We spent over 4 hours at the aquarium and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We got there just after 9am (recommended) so we could catch all of the talks given by various staff members, all of which were without exception entertaining and informative. The support staff...More

Superb aquarium experience. We have visited a number around NZ and Australia, and this hands down had to be the best. With it being so new, it still feels really clean, tidy and looked after. The layout is well thought out and the flow and...More

The aquarium is an absolute joy. The displays are very imaginative and well-kept. The huge tank houses sharks, rays and all manner of smaller fish - an ever changing scene. A delight for the whole family.

We enjoyed this much more than the aquarium in Townsville because more opporutnities for kids to walk around and touch and learn here. Also the parents could read and learn a few things too! Only thing missing is a cafe suitable for young families for...More

A wonderful collection of mainly freshwater species. The exhibits are well laid out, with good information and photos of most of the creatures on display in each tank. It is the best collection of Australian freshwater fish I have seen. The coral reef exhibit is...More

Cairns aquarium may not be the largest, but definitely the most unique and interesting. Recommend going for the morning opening to beat the crowd.

Good afternoon. Im looking forward to bringing my family to your aquarium while we're on holiday in Cairns from Melbourne, but I've been seeing news stories down here about the high amount of aquatic deaths in your aquarium. Can you please tell me, are the articles I've read about the deaths of the Maori Rasse, Potato Cods, Leopold shark, countless tropical fish, rare lizards, pythons and of course Australias first captive Hammerhead sharks true or are they all still there alive and well? I just don't want the kids to be disappointed or have to explain about "fish heaven" let alone justify to the wife how an institute that claims to support the preservation of the reef and marine life can kill over $350,000 worth of fish and reptiles in less than 4 months. Thank you very much. Concerned Aquadad.
