one or two are fine, it's when the whole landscape becomes one that it's an issue for the environment.

I won't be surprised that eventually there will be a sign in place restricting people from doing this. I'm just appreciative of the fact that we got to see it in it's full glory.

Great spot to stop with kids. Much better than your average roadside stop. About 14kms north of Clifton Beach. Kids loved checking out the rock stacks, building their own and then building sandcastles in the sand. Serene views at sunset.

You have to keep a sharp eye out for it as it is easily missed from the road. Very much worth stopping and marvelling at what someone has done.
